Avatar n tn It is possible that acute abscess has been developing. It is best to get an appropriate evaluation and treatment done. If there was a root canal done in the above tooth? In few cases root canals can fail due to branching and convolutions of the tooth roots. See your dentist at the earliest. Treatment will be specific based on the cause. Best luck and regards!

Avatar n tn Hello, This persistent abscess that does not get cleared with antibiotics is called Parulis as this elevated nodule is actually an opening of fistulous tract from some chronic abscess either in association with tooth (periapical abscess) or gum abscess or could be sinus in your case. As I can not do physical exam hence can not say for sure about the origin of the abscess. It needs x-ray and second opinion of a dentist who can examine.
Avatar f tn Hi, lump in the gums above and adjacent to the teeth most commonly can be tooth abscess or fistula opening due to infected tooth. You may just check out any frank cavity or food imapaction area in related teeth to the swelling. In such case you may need antibiotics and root canal treatment of the affected tooth with the help of a dentist. Other possibilties could be pyogenic granuloma, fibroma, periodontal abscess etc. Check out with local dentist to confirm.
Avatar f tn 2 days ago, I had a dental abscess in the upper right side of my mouth, between the tooth and the gum, and it was slowly draining from a hole in my gum... So, I decided to try and squeeze some of the infection out myself and as I was in the process of doing so, the abscess busted and drained internally (into my cheek). My face started swelling immediately and in about 15 seconds, it had tripled in size!
Avatar m tn At the same time, I noticed the gum around my top left wisdom tooth started to swell. It hurt a bit, but not much. It kept swelling and I felt a bad taste coming from there, so on Wednesday I go see a dentist. I arrive at the office, get an x-ray, dentist looks at my tooth and says I have an abscess and it seemed to have been there for quite some time already. She proceeds do drain it, sends me home on antibiotics and ibuprofen, and tells me to come back on Friday to extract the tooth.
Avatar n tn They said I have Periodontal Disease, I am wondering if this tooth can be saved by the gum specialist. Is sugical gum treatment can save my tooth? Can I save my tooth for serveral more years? If I have to extract my tooth, since is the lower back tooth (last one) will it effect my facial structure? any side effect? Thanks.
Avatar f tn If a person presents with say gum disease, decay and defective restorations has no symptoms of pain, or abscesses etc and for whatever reason leaves a tooth untreated for say approx 6-7 months then suddenly develops an abscess with severe pain. Is it probable that during that period without the treatment caused it to become worse and then develop the abscess which required an extraction? When do teeth with cavities become unsaveable that require extraction.
Avatar m tn How much risk is there of the infection spreading in a dangerous way if this is some kind of chronic low level abscess? Should I push for emergency treatment or can it wait until I get to Hong Kong? Will the antibiotics help address any risk of the infection spreading? How is it possible that I have gone back so many times for exams and had them find nothing wrong?
Avatar n tn I was told by my dentist that I have an abcess above a tooth that I have already had a root canal done on 18years ago and that I have to see an endodontics for treatment. First I would like to know if they are going to do another root canal or if they're going to perform surgery through my gum to remove this ball of infection? And can only an Endodonitcs fix this problem or can a oral surgeon do this as well? If they go through my gum this would be surgry right?
Avatar n tn What happens to the gum abscess after the pus leaked out?

Avatar n tn help!! i had an abscess on a tooth that had already had root canal treatment went to the dentist he said i had the abscess after taking an x ray and said the tooth needed to be removed. without asking whether there was anyone to go home wiith me or if the rest of my day was free, he, under just normal injected into the mouth painkiller proceeded to pull the tooth i felt most of it and screamed i had previously asked can i have gas and air or something he said id be "fine" .
Avatar m tn If it turns out that it is a tooth responsible for the abscess, it needs to be taken out as as the abscess is completely gone. Don't wait or the abscess could come back worse.
Avatar n tn Thermal sensitivity and discomfortable biting are probably associated with occlusal interference. Occlusal adjustment can generally eliminate the symptoms. Gum abscess may result from periodontal or periapical infection. Seeing a periodontist to evaluate periodontal condition is advised.
Avatar f tn Let me know how you get on and hope that it is not an abscess, but just an inflamed gum from something you have eaten. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.
Avatar m tn What about a gum abscess that is being treated with antibiotics? My boyfriend has a gum abscess and he has been prescribed penicillin and topical antibiotics. He says it is getting better, but for some reason his cheek on the other side of his mouth got swollen (maybe unrelated from biting it) and he says the area of the abscess is still a little irritated even after being on antibiotics today.
Avatar f tn t be necessary if you had the root canal done but if you are awaiting to do treatment when you get back home, I would take the antibiotics and get it treated as soon as possible.
Avatar n tn Did they do any procedures to the gum themselves prior or during the crown treatment? There may be some excess cement that can be left on accident which cause an irritation in the area.
Avatar m tn My tooth seems to becoming loose and the area above the tooth in the gums has become inflammed possibly turning in to an abscess, no pain at the moment. Has the treatment failed or something, my dental surgeon said it will be extracted if it fails as there was a 50% chance of the tooth actually being saved (the other 50% chance that it would fail). Does it look like my tooth will be extracted?
Avatar f tn I have had an abscess tooth for over a year. I haven't gotten the recommended root canal due to lack of funds. Twice in the past year, my cheek became very swollen, I went to the dentist and got a prescription, which eliminated the infection but never got a follow-up root canal. Since then I developed a small swollen mass on the inside of my gum which was there for about two months, but haven't had any pain in the tooth since then.
