Avatar m tn What about a gum abscess that is being treated with antibiotics? My boyfriend has a gum abscess and he has been prescribed penicillin and topical antibiotics. He says it is getting better, but for some reason his cheek on the other side of his mouth got swollen (maybe unrelated from biting it) and he says the area of the abscess is still a little irritated even after being on antibiotics today.
Avatar n tn 2) if a person had lived through an abscess (such as they do in modern times) does the damage to the jaw bone repair itself, or is it a permenent fixture? 3) exactly how were these abscesses fatal? how does it truly manage to kill?
Avatar n tn I have had two crowns from different dentists that have resulted in abscesses - the first of which went into my bone and I had to have surgery. I told both dentists that the crowns did not feel as if they were seated correctly, but of course I was ignored. The dentists have just told me that these things "happen". I don't believe it. It is either incompetence on their part, or there is something wrong with my body.
Avatar f tn He told me he would not work on me again unless I took Valium first. He said He needs to cut open the gum and drill into my jaw bone to remove the teeth. I did not go back and that was a year ago. Now the half tooth is abscessed. My face is so swollen its causing pressure in my eye ear and nose. Ive been on cephalexin for a bit more then 24 hrs now but the swelling and pain has not subsided at all. So my question is, when can i expect relief???
Avatar f tn I have never had a tooth abscess until now. I called my dentist and they are trying to help me to keep cost down bc I have no insurance and xmas is right around corner so money is tight. I have a back molar that broke about 3 months ago ive been trying to save up for root canal but now I think I will need it pulled. The tooth stopped hurting and then I got the pus pocket under it that would flare up but then go down.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had a tooth out next to my front tooth about 6 years ago and it got an abscess after the gum healed and closed about 6 months later. I have a wound outside the gum and I feel the abscess when I press under my nose. I have been to a surgeon and the xray showed a dark spot, but when they cut the gum I felt it all and cried and cried. Due to having high blood pressure they didn't numb the area well at all, so I made them stop.
Avatar n tn i have a hard slightly painful lump in my upper gum under my cheek bone im not to sure how long its been there for but it is worrying me.
529224 tn?1400651819 These boils allow for the pus to escape your jaw bone and relieves any pressure buildup but if the gum boils stop forming and the pus is blocked off, it can spread to other parts of the jaw and can be life threatening.
Avatar f tn I have a lump on my upper gum for the last month. I had a crown removed three weeks ago. I've taken pencillian twice already. The pain and the lump is still there. When I press on it it hurts a lot. I cannot eat on that side. My Dentist took a couple of x-rays back then and gave me pencillian. Nothing has changed. Recently I notice a dark circle on the upper roof of that side. I touched it and it hurts. It has not grown in size..What to do next?
Avatar f tn I have mod-advanced periodontal disease and developed a PA abscess and cyst in 7 months which caused severe pain and swelling that required extraction. How did it come about? Is it from dental decay combined with periodontal disease? It was tooth 26 with over 7 mm gum pocket and 50% mobility.. Just wondering if I could have saved it earlier with maybe a root canal? Hope to hear from some expert.
Avatar f tn This past two weeks I decided to start eating on that side that I had to implant done and now there is a bump above the gum line and it's obviously sore and tender to push. Not that I want to push on it. I rinsed with Chlorohexidine this morning and I am hoping that will help. I should also add the fact that I smoke. But the doctor told me I had to quit during the surgery and to allow for the bone to take. I thought since this implant was done a while ago I would be able to smoke again.
Avatar f tn Having no idea what was wrong I went to the doctors and was put on amoxcillin (they weren't sure what was wrong as the abscess isn't visible, it is really high up under my lip and quite large). Some of my swelling has gone down since and the pain has completely stopped, although obviously the abscess still causes discomfort because of the pressure, does this mean my front tooth has died? It has changed in colour, it's now slightly greyish.
635268 tn?1222719503 The tooth had turned black and when i ate something hard once it just fell out like that. A couple of months later I think i formed an abscess because i had some swelling above the missing tooth and I started pressing on it and it hurt.. Next for some odd reason i decided to stick the tip of my tounge where my tooth is missing and I felt the worst pain in the world. The pain shot up from my mouth to my head, my eyes started to tear and my entire body went numb.
Avatar f tn I had a sinus lift done in November 2008 (9 months ago) to prepare for implants to be placed. Ever since the lift surgery, I have had a swelling on the gum tissue where the surgery took place. The swelling extends about 2-3 inches along the gum and a little on the cheek side. It hurts quite a bit. The pain extends to my eye socket and I have frequent nose bleeding on the opposite side.
Avatar n tn It is under the gum; feels like bone; and does not feel like it is growing. It is also somewhat smooth, as far as I can tell. It does hurt every once in a while, but not too bad. It doesn't seem like it is a big deal...but strange none the less....what do you think that this could be?
Avatar n tn It is possible that your teeth are sound and that you have an abscess originating from the gum/bone attachment rather than the tooth itself. Popping the pimple releases the pus and helps to drain the area and the antibiotics also help to keep the infection in check. I would recommend swishing with a warm salt rinse to help pull fluids from the swelling to help reduce it. The best course of action is to treat the actual infection though and to resolve it.
Avatar n tn Another more likely scenario is that the abscess will escape the jaw bone and spread to the soft tissue of the head which is extremely dangerous. It can spread down the neck and cause breathing problems or spread to the spaces near the brain. 2) I'm not familiar with your financials but you may want to contact your local dental society and see if there are any resources available for your situation.
Avatar m tn Hi.I am aware that my wisdom tooth is being retained in the gum after I took an X ray, but after months, that area of my gum smells very bad whenever I push it with my finger or by chewing food on it. It also smells in the gap between the gum and the next tooth. I hate this and wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions to reduce this smell.
Avatar n tn My tooth that has the abcsess is broken down to the gum, if that could be why. What would i need to get done to fix this and does anyone know about the price it would cost with no insurence? Also do dentists office's set up payment plans?
Avatar f tn The bump is fairly large (length-wise) and protrudes like a piece of bone growing horizontally out from the gum/tooth. I've never had anything like it in my life and I am very concerned! I have seen some references to exstoses (sp?) and gum boils but I'm not sure which this is.
Avatar m tn I am 27 weeks pregnant and have become obsessed with overexagerating my health (I have talked myself into this being jaw bone cancer..........). My OB wants me to wait, if I can, to get all of this done after my baby is born in April. Do you think this is something I should wait on or get checked with xrays, etc? Any advise is greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn If its growing that fast, it may not be bone but an abscess or cellulitis in which there's an infection and its spreading into the gum/cheek area and is so swollen it feels hard. Best to get it checked as soon as possible.
Avatar m tn Just discovered I have both of these a couple months ago after noticing a lump in my gum. The cyst has been eating away at my jaw and has perforated it, I've had no pain, but will be getting surgery soon. My question is what are the chances of the tooth infection contributing to my chronic fatigue? I have found a few only posts stating, infections can make you feel lousy, fatigued etc. But no real solid information or testimonials.

Avatar f tn I had an abcess in my gum deep by the bone line just under my nose on (my left) canine tooth. It was deep to where it took 4 days to come to a head on the outer gum area. This swelled immensely causing my lip to bulge, left eye swelling, cheek was massive. It disappeared after2 weeks of amoxicillin ibuprofen and naproxen. Everything was fine for a few weeks now i have severe pain under my nose and in my cheek bone area. When i press down it hurts worse.
Avatar n tn Fast forward to 2 nights ago I noticed a dull throbbing ache not on the tooth itself but on the gum all the way up near where the inner cheek meets the gumline. I had experienced pain with this tooth in recent past (sensitivity to hot and cold) but this pain was in a completely different location. Yesterday morning my cheek was swollen.
704329 tn?1518526698 My abscess was located in the root of the tooth, with no pocket. My face still hurts alot too. My cheek bone on the left side a slightly swollen and it does hurt. The tooth itself seems to be the only thing better...it's not as sensitive and isn't throbbing as hard. I'm afraid that this thing is still brewing ...possibly spreading.... I have a heart problem, so I'm worrying about it spreading to my heart...and or brain. Any thoughts? Thanks!
Avatar f tn This past July, I developed what appeared to be a gum infection. My gum on the right lower side in the back swelled bad. It made my jaw bone hurt. I was running fevers and felt sick. I was also having ear pain and felt like I had fluid behind my ear. The doctor said he thought I had an abscessed tooth and an ear infection, and put me on antibiotics. He told me to see a dentist.
Avatar f tn (That's especially true if you had the head thing that pushes your teeth back with rubber bands btw). That moving of bone underneath gum and face and maxilla bone and mandible bone made some hollow spots. Infection followed. Bad stuff. Now if your jaw joints hurt and the spaces goimg STRAIGHT BACK between your teeth to that muscle between top and bottom molars hurts thats probably the muscle which mouth muscles are much more innervated and can hurt a lot. And not just going straight back.
