Common Questions and Answers about Abscess gum bone

abscess

Avatar m tn What about a gum abscess that is being treated with antibiotics? My boyfriend has a gum abscess and he has been prescribed penicillin and topical antibiotics. He says it is getting better, but for some reason his cheek on the other side of his mouth got swollen (maybe unrelated from biting it) and he says the area of the abscess is still a little irritated even after being on antibiotics today.
Avatar m tn To whom it may concern, I have a growth in my mouth on the inner side of lower right gum wall. if i look at it looks like a whitehead inside my mouth. it doesn't hurt when I hit it. However the lower gland on the right hand side of my face is slightly swelled up when i feel it. could someone please let me know what it may be? I have been chewing alot of gum lately and i do smoke at the same time... thankyou. Regards.
Avatar m tn Just throbbing pain at different times. A CT Scan show a hole up by my jaw bone. When the did the surgery they found an abscess (cavity). I had them pull the molar, and they cleaned out the abscess. It is now March and my gum is still sore. Is this normal? I did have quite a few stitches in my mouth. Just wasn't sure if it should still be sore. I should say it is only sore when I touch up there.
529224 tn?1400648219 These boils allow for the pus to escape your jaw bone and relieves any pressure buildup but if the gum boils stop forming and the pus is blocked off, it can spread to other parts of the jaw and can be life threatening.
Avatar m tn I also find it weird how I suddenly have a fractured bone causing an abscess. She told me it could be an old fracture and that only now the infection started to show itself, but still... And then I'm taking glucocorticoids, which supress the immune system, when there's an infection beginning to spread. It's been almost two days since the extraction. I still feel unwell, headaches, pain inside the head all the way to the neck.
Avatar f tn He told me he would not work on me again unless I took Valium first. He said He needs to cut open the gum and drill into my jaw bone to remove the teeth. I did not go back and that was a year ago. Now the half tooth is abscessed. My face is so swollen its causing pressure in my eye ear and nose. Ive been on cephalexin for a bit more then 24 hrs now but the swelling and pain has not subsided at all. So my question is, when can i expect relief???
Avatar m tn s causing the bone loss and to remove the broken tooth which could be a potential abscess site. The continued bone loss is worrisome and can accelerate and be more difficult to keep under control the longer its neglected.
Avatar n tn a sinus tact is like a "tunnel" through the bone and through or around the gum tissue from the abcess to the outside (in the mouth somewhere like the palate for upper teeth or the soft tissue vestibule by the roots of the teeth). it's basically a tract through which the abcess can drain. teeth with tracts usually have been abcessed for quite some time.
Avatar n tn Other than this he could also be having a gum infection, an infection of the skin of face, a boil or abscess or infection of the jaw bone. It is difficult to diagnose this on net. Please consult his pediatrician and his dentist as soon as possible (read immediately!). Meanwhile please give him acetaminophen to make the pain tolerable. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have a hard bump above my top right back tooth on gum. My dentist said it wasn't bone/tooth it is gum/soft tissue issue. No pain, abscess, swelling or inflammation. He wants me to see a periodontist, I will. But, I was wondering, ahead of appointment ,what other possibilities than a cancerous tumor? The color isn't any different from the rest of my gums. It is smooth. Can it be just excess hard fibrous tissue growth or something less frightening than cancer? Thank you.
Avatar f tn Overnight I had a hard bump appear on my lower left gum. It is a little sore, like something really irritated my gum. The bump is fairly large (length-wise) and protrudes like a piece of bone growing horizontally out from the gum/tooth. I've never had anything like it in my life and I am very concerned! I have seen some references to exstoses (sp?) and gum boils but I'm not sure which this is.
Avatar f tn I have mod-advanced periodontal disease and developed a PA abscess and cyst in 7 months which caused severe pain and swelling that required extraction. How did it come about? Is it from dental decay combined with periodontal disease? It was tooth 26 with over 7 mm gum pocket and 50% mobility.. Just wondering if I could have saved it earlier with maybe a root canal? Hope to hear from some expert.
Avatar n tn An old root canal had developed an abscess. The tooth was very difficult to extract and the dentist had to focibly rock the tooth back and forth to get it loose enough to remove. The tooth came out fully in tact. However, I now have a very painful, sharp bony protrusion on the outside of the gum area of the extraction. Is this some kind of broken or crushed socket?
Avatar n tn i have a hard slightly painful lump in my upper gum under my cheek bone im not to sure how long its been there for but it is worrying me.
Avatar m tn When you have tooth decay or gum disease, you can get infection deeply within the tooth or gum. This infection is an abscessed tooth and can be very painful. Don't neglect as soon as possible you can go to your dentist.
Avatar f tn I have a lump on my upper gum for the last month. I had a crown removed three weeks ago. I've taken pencillian twice already. The pain and the lump is still there. When I press on it it hurts a lot. I cannot eat on that side. My Dentist took a couple of x-rays back then and gave me pencillian. Nothing has changed. Recently I notice a dark circle on the upper roof of that side. I touched it and it hurts. It has not grown in size..What to do next?
Avatar f tn The root canal was a week ago but the lump from the abscess is still on my gum. Is this normal? I was not put on antibiotics after the root canal but I took the last 2 amox. From the prescrip I had been given the week before.
Avatar n tn What happens to the gum abscess after the pus leaked out?
Avatar m tn I have been on clindamycin 150mg 2 every 8 hours for 4 days with a gum abscess. Its still hasnt come to a head yet, and very painful , I can feel a heart beat in it.Was wondering how long will it last. And is there any way to make it come to head. Had mini dental implants put in 3 years ago with 4 up top ,, and the gum abscess is right on top of it .
Avatar f tn My symptoms began about 2 years ago with back to back sinus infections. I consulted an ENT who spent less than 20 minutes w/ me & suggested a CT scan which showed minimal mucus lining in my maxillary sinus cavities. At that time I couldn't be assured it would help & ultimately decided not to go through with the procedure. A month or so later I had severe pain in my left cheek/jaw & then my gum began to swell substantially.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had a tooth out next to my front tooth about 6 years ago and it got an abscess after the gum healed and closed about 6 months later. I have a wound outside the gum and I feel the abscess when I press under my nose. I have been to a surgeon and the xray showed a dark spot, but when they cut the gum I felt it all and cried and cried. Due to having high blood pressure they didn't numb the area well at all, so I made them stop.
Avatar n tn Thermal sensitivity and discomfortable biting are probably associated with occlusal interference. Occlusal adjustment can generally eliminate the symptoms. Gum abscess may result from periodontal or periapical infection. Seeing a periodontist to evaluate periodontal condition is advised.
Avatar m tn Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I would recommend seeing a dentist and getting treatment started.
Avatar n tn Last Friday he left work in severe pain, swollen mouth, what he thought was a piece of tooth or root poking through his gum and a sore on the bottom of his tongue from what he thought caused by the abrasion from the 'root'. He went to the Dentist on Monday & they indicated that he had a abscess & that it was part of his jaw bone, not a root or piece of tooth, exposed. They referred him back to the Periodontist today.
Avatar f tn Your descriptions suggest periapical abscess associated with pulpal necrosis.Seeing an endodontist is advised.
