Common Questions and Answers about Abscess formation spleen

abscess

Avatar m tn Hi there, The common sites for abscess formation are groin s and armpits. Abscesses are caused by minor breaks and punctures of the skin, obstruction of sweat glands and oil glands, and inflammation of hair follicles. These abscesses contain dead cells, bacteria, and other debris, which causes inflammation and pain. The common bacteria are staphylococci but sometimes tuberculosis can also lead to abscess formation.
Avatar f tn Pain in the upper left abdomen and chest area can be due to stomach issues, spleen issues, due to an abscess below the left diaphragm, a hematoma (localized collection of blood), an abscess, or a muscle pull (as it happened while playing). Ultrasound would have ruled out spleen problems and an abscess below the left diaphragm. A CT scan would be more diagnostic. The chances of it being a muscle pull are very high. It could also be an abscess or infection in the skin or muscle layer.

Avatar f tn This may be brought about by a break in the skin/areola, producing a superimposed infection and thus abscess formation. If there is an abscess, incision and drainage must be done and the specimen is sent to the pathologist for evaluation. Good luck.
Avatar f tn So I watched a video on youtube about preauricular sinus infection and I learned that it could lead to the formation of abscess. When I was young, I didn't know what the hole was and I often got very irritated with it when it had secretions. I played with it so much that one day I realized a second hole was formed near the "crus of helix" of my right ear couple cm below the first one and that it also extends deep into my ear like the first hole above.
Avatar n tn Sounds like it is your lymph node or your spleen that you are feeling. Localized lymph node swelling generally means some type of infection is present. If it is tender or does not go down in next few days, you should go see a doctor. If you are not having any other symptoms, the doc may want to do an MRI on it. Hope you feel better.
Avatar f tn Bleeding from the breast can be because of infection, abscess formation or cancer. Microscopic examination of the discharge to look for blood cells and any abnormal cells and mammography will help make the diagnosis. Consult your Doctor. Hope this helps.

Raise head end of bed.
Avatar n tn Pain in the upper left abdomen and chest area can be due to stomach issues (GERD or hiatal hernia), spleen issues, due to an abscess below the left diaphragm, a hematoma (localized collection of blood), an abscess, or a muscle pull. The best thing would be to consult a general practitioner or PCP and try and assess what is the cause of your problem. Then proper referral for concerned specialist can take things further and get you proper treatment. Hope this helps. Take care!
1758889 tn?1312878413 Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks, caffeine, and spicy food. Enlarged spleen, spleen abscess can also be the cause, but less likely due to timing of your pain. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!

Avatar f tn Hi leelariah, If left untreated, the external opening may temporarily close with a resultant recurrent abscess formation or formation of a more complex fistula. These complex fistulas often traverse deep to the external sphincter making operative repair more hazardous. Additionally, long-standing fistulas have a low but real risk of malignant transformation. And blood in stools is definitely abnormal.
Avatar m tn If you feel them then u need to check ur teeth for abscess formation, periodontal pockets or wisdom tooth infection.
Avatar f tn An ultrasound scan is not sensitive to detect infection, though it may be able to detect severe cases with abscess formation or effusion. The scan is likely to have been done by a technician with limited knowledge to read images possibly resulting in the erroneous conversation. The final report is formed after review by a radiologist and if it reports normal, the scan in most probability is likely to be normal. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar m tn Is the lump red, sore, inflamed? If so it is possible it's an abscess. They are very painful and need draining and antiseptic, and possibly a course of Amoxycillin. But or course it could be something else. Go get this lump checked. If it isn't an abscess, I would advise a needle biopsy. And if the results of that are 'inconclusive', then follow up with an ultrasound scan or whatever the vet suggests. My own dog developed a sudden lump near her tail.
Avatar n tn There are no reports of cyst formation as a result of spinal steroid injection. There are reports which mention abscess formation, but it would have more symptoms than just pain. Anyways, it will be useful to rule out an abscess. Repeated needle injury and infection can lead to an abscess. An abscess is a localized collection of infected material, secretions and is usually enclosed in a closed "cyst-like" space. There are chances that the cyst may be present earlier.
Avatar f tn Hello, Any damaged or decayed tooth or molar should be treated as soon as possible. It can act as a focus of infection, us formation and abscess formation. It is suggested to see a dentist and get examined. It may not be possible to determine the exact cause without a complete dental examination. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Good luck and take care!
Avatar f tn The common causes could be bacterial like tuberculosis, pyogenic pneumonias, viral, fungal infections. Few other possibilities are abscess formation, necrotizing granulomas, or eosinophilia etc.It is important to discuss these test results with your pulmonologist since he knows your medical history best. Only after a detailed clinical evaluation the cause can be determined. Hope it really helps. Do keep us posted. Take care and regards!
Avatar m tn i was opend up from sternum to pelvis so they could stop bleeding, remove ruptured spleen etc. then it was reopened by orthopedics to take out the packing and fix all the other bits and bones that were smashed in accident.. i now have a boney formation directly under the scar that an ultrasound wont penitrate but shows up clearly on x-ray (it looks like a seahorse) it's about 5.5 cm long and 3cm round and is at the base of my sternum but not attatched to anything.
Avatar f tn Pain in the upper left abdomen and chest area can be due to stomach issues (GERD or hiatal hernia), spleen issues, due to an abscess below the left diaphragm, a hematoma (localized collection of blood), an abscess, or a muscle pull. Since her ESR and TLC is high, chance of infection is there. An ultrasound or CT scan of abdomen is definitely required. Aortic aneurysm too can present this way. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please get a doctor to examine her.
Avatar n tn Pain in the left chest area can be due to stomach issues (GERD or hiatal hernia), spleen issues, due to an abscess below the left diaphragm, a hematoma (localized collection of blood), an abscess, or a muscle pull. Pain under left ribs is often due to acidity with gastric reflux or hiatal hernia. Take a late night snack. Raise head end of bed. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food.
Avatar f tn Patients with concurrent immunosupressive co-morbidities (diabetes, cancer, chronic steroid therapy) are at higher risk for these types of complications. With your husband having abscess formation, bacteremia, and now what sounds like a sternal wound infection, I would have an infectious disease specialist involved who might recommend a long-course of antibiotics. Your previous surgeon should also be involved given there could be potential surgical needs.
