Avatar f tn An ultrasound scan is not sensitive to detect infection, though it may be able to detect severe cases with abscess formation or effusion. The scan is likely to have been done by a technician with limited knowledge to read images possibly resulting in the erroneous conversation. The final report is formed after review by a radiologist and if it reports normal, the scan in most probability is likely to be normal. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar n tn 2 weeks after the appendectomy, I was re-admitted for an abscess in my lower abdomen, about the size of a grapefruit, it was drained successfully (5 more days hospitalization), and I believe it hasn't come back - the hospital did a CBC blood count test a week after I was discharged and it turned out normal. I don't "feel" the pressing abscess anymore. One problem that hasn't really gone away is the dull tenderness and heaviness I have in my mid abdomen.

Avatar n tn That equates to a pack a day for 50 years, two packs a day for 25 years, etc. His turned out to be a lung abscess. He had no symptoms, just a spot on an xray. Back then there were no CT or MRI scans available. They ended up doing a needle biopsy through his chest wall. He recently had a scare where, after he had a pretty nasty cold, he was coughing up blood. Not a lot, just some bloody mucus when he really coughed hard. He and I were both worried, of course.

211940 tn?1267884866 In October, 2007, I developed an extremely sore throat, accompanied by an abscess on my tonsil. At the same time, I found that I could not turn my head side-to-side, nor lift my arms forward, sideways, etc. The Sports Medicine doctor took x-rays, which turned out so poorly, he could not determine whether or not I had a hole in my rotator cuff. I was sent to rehab., whereupon I was told that the tissue in my upper arms was filled with knots, and that my shoulder joints were not frozen.
