Avatar n tn You need to run a test for moniliasis to rule this out. It could also be due to caries in tooth, abscess in gums, pyorrhea, abscess in cheek, or infection of internal ear. It could also be due to osteomyelitis of the jaw bone or due to involvement of temporomandibular joint. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. You would need to consult a dentist and an ENT specialist for this. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn Hi there, The common sites for abscess formation are groin s and armpits. Abscesses are caused by minor breaks and punctures of the skin, obstruction of sweat glands and oil glands, and inflammation of hair follicles. These abscesses contain dead cells, bacteria, and other debris, which causes inflammation and pain. The common bacteria are staphylococci but sometimes tuberculosis can also lead to abscess formation.

Avatar f tn So I watched a video on youtube about preauricular sinus infection and I learned that it could lead to the formation of abscess. When I was young, I didn't know what the hole was and I often got very irritated with it when it had secretions. I played with it so much that one day I realized a second hole was formed near the "crus of helix" of my right ear couple cm below the first one and that it also extends deep into my ear like the first hole above.

Avatar m tn Hi, I posted a few weeks ago. I'm 35 yrs old, 4 years ago I had my upper right first molar re-filled after the filling broke, and ever since then (on and off) I've had severe pain issues spreading to my right maxillary sinus and jaw, and sometimes down the front of my neck. Right now the area just above and behind the tooth in question is very painful to the touch, and I have pain spreading. I plan to go to a university emergency clinic as soon as I can.
Avatar f tn Hi leelariah, If left untreated, the external opening may temporarily close with a resultant recurrent abscess formation or formation of a more complex fistula. These complex fistulas often traverse deep to the external sphincter making operative repair more hazardous. Additionally, long-standing fistulas have a low but real risk of malignant transformation. And blood in stools is definitely abnormal.

Anyways, it will be useful to rule out an abscess. Repeated needle injury and infection can lead to an abscess. An abscess is a localized collection of infected material, secretions and is usually enclosed in a closed "cyst-like" space. There are chances that the cyst may be present earlier.

This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Good luck and take care!

Avatar f tn Patients with concurrent immunosupressive co-morbidities (diabetes, cancer, chronic steroid therapy) are at higher risk for these types of complications. Your previous surgeon should also be involved given there could be potential surgical needs.
