Avatar m tn TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THINGS... abscess: An abscess is a localized collection of pus that generally develops in response to infection. An abscess is typically painful, and it appears as a swollen area that is warm to the touch. The skin surrounding an abscess typically appears pink or red. Abscesses can develop in many parts of the body, but they usually involve the skin surface.

Avatar n tn When I was pregnant with my son in 2007 I noticed a lump on the side of my neck (its right under my jaw line and isn't noticable by sight). I asked my OB about it and she said it was perfecty normal during pregnancy and didn't even check it out. Well I still have the lump and my son is now 19 months old. It doesn't seem to be getting bigger and isn't painful.

Sebaceous cyst is a closed sac that fills with a fatty white, semi-solid material called sebum produced by sebaceous glands of the epidermis. It is usually painless but can become painful if infected. Then antibiotics are needed.
Avatar m tn Yes it needsa spiration but before that i would want that we do a MRI cervical spine or neck especially to look for the underlkying spine as some times even TB spine can lead to cold abscess formation deep to the sternocleidomastoid. Aspiration and its laboratory examination will also give us important clues to the diagnosis.
Avatar n tn Right ear pain Right ear fullness/ringing Pain behind right eye spot headaches on right side grinding teeth at night stiff neck - going into my shoulders I had an MRI/MRA back in Oct and all it showed was chronic sinusitis which I am being treated for by my ENT however he knows the pain is not coming from my ear. I am worried. Could this be an aneursym? I know a tumor or something like that would have showed on MRI. I've heard horror stories about aneurysms in carotid arteries and next to ear.
Avatar f tn Hello, Any damaged or decayed tooth or molar should be treated as soon as possible. It can act as a focus of infection, us formation and abscess formation. It is suggested to see a dentist and get examined. It may not be possible to determine the exact cause without a complete dental examination. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Good luck and take care!
Avatar n tn Hello All, I suddenly got a painfull swollen gland / lymph node under my jaw bone / neck area on only one side. The gland is swollen enough that you can almost notice a difference between each side of my neck. This started last night out of nowhere. The only other symptoms I have is a slightly sore and runny nose but I just got over a sinus infection. Otherwise I feel fine. Why is it only on one side and what could it be?
Avatar f tn I am now 48 and over the years have suffered chronic fatigue and permanent nubness in right hand and foot. I have had a recent MRI scan of my brain and neck that shows a 4th legion in the brain and since my last scan a year ago a syrinx in my spine between 5th and 6th disc due to a protruding disc that has got worse.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was wondering what could cause lumps on your neck. I have had a lump on my neck that originally I thought was just a pimple not fully grown yet but it is still there after more then a week, it is painful when I move my neck around or touch it or lay on it but it doesn't seem to move. Also, as of today I've noticed a second lump on the same side of my neck but this one is just starting and it's just behind my left earlobe so you can't see it if you look at me.
Avatar n tn Three distinct clinical stages have been defined for the condition. Stage 1 – solitary or multiple, isolated abscess formation without scarring or sinus tracts Stage 2 – recurrent abscesses, single or multiple widely separated lesions, with sinus tract formation Stage 3 – diffuse or broad involvement, with multiple interconnected sinus tracts and abscesses. Disease may spread to involve less commonly associated sites including the nape of the neck, waistband and inner thighs.
Avatar m tn It could also become infected leading to an abscess formation. Sometimes even after it has passed down the GI tract, the sensation in the throat can persist. As you do not have any symptoms now, its best to wait and watch. And good luck. Regards.
6358958 tn?1380605654 If your neck MRI is clear then the pain could be referred to the neck due to spinal problems of the upper back, or it could be due to tight neck muscles, or due to stress and anxiety or due to clots in the carotid artery. Hence you can get a MRI of the upper back spine and a dopplar study of the carotids. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.

578743 tn?1218557817 Nodes can have necrotic areas as a result of several factors such as outgrowing of blood supply or damage by bacteria. Abscess formation usually develops from this necrotic areas of nodes (or any other tissues for that matter). I believe that the biopsy result would give us all the answers we need. From her blood picture, it really seemed that she has had a serious bacterial infection.

Avatar n tn There may be an infective focus, and probably abscess formation. A fracture would have been a lot more unbearable. I would suggest you consult your dental surgeon soon. You will probably need to get an X ray of the paranasal sinuses.
Avatar m tn I'm 35 yrs old, 4 years ago I had my upper right first molar re-filled after the filling broke, and ever since then (on and off) I've had severe pain issues spreading to my right maxillary sinus and jaw, and sometimes down the front of my neck. Right now the area just above and behind the tooth in question is very painful to the touch, and I have pain spreading. I plan to go to a university emergency clinic as soon as I can.
Avatar f tn Now lips and chin number. On 2 antiobiotics since original opening of abscess--Flagyl and Clindomycin. Area of abscess better but pain in face and numbers lingers on. Have felt very sick. WBC was normal but this was after many days on antibiotic. Sed rate high. Went to dentist first who thought it was salivary gland infection-def not a tooth. Went to ENT and she said not salivary gland. They could see infected area.
Avatar f tn A doctor examined me, noted severe infection/abscess, I had slightly elevated white blood cell count at this point, and she put me on cefdinir for 30 days. This helped diminish lump, but infection still spread, jaw became increasingly sore, and fever/malaise worsened into flu-like feeling but I had no respiratory symptoms.
Avatar f tn Also, I have constant pain surrounding a swollen lymph node in the back of my neck, and all along that side of my neck, my shoulder, and the base of my skull - so I apply the clay there too. I haven't tried putting the bentonite into an open breast wound, but once the abscess healed over, I started using it there too, and now on the current abscess, since it hasn't broken through the skin yet, I put it over the top of that too. I think it does draw out impurities.
Avatar n tn i have soft bumps on my face and neck. I squeeze them and water squirts out. They fill up again almost immediately. I have to squeze them many times before they stop filling up again and then they scab over and sometime when the scab falls off they are still there and I have to go through the same process. They are really an eyesore and this is really getting monotonoeus.
Avatar n tn I had a MRI (Brain) and would like to know if i am ok and free from worry :( (Findings) The brain parenchyma demomstrares a normal position of the midline structures. The ventricles, cisterns, and sulci are normal in size and configuration for the patients age. There are a very few minimal nonspecific flair hyperintense foci scattered within the bilateral subcortical cerebral white matter. No restricted diffusion is present to suggest an acute infarction. The gray-white interface is preserved.
211940 tn?1267884866 After two visits to my family doctor, the visit to the Sports Medicine doctor, three trips for rehabilitation, one visit to the emergency room where a swab test was done, two visits to two different ENT doctors, two different antibiotic regimes, one CAT neck scan and the abscess being opened, I could again speak, move my head in better fashion, and had increased motion in my arms.
Avatar m tn It’s a tiny risk, greater if you are older, overweight, obese, or have reduced blood flow in your neck arteries, but it’s a risk you must assume if you want get rid of an otherwise untreatable sinus infection. There is a possibility that the infection could go into your ear, which happened to me once, but I found a way to avoid it. You could also accidentally rub infected snot into your eye and get an eye infection, if you are careless.
Avatar f tn Ok This is gross. I've had an abscess on my gum for at least 6 months now, and can't afford to go get it taken care of. So every few days I do a little self surgery, with an exacto blade to relieve the pressure. Its disgusting but cool at the same time, like popping the most giant zit. So gross, so gross. Hiding my head now.
Avatar n tn I have pins and plates in my neck, nothing to T7 and I have been fused 2 above and 2 below L2. As of today, the pain is above and below my rod placement. I am consulting my neurosurgeon and we contemplating the removal of the hardware. He is consulting one of his colleagues. I am very interested in how you do with this procedure.
