Avatar n tn My mom had her gallbladder removed about a month ago. Supposedly all went well, but then two weeks later she started feeling nauseous and began vomiting. So she went to the ER and an abscess was found and drained and it turns out she has a bile leak. They attempted to place a stent to help with the drainage, but the doctor wasn't able to do so due to my mom's anatomy. So now my mom has a drainage pouch attached and we are waiting for the bile leak to close.
Avatar n tn It's very possible it would resolve on its own without drainage; but if she had pain, fever, tenderness, etc, felt to be related to the gallbladder, then drainage is to be considered. Many people get gallbladder attacks and get over them without intervention. When it's in the context of other illness, and appears to be without stones, then treating "medically" without intervention is sometimes a good idea, with the idea that it may or may not need removal in the future.

Avatar n tn My name is Tony Harris. I have recently had my gal bladder removed by laparoscopic surgery. I came home only two days after the surgery and was feeling good. About a week later, I began to feel excruciating pain in my shoulders and abdomen. Late in the evening, the pain was unbearable and I was taken to the ER by ambulance. There they diagnosed me with an abscess 13 by 6 inches that had formed from a small cut on my liver.
579258 tn?1250652943 Please excuse my graphic description .. but the upper abscess had purulent drainage (pus) that rolled out of it and completely saturated a 4 x 4 piece of gauze. Now, just to be clear, I am able to handle a great deal of pain. Having lived and worked with migraines all my life, having given birth and had gallbladder attacks and surgery, I can take a lot. Even at the height of this abscess, the highest pain level was felt to be a 6. Last night upon arrival, my pain scale was a 7.
Avatar n tn the primary goal of a seton is to keep the tract open to allow drainage and keep another abscess from forming while the track heals closed. they can be used to cut thru the fistula, but sometimes that can create kind of a dip in the spincter that might mean ongoing leaking. I know that Remicade (infliximab) is used in CDers to close fistulas and works very well for some people (closes them within days). I think they are also having pretty good results with tacrolimus cream on fistulas, too.
Avatar n tn I recently had a non-laparoscopic appendectomy (not ruptured), in which the surgeon also found some inflammation of the colon about 2" above the appendix. This was also consistent with the pre-op pain being a bit higher than is traditional.
Avatar n tn Ok I had my gallbladder out about 10 years ago, I have had diarreah since some days worse than other but always soft. I have noticed a bump near my anus, sometimes burns, and has some drainage. I have never had blood or anything like that and it comes and goes, if I have alot of REALLY loose stools it gets irritated. Other than that I never really know it is there. I am thinking it may be an abscess but of course anal cancer is always on my mind. What do you think ?

Avatar n tn Treatment is usually cold compresses, over the counter anti-inflammatory analgesics(pain killers) like acetaminophen or ibuprofen, antibiotics if cause of infection is suspected to be a bacteria and surgical drainage if there is any abscess formation.

Avatar f tn I had another minor surgery for a stitch abscess (some of my stitches did not dissolve). I am doing much better as time goes on (update below). You mentioned your surgery is scheduled for May, when in May are you looking at for the surgery? Yes, I have been given the Entereg. I was given it for my bowel resection and for the colectomy. I was given it right before the surgeries (YES!!! I got a small drink of water with it :-) ).
Avatar n tn if you are having any discharge (drainage) with a foul odor, with green, yellow, thich drainage or any coloration you have an INFECTION.go to the doctor! if this infection gets into any open area on your skin, you will get very sick, it will get into your blood!!!!! Second of all, you are having any pain moving, on your abdomen, GO TO THE DOCTOR, if you are having sharp pains, GO TO THE DOCTOR. note what you were doing, eating, what postion made the pain stop.
Avatar f tn Some years ago I had Sepsis three times within a six week period. I knew the source. I had a tube inserted into my kidney for drainage following a severed ureter from a MVA. I know how very ill Sepsis can make you and the energy that it drains from you system. The third time I was DX and the hospital called me to return for treatment I cried with my head on my husband's shoulder and said, Please don't take me back to the hospital, just let me die here... I can't take this anymore.
Avatar n tn Even now several years later I still get phantum pains as if the left testicle was still there. Most recently in September 2009 I had a abscess over top of my right hernia scar. Currently, I'm still experience pain around the hernia scar as well as in the right testical at times. Left side gives me problems on and off. I also have a neurological condition as well as a neurogenic bladder. For the neurvous sytem nerve pain I have been on Lyrica, but currently am back on Amitriptyline.
211940 tn?1267884866 In October, 2007, I developed an extremely sore throat, accompanied by an abscess on my tonsil. At the same time, I found that I could not turn my head side-to-side, nor lift my arms forward, sideways, etc. The Sports Medicine doctor took x-rays, which turned out so poorly, he could not determine whether or not I had a hole in my rotator cuff. I was sent to rehab., whereupon I was told that the tissue in my upper arms was filled with knots, and that my shoulder joints were not frozen.
