Common Questions and Answers about Abscess drainage done

abscess

Avatar f tn Hi, The abscess in your breast should be lanced and drained. But if your infection keeps coming back after incision and drainage, a wide excision of the infected area may help. Has your doctor made a culture of the infecting organism? If not, then it should be done so that a proper antibiotic treatment can be focused on the offending organism. It is also possible that your infection keeps coming back because you have some other illness which could affect your immune system, such as diabetes.
Avatar m tn While I was on interferon therapy and my resistance was low, I developed an abscess on my buttock that was drained and healed. For several months now I have had pain that feels deeper in the tissue, possibly in the ischeum. It has never come to a point and there is no drainage that I can detect. I cannot see any external signs of swelling or redness. Have not been feverish recently. Could this be an ischiorectal abscess or possibly pudental nerve pain?
Avatar f tn I had / had a growth on my lower liabia major went to the emergency room and was diagnosed with a liabial abscess. The doctor did an incision on the abscess for drainage said very little puss came out and did not enter anything to help it drain. Now 5 days later i am still in excrutiating pain, the swelling does not seem to have decreased, and my vaginal are feels dry and irritated. How long should it take for the swelling to go down? Is the symptomsof dryness, normal?
Avatar f tn Please help anyone? 7 wks ago i got an abscess incision and drainage(jus next 2 anus) after being admitted to hospital it literally accured over a 3 day period with antibiotics having no effect, the insision was so small it made the packing of cavity the most painfull ordeal i have ever experienced..
Avatar m tn So now I am walking around with tubing in my small intestine after 4 weeks they want to remove it. I don't know how this will be done or what checks will be done to make sure hole closes. Please any opinions or comments would be appreciated. I am scared. It was even mentioned to remove it in Doctors office!
Avatar n tn The hole is a drainage hole for the infected material (blood, pus) that collects in a sort of pocket. The water was cloudy most likely because there is at least one more drainage hole on the inside of your cat's mouth that the stuff has been leaking out of. These kind of abcesses are usually started by a minor, one time injury like a puncture or scratch. Since you are only seeing blood when you clean it, it has already drained.
Avatar n tn I have yet to see any improvement from taking the antibiotics, so I went to the ER yesterday where they attempted to do and Incision and Drainage procedure. Some of the abscess was soft, but a large part of it in the middle was still hard... ??? With making an incision, the doctor was able to squeeze a good portion of the abscess out... but there is still a fairly large sized lump there. There has been no drainage coming from the incision since she did this.
Avatar m tn The fact that the abscess has hardened and draining it was not possible,I presume your Surgeon wants to run more tests probably to evaluate the extent of this abscess or because he thinks that it could be something other than an abscess, such as scar tissue,a fibroadenoma, fat necrosis or other growth. I think your Surgeon is doing the right thing to further investigate this lump, before considering surgery.
1657910 tn?1302375661 Hi Tiffany A FNA is when they put a needle in the abscess and drain out all the fluid. It's done with an ultrasound at the breast center. My doctor ordered cultures of the fluid to see what grows. Nothing every grows in my case. Yes it is a new abscess that delevoped in the same spot as the abscess that was surgically removed in Dec 2010. My surgeon did tell me it could happen again. So I wasn't to shock that it developed again just bummed out that it happen again.
Avatar n tn i just had the same exact thing done today, but it was on my butt unfortunantly. im only sixteen and this doctor had no emotion, stuck the needle in to "numb" it i felt every single movement and slice. i was screaming crying yelling nd squeezing my mom i actually bit her arm to keep myself from screaming any louuuder. she was in tears cause i was screaming so loud.
Avatar n tn It went away in a few days. She said its an abscess. I got another one now and its really small comapared to the one I had before but its on the right side this time she prescribed me dicloxacillin again and said it should go away soon. This time it didn't need to be popped because its really small and donts hurt at all like the first one. Hope this helps but I do suggest to anyone to not rely on a fourm / website for info to go to a doctor or emergency room to get it taken care of.
Avatar f tn Should I take pain killers before getting it done and which one should I take? Also is it true that if we keep getting drainage done the pus will keep coming back so should we not get it done? Please share your experiences. Thanks all!!
Avatar n tn The treatment options for a renal abscess are intravenous antibiotics and drainage of the abscess by an open operation or by inserting a catheter through a needle in the skin overlying the kidney with X-ray guidance. Nowadays percutaneous drainage is used . It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar n tn Apply warm compresses on the boil and keep the area clean. Drainage of the boil is done only when it becomes soft and forms a head. Take some over the counter pain reliever and consult a doctor for examination and antibiotics prescription. If there are recurrent boils, then please get your blood sugar levels estimated. Avatar n tn A few days ago, I went into the ER for incision and drainage of a perirectal abscess. It was packed with iodine gauze and I was sent on my way with antibiotics and pain meds. I was instructed to follow up with the referred surgeon the next day, who would take over the care of the packing and surgery I will eventually need. However, the surgeon can't see me for another 2 weeks. I still have the original packing, now 3 days old, and am not sure what to do.
Avatar n tn I have had 6 surgeries for drainage of abscesses and fistulas. I am currently on Remicade maintenance 300 mg every 8 wks. I was hospitalized 3 1/2 weeks ago for what I new was another abcess brewing. MRI revealed (8 mm abscess - they chose to treat with antibiotics and not drain, I opted to go home, after the 3 day stay. I was hospitalized again for three days this past week for the same thing...rectal pain, nausea, low grade fever, MRI now revealed (2) 8 mm abscesses.
Avatar f tn Having no idea what was wrong I went to the doctors and was put on amoxcillin (they weren't sure what was wrong as the abscess isn't visible, it is really high up under my lip and quite large). Some of my swelling has gone down since and the pain has completely stopped, although obviously the abscess still causes discomfort because of the pressure, does this mean my front tooth has died? It has changed in colour, it's now slightly greyish.
Avatar n tn I get a gross taste when I yawn almost feels like pus draining throught my 2nd to last upper molar on the right side of my mouth. I have had all my teeth checked by a dentist and no abscess has been found, or anything else that would explain the drainage. I have been seeing a lot of doctors recently, none of which seem to help me out with anything. I get some dizziness, and pressure in the ears sometimes as well. I also have what feels like swelling on my hard palate.
1649337 tn?1301463151 This was done about 2.5 hours ago. I thought the drainage would make the swelling go down instantaneously. Anyway the prescribed me a stronger antibiotic and painkillers, but I just wanted to make sure because I've been in serious cheek pain for like 4 days. What gives?
Avatar n tn If theres a fistula (lil gum boil), sometimes warm salt water will help pull the pus out of the abscess. Otherwise, your dentist can perform an incision and drainage but I wouldn't recommend that route at all. The root canal was done and everything should be fine now. Good luck with hygiene school! Maybe I'll see you at some ADA functions. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn I had mastitis while breastfeeding that turned into an abscess. Had to have incscion and drainage done. Mine was packed and I had to go back a couple times to have the packing changed out. Mine didn't require a drainage tube, they left part of the packing sticking out of the incision which works like a wick I guess and it drained by itself. (By the way I had a natural birth, no drugs and giving birth to the baby hurt less than the abscess and i/d did.
Avatar n tn Try to do this a couple times a day and use a clean cloth each time and wash the ones you use well. Wash your hands well when done. Do not attempt to squeeze it, it will be tempting but do not, you could cause a systemic infection and boils to spread. Eventually it may puss up and begin to ozz and drain. at this time you will need to wash your hands, drain the puss gently, then clean the site with antibacterial soap, and apply some anti fungal/bacterial ointment. I use Tea Tree oil my self.
1399266 tn?1280640704 My cat was diagnosed with a tooth abscess about a week ago. She was prescribed clindamycin liquid 1ml twice a day. She has been given the pre anesthesia testing several times in the past and has been unable to be anesthatised. When I took her to the vet she had a dark pink drainage from her right eye and right nostril. Her eye seems about 75% better but her nose is about the same. How long might it take to see improvement.? If she can't have the tooth removed what else can be done?
Avatar n tn Areas prone to this kind of infection include the axilla, inguinal region, and the area under the breast. You need to see your doctor for proper management. Drainage of the abscess is done, and appropriate antibiotic should be started. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Change of antibiotics is probably necessary. Abscess formation may require drainage. A check for STD is also necessary. Consult your Doctor for an examination. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn However if the condition persists then incision and drainage and surgical technique for complete closing of the wound is done. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
