Abscess drainage at home

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess drainage at home

abscess

Avatar n tn Depending on the degree of infection and drainage at the abscess site is the reason for the drains. If there is a lot, then they will put a drain in until the drainage slows down a bit. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I wouldn't recommend doing that on your own. It would be best for you to see your dentist and have them do an incision and drainage on the area. The abscess you are describing sounds very large and you should see a dentist immediately. The swelling may continue to spread and it may go to other parts of your head and face so its best to manage it ASAP before there are more complications.
Avatar m tn Cipro. Home drainage was recorded at over 1000cc to 2000cc of brown liquid. Surgeon scheduled ERCP with Gastroenterologist 8 days after placement of drain. During procedure at the point of my small intestine the pigtail catheter is discovered having entered thru the duodenal wall. The Drain bag was shut off tubing and mechanical stuff left outside my abdomen. So now I am walking around with tubing in my small intestine after 4 weeks they want to remove it.
Avatar n tn The water was cloudy most likely because there is at least one more drainage hole on the inside of your cat's mouth that the stuff has been leaking out of. These kind of abcesses are usually started by a minor, one time injury like a puncture or scratch. Since you are only seeing blood when you clean it, it has already drained. However, these abcesses can reform when the holes close over.
Avatar n tn I have yet to see any improvement from taking the antibiotics, so I went to the ER yesterday where they attempted to do and Incision and Drainage procedure. Some of the abscess was soft, but a large part of it in the middle was still hard... ??? With making an incision, the doctor was able to squeeze a good portion of the abscess out... but there is still a fairly large sized lump there. There has been no drainage coming from the incision since she did this.
Avatar f tn I've read some horrifying stories about abscesses and what happens when they rupture.
Avatar n tn (1) the wound may drain for the first two days so cover the wound with a clean DRY bandage (I used gauze pads). If the dressing becomes soaked with blood or pus, change it.(2) Once the gauze packing is removed you should wash the area carefully in the shower or bath ONCE A DAY, untill the skin opening has closed.
Avatar n tn I have had these before. There are 2 main causes. #1 Ingrown hair. for this i suggest you go see a skin doc he can write you a script for medicine to bring the hair to the surface or you could go to the regular doc and have him lance it open (OUCH!). #2 Abcess usually caused by an irritated fat cell.
Avatar f tn Drains stay in for up to a couple weeks (depending on how deep the area was lanced) and then switches to having it packed (usually by my surgeon for the first couple weeks) and then when the area is more shallow, I can pack it myself at home.
Avatar f tn The next night in the shower I felt a very tiny bump left side above the hood. Noticed but not overly concerned at that moment. By day 5 it had grown to size of pea and been that way since. It hurts when I wipe that area and I have a weird smell. panties bother it too so I'm grateful when work is over so I can get home and let her breathe. I've had a hot washcloth on it for about 15 minutes now & it seems like the swelling is going down? Any thoughts on what could be going on down here?
Avatar n tn MRI revealed (8 mm abscess - they chose to treat with antibiotics and not drain, I opted to go home, after the 3 day stay. I was hospitalized again for three days this past week for the same thing...rectal pain, nausea, low grade fever, MRI now revealed (2) 8 mm abscesses. Again, I am home on antibiotics, prednisone, nausea meds, rowasa enemas. I have had (3) colonoscopies over the past 3 years, all removing a polyp of some sort only one identified as adenoma with dysplasia.
1548207 tn?1303457780 The first one that was incised was scarey as there was so much drainage. They started to drain it at the hospital but, I guess it wasn't quite to a head because the dang thing decided to "burst" when I was returning to the hospital the next day for my second dose of IV antibitocs (I have since developed serious anaphlaxis(spelling), reactions to almost all antibiocs). It ruined a perfectly good shirt too.
454046 tn?1244569193 ) I was supposed to be having 90% of my thyroid removed but during surgery the surgeon decided to do total thyroidectomy and removed every last bit including the swollen lymph glands i had nearby, my neck is a lot thinner now than it was when i went in :) although feels really tight across the front of my neck -is this normal? and got a strange blister above the incision which even the dr did't know what it was! - any ideas?
Avatar n tn If theres a fistula (lil gum boil), sometimes warm salt water will help pull the pus out of the abscess. Otherwise, your dentist can perform an incision and drainage but I wouldn't recommend that route at all. The root canal was done and everything should be fine now. Good luck with hygiene school! Maybe I'll see you at some ADA functions. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn TWO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT THINGS... abscess: An abscess is a localized collection of pus that generally develops in response to infection. An abscess is typically painful, and it appears as a swollen area that is warm to the touch. The skin surrounding an abscess typically appears pink or red. Abscesses can develop in many parts of the body, but they usually involve the skin surface.
Avatar n tn I'm freaking out now, and I don't think my family is finacially supported for prolonged tests or secluded recovery. But if it's something I can relatively do at home, I will dedicate all my hours to her happy recovery. I have adopted the thought it may be kitty aids, or cancer, I will also consider the fact that it may be the food, or the bowls.
Avatar n tn It is often difficult and sometimes impossible to eradicate a lung abscess, without surgical drainage. As the surgeon indicated, this would be a high risk procedure but a decision against surgery also carries risk. You should seek another opinion regarding treatment of the abscess from another surgeon and/or a pediatric pulmonologist and you should request that the pulmonologist, the ID specialist and the surgeon convene to discuss the pros and cons of the available and feasible approaches.
Avatar f tn After a week in the hospital, I was sent home with a picc-line in my arm and a drainage tube for the abscess. I have been taking antibiotics vancomycin and Invanz daily through infusion. I have been home 10 days and the drainage is now cloudy light pink as opposed to the dark pink with clumps while I was in the hospital. I see improvement, but my question that can't seem to be answered is where did the infection and abscess come from?
Avatar n tn home antibiotics for 4 weeks as well as feeding tube. Nov 26 - fever spike again at night to 102.5 F. During this fever spike skins seem to flush purple and spotty. What's this? Essentially Abscess, Pneumonia, Staph Infection and allergy to penicillin. Questions are: 1) Is their some outstanding question that is getting missed? 2) Abscess is concerning are there other options to address this? 3) Can a high grade fever be the staph infection or is it the scary abscess?
Avatar n tn After one week he was released from the hospital..on the first night home there was an excessive amount of drainage and he returned to the emergency room, now he had a fistula draining from the surgery site to the lower part of the incision...the drainage was feces..in a few days the upper part on the incision opened and started draining yellowish green pus...he stayed in the hospital another week and was sent home with the instructions to use an ostomy bag to collect the drainage...
579258 tn?1250652943 Please excuse my graphic description .. but the upper abscess had purulent drainage (pus) that rolled out of it and completely saturated a 4 x 4 piece of gauze. Now, just to be clear, I am able to handle a great deal of pain. Having lived and worked with migraines all my life, having given birth and had gallbladder attacks and surgery, I can take a lot. Even at the height of this abscess, the highest pain level was felt to be a 6. Last night upon arrival, my pain scale was a 7.
Avatar m tn It was laparoscopic procedure. After coming home, I was on full liquid diet for 4 days. I had no nausea or vomiting. On 5th day, at separate times, I eat white part of egg, banana, tomato soup, and meshed potatoes (little more than I should have). Later that day, I started vomiting and ended up in emergency room. CT scan found, Small bowel obstruction, left upper quadrant abscess cavity, ascities/suspiciuos for an abscess, and hiatal hernia ( I did not have hernia before!).
Avatar m tn I've been dealing with an infected/abcessed tooth for a few days now. I was at the er on tuesday night and given tramadol for the pain and I explained to them I was already on penicillin I had started sunday night. last night i noticed a bubble on the gum next to my bad tooth...i called all over today and finally got in with a dentist and he drained it...now I get home and the bubble is still there! Is this normal or am I going to have to have it drained again? I really cant afford it.
Avatar m tn May 15 I developed an abscess. They can't get me in to get the 2 teeth pulled until June 25th. The next day, my cheek was the size of a baseball and the meds weren't helping. I went to th ER. Dr numbed it, cut a slit in it, gave me dilaudid &zophran, &sent me home with vicodin. RELIEF! June 3 it was back. I went to the dentist June 5. He couldn't see me. They called in 825mg amoxicillin 2x a day &the weakest dose of vicodin.
Avatar f tn then she died on March 31st at home. I keep on thinking if there was anything that i could of done more of. Haley drank alot of water almost right up to the day she died, at the last stages I was giving her water through a serindge. I dont know if it was arthritis, or the abscessed on her leg.
Avatar n tn He and large and small cells of cancer. I have been on Iv vancomycin with home health. My right middle lobe has a opacity and also my doc said I have pneumonia. I also had a doc tell me it was staff or might be lung cancer. I had 100 ml of fluid taking out of my lungs. the color was brown. The Doc can not get a good biopsy because of the the med. Avatar n tn After I'm done there is still a black dot (as large as a pinhead) though the area is flat. And then we go at it again after a few months. It is difficult for him to apply something daily as he travels often and can't reach there, but we can try our best. Is there anything we can do? Or go to a doctor or aesthetician? He already consulted two dermatologists in our home country but both insisted that the pore had dried up! And nothing could be or needed to be done about it.
Avatar f tn I recently went to a park with my friend and when I got home, noticed small bumps on my thigh. I assumed they would go away soon enough and didn't bother about them too much. In the next 2 days, the bumps had grown massively to the size of ping pong balls and hurt a lot. In the middle of my ping pong bumps, was a scab and it would come often come off and release pus and blood. I googled this and the signs that matched the most was a boil. However, boils are supposed to be red and soft.
Avatar f tn Is there any way to treat it at home? Please let me know, thanks.
1322789 tn?1284489709 The dr who operated told me after proctoscopy that I have haemorids also but we cant do any thing as you have infection due to abscess and that abscess was drained by operation and did not make its way ti inner side means my rectum or colon. But now after 2.
