Abscess cat surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess cat surgery

1399266 tn?1280640704 My 8 year old cat, Kupid was diagnosed with a dental abscess about a week ago and put on clindamycin 1 ml twice a day. When she started she had a pink drainage coming from her right eye and right nostril. Her eye has gotten better and her nose has slightly improved. She is still sneezing and looks terrible but she is eating on her own. This cat has failed the pre anesthesia test twice after having complications during her spay surgery so we are reluctant to put her under to pull her tooth.
Avatar n tn I just took my cat to the vet because one side of his face was swollen. He said that he's got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection. Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better.
Avatar f tn secondly there are no herbs or natural remedies that will be effective with the treatment of this abscess, kitty will need to be on a medication from your Vet. an abscess can be a life threatening issue, please don't hesitate to have a Vet look after this for kitty. I could give you some idea's on natural remedies to help strengthen his immune system(only) after the surgery if you like, however do be sure and use the antibiotic as prescribed.
Avatar m tn I just wanted to know if the surgery for this skin Cancer is a fairly safe surgery, I know ther are always risks when it comes to surgery but is this a common surgery for cat? I just have bad anxiety and I would just like some peace of mind before I go through with the surgery which will be in about a week or so.She is not a feral cat but acts like one so she is not much of a people person but I still love her lol She is a 10 yr old cat by the way Thanks for any advice and have a great day.
Avatar f tn Plus, a feral attacked my tuxedo Patches a while back and I had to get him surgery for an abscess he got. Paying nearly $700 or so for it!!! So no way my cats stay away from the rest...its better for me and them. I feed the outside cats, outside.
Avatar f tn The problem with surgery is it leaves the cat with a flappy ear. Unfortunate because cats communicate by ears and a lowered ear is always going to cause a fight. I would try the needle first with syringe. Otherwise the ear will never be the same after surgery.
Avatar f tn In August I was back in the hospital in severe pain. Cat Scan showed Left ovary measures 3.2x2.8 c, Follicles noted. There is a complex cystic area in the right adnexa measuring 4.8 x 2.8 cm. This may represent a complex ovarian cyst, possibility of hematoma or abscess cannot be excluded. I spent 5 days in the hospital (not the hospital that did the hysterectomy) on heavy antibiotics. I can not have sex without pain and still suffer from almost constant cramps and pain. Any suggestions?
2216535 tn?1339412493 hey i just got my cat fixed 2 days ago and her tummy is a little swallen how do i get it to go down im worried that its goin to affect the healing
Avatar f tn However, it has never turned into an abscess thankfully and my gastro said surgery will only make it worse so we leave it alone. I am afraid I don't know anything about a fistulectomy with a seton - sounds as if it is like the procedure sometimes done for internal haemorrhoids. I don't know if you have had Remicade in the past, but this has had good results with fistulising Crohn's.
Avatar m tn vets not wearing gloves to do surgery); poor skin preparation technique before surgery; a freak bug entering the surgical site (sometimes nasty bacteria like Golden Staph and flesh-eating Streptococcus and Mycobacteria species will find their way into a vet clinic and cause havoc) or the animal having a poor or compromised immune system. Animals with Cushing's disease, Diabetes Mellitus, FIV, FeLV and other immune suppressive disorders may be more prone to wound infections.
567724 tn?1216840033 i was wondering my cat has a red round open sore spot by its tail. he does not seem to be in pain. and i see no puss near it, and its not swolllen. and i dont see anything in its stool.
1110049 tn?1409405744 My memory of the vet I visited with my cat today was having my dear little dog put down there, and when I went into the same surgery, it was so heart wrenching. I was already distraught as my cat Smudge was poorly. He had not eaten for a few days, and was very listless, slept all the time, and I knew something was wrong. He goes out a lot, and there have been reports from neighbours that he was fighting other cats at night. Yes, it probably was due to a fight.
Avatar f tn Just had a call from my vet inquiring how Sunshine is doing post abscess (I had surgery on Tuesday and my doctor hasn't called me!) and she stated that each cat is very individual in what they will eat and what they spurn. Apparently, dry food is OK and even Friskies is not a problem (what do you know, a vet who doesn't recommend a more expensive food). She said some cats just don't like wet food and not giving wet food should not be a concern.
4105307 tn?1369535032 My 11 year old kitty with cushing's disease has survived and has been a happy cat the past 3 years. For 2 years she has been on insulin 2 times a day, currently 8 units each time. 4 days ago the vet opened a Retrobulbar abscess at the back of her mouth, the probable cause of her bulging eye and third eyelid showing. Without her normal drinking and eating her BG went down to 58 and twice we gave her karo syrup. We gave her 4 and then 6 units to adjust to the amount she would eat.
131114 tn?1380086790 My white cat has had an on-going problem with with a black substance on the left side of her nose. Underneath it is a a shallow raw spot. There is also a leak in her left eye, that also turns reddish-black. I have taken her to the vet and he tried anti-bios, salves, drops and it helped temporarily, but he did not know what it was. her vision is fine and she doesn't seem to be in pain, but it's ugly. And maybe her nose might be uncomfortable where it's raw.
Avatar f tn Its been 4 months and I am still not well-at all. I have dizzeness, severe headaches and pain, and always feel like im under water or in a fog. Oh ya I stammer a lot and have memory loss and am so very tired and just wiped out. Sometimes I dont see things right. When will this all end? Can someone tell me what kind of meds works best for the pain in the head. I tried Vicodin but got tired of being nausea, Then I was on Butalbital and that was worse-didnt help the pain.
Avatar f tn I'm just at my 5 weeks of recovering and no where near putting on regular clothes. I've had a infection with an abscess inside since surgery and now a infected area in my stitches. It's been an interesting journey. Check out HysterSisters.com also for answers. Pains come and go and it's hard to know what's normal and what's not. We're all so different and experience our own things with recovery.
Avatar n tn My friend just had reconstructive nose surgery last week - They had to cut some rib & some ear cartalege to rebuild her nose from two previous REALLY BAD surgeries. She was in an after-care facility for three days following surgery, went home on last Friday - and had a f/u visit on Monday - and the Dr. ambulanced her to the hospital due to a severe staph infection. She's extremely sick - much pain & her nose is like the size of a tangerine.
Avatar n tn Nov 24 - Concern over fevers and spot on X-ray with subsequent CT scan reveal abscess of 4cm x 5 cm on right lung. - Surgeon removed option of surgically removing abscess off the table due to risks. - Staph Infection was found in central line. Blood cultures have been done to ascertain if Staph has enter bloodstream. - Medications were switch to Vancomycin and Clenomycin to cover options for addressing the abscess.
Avatar m tn This week I had a lot of pain and went to the er where they did a cat scan and ultrasound, the diagnoise was that I have a 3.7cmby3.0by3.1cm. or a 3.7cm left adnexal cystic mass lesion.Differential diagnosis for this includes reatined left overian cyst. Differential diagnosis also includes abscess, neoplastic process, infectious process, What does this mean? I received the report myself to take to the gynocologist, will I have to have surgery again? did the dr leave part of my ovary?
Avatar n tn A month after my surgery, I developed an infection in my belly button with an abscess forming in the incision. That has since cleared up, but the pain is still there. I've also been consistently bloated, especially around my belly button, ever since the surgery- which NEVER has happened before. This is my third lap. Also since the surgery, I've had recurring issues with constipation, heart burn around an hour after I eat, and waves of nausea. Any idea what could be going on?
Avatar m tn My name is Hank about six weeks ago I had an abscess the size of a large credit on my right arm near the crease of your arm I had it removed surgically and everything went fine with the recovery over a four week period at the point of seeing the doctor to get the stitches out I complained of a pain in my left elbow which I felt was due to a prior surgery 10 years ago which was called tennis release Tendons are reattached into the bone area and everything went fine with the surgery as well I've
Avatar n tn Everything I have read sounds kind of like i had and anal abscess. However, all of the articles say that surgery is necesary in order to drain the avscess. Although this really hurt, I don't know that i would have had to have surgery in order to drain this. Also, all of the articles said that 40-50% of all anal abseses lead to anal fissures. Should i see a doctor?? or should i see on only if the pain and irritation do not subside? Was this an anal abscess?
Avatar n tn I posted last week about my cat with a tooth abscess. I took your advice and he had the tooth removed along with the pre-surgery blood work. Everything went well and he is recovering nicely. When I brought him back from the vet, his littermate sister who he had never been separated from (they are 5) did not seem to recognize him. It's now been 2 days and she's hissing and growling and acting like she doesn't know him at all.
Avatar f tn He has shown a great deal of respect for my perception in this and feels that this could be early stage OVCA. After I use the Librax for a few weeks, he will do a CAT scan if the symptoms are still present. Bartholin's gland cancer has now come into the mix. I had a lump in the right one in August and simply thought it would "come to a head" like a sebaceous cyst. Had out-pt surgery Thurs on it. No cyst, no abscess. The doctor marsupialized it (slit) for relief.
Avatar n tn I'm 41yrs old, in reasonable fitness and health but have been diagnosed with a ruptured appendix and have had a drain/antibiotic therapy to clear up the infection and abscess. The appendix will be taken out in 4 weeks' time. What range of physical activity should I carry out in the interval? Would there be a risk of causing damage by lifting, bending, moderate gym exercise etc ? Thanks..
Avatar f tn The next day I was in excruciating pain in my abdomen, rushed to E.R for test, cat can of belly results found fluid in my pelvis and a kink in my lower intestine. Dr. were considering surgery, but my pain passed after 15 hours and morphine, fluids, hospital stay. I am now scheduled for a full barium series of the lower bowel out patient and a pelvic ultra sound because of the fluid around my pelvis. Could the fluid be related to the scope, the blocked intestine or something else?
Avatar m tn Dear heidipost, A swelling under the jaw in a young animal may be an enlarged lymph node or an abscess. A lymph node may enlarge due to nearby inflammation, like from eruption of an adult tooth or from a minor abscess from a wound if he has been "arguing" with another cat or a wound in the mouth from chewing something.
442027 tn?1209869942 Doctor on call perscribed a antiobiotic for what he thinks is an INFECTION from a OLD BLOOD CLOT that needs to pass that developed from surgery. This I find out is the STUPID PRESSURE I've dealt with for days!!!!!!!! WALKING, WALKING, WALKING....... NOTHING YET. I walked for 2 1/2 hours STRAIGHT because he said I needed to KEEP MOVING. I went in for an emergency check up Monday and I DO have a blood clot that needs to pass. He said if it doesn't pass it'll reobsorb into my body.
