Avatar m tn A boil, also referred to as a skin abscess, is a localized infection deep in the skin. A boil generally starts as a reddened, tender area. Over time, the area becomes firm and hard. Eventually, the center of the abscess softens and becomes filled with pus. Finally, the pus "forms a head," which can be surgically opened or spontaneously drain out through the surface of the skin. Boil on buttocks is usually due to plugged sweat glands that become infected or by an ingrown hair.
Avatar m tn When I asked what was wrong he said it could be a few things and prescribed Augmentin 825 mg twice daily and Naproxenum 250 mg twice daily for a week. He said told me it is best to wait and see if it gets worse and if it does go back to a doctor and have it looked at again.

Avatar n tn t a big deal. If the boil is large enough or is starting to form into an abscess, your doctor will first numb the boil and the surrounding area and then make a small incision to allow the pus to drain. The incision is then usually packed with gauze and an antiseptic to allow further drainage. In the meantime, till you see your doctor, use warm damp compresses for 20 minutes three to four times a day as it may help draw the boil out. Take care....

Avatar m tn I've had an abscess or boil on my upper back between my spine and shoulder blade that doesn't seem to be coming to a head but instead drying up or being reabsorbed into the skin. It's about 1 - 2 cm in diameter, pink and a little soft (can feel some fluid inside) but not painful and not getting larger or smaller and I'm having what seems like muscular shooting pain up my neck and down my spine on that same side.

Avatar f tn I have a strange pink bump on my arm. First, I contracted pink eye from my nephew who attends daycare. A doctor prescribed antibiotic eye drops, and my eyes cleared in about two weeks. Shortly after, my entire right forearm began to feel itchy. For several days I began seeing a recurring small itchy bump on my arm. It was present for about 30 minutes at a time. Finally, in a nearby spot on my arm a larger bump developed. It doesn't look like an abscess or boil.
