Common Questions and Answers about Abscess after incision

abscess

Avatar f tn I went home the next day, then returned to the hospital 3 days later with severe abdominal pain and fever. I was diagnosed with a pelvic abscess and severe infection. After a week in the hospital, I was sent home with a picc-line in my arm and a drainage tube for the abscess. I have been taking antibiotics vancomycin and Invanz daily through infusion. I have been home 10 days and the drainage is now cloudy light pink as opposed to the dark pink with clumps while I was in the hospital.

16744917 tn?1451266839 I was wondering if anyone had incision leaks weeks after surgery. Mine was completely healed and then busted open in a small spot and drained. I am over 3 weeks out from surgery. Not sure if it's normal or not. Should I be concerned?
Avatar n tn I just had a bartholin abscess surgically removed. I wanted to know when i could have sex again.
Avatar m tn I had thyroid surgery last week and when the doctor tried to remove the nonabsorbable prolene stitch today, it snapped apart and most of it was left in the incision. I was told the only way to get it out was to "reopen the incision under general anesthetia." My other choice was to watch the incision as it heals to see if the prolene stitch (monofiliment) starts to come out by itself and could then be pulled out. They also said it would look OK cosmetically if it were left in.
Avatar f tn One area is reddish purple and is an abscess, the other is darker dead skin from a healed abscess that I had previously had I&D twice. Because that particular incision is at the bottom of my breast it closes quickly after incisioin (within a week). Well from using the clay, a little bit of pus was allowed to drain out from a tiny tiny hole through the scar. I had noticed that the area was filling with pus, ONCE AGAIN.
Avatar n tn I had glue on my incision and part of it was "torn out" when I took off my scarf one day... leaving a gaping hole in my neck. I cleaned it with soap and water and put first aid tape on it. I told my surgeon what had happened and what I did and he said, "good job." I would recommend you try the same, but if you see redness, feel warmth, or have abundant discharge, get an appt. w/your surgeon.
Avatar f tn I had a hip replacement surgery january 2018 and 1 yr 6 months almost to the day I had an abscess show up at the incision site. Since June 2019 I have had it lanced and packed. Then a debridement August 20 and then again october 1 what is going on. Is my body rejecting my hip after a year and a half the abscess is back once again what is going on. Please help!!!!!
Avatar f tn Because the puss was kind of all over, I was put under anesthesia to have a small surgery incision and drainage. He made an incision on the side/edge of my areola. After it closed up and healed you couldn't see the scar, it totally blended in. Now the mass is back in the area again and this morning some drainage started leaking from that old scar. Hope everything is okay!
Avatar n tn It is possible that she could have developed an abscess underneath her incision that prevented it from healing properly; it could be infected. If your current doctor isn't willing to help her, then find another one ASAP.
Avatar f tn If there is an abscess, incision and drainage must be done and the specimen is sent to the pathologist for evaluation. Good luck.
Avatar f tn So very happy to find this group. Was diagnosed GM after 10 weeks of unsuccessful treatment. I've been on 6 courses of antibiotics, 2 FNAs, and an I&D. I have three abscess that were hard, but after a week have become mushy. The skin seems to have a different texture. Does this mean they are coming to the surface and are about to burst? Any advice would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Please help anyone? 7 wks ago i got an abscess incision and drainage(jus next 2 anus) after being admitted to hospital it literally accured over a 3 day period with antibiotics having no effect, the insision was so small it made the packing of cavity the most painfull ordeal i have ever experienced..
Avatar n tn Hello, This persistent abscess that does not get cleared with antibiotics is called Parulis as this elevated nodule is actually an opening of fistulous tract from some chronic abscess either in association with tooth (periapical abscess) or gum abscess or could be sinus in your case. As I can not do physical exam hence can not say for sure about the origin of the abscess. It needs x-ray and second opinion of a dentist who can examine.
Avatar n tn If the boil is large enough or is starting to form into an abscess, your doctor will first numb the boil and the surrounding area and then make a small incision to allow the pus to drain. The incision is then usually packed with gauze and an antiseptic to allow further drainage. In the meantime, till you see your doctor, use warm damp compresses for 20 minutes three to four times a day as it may help draw the boil out. Take care....
Avatar f tn I had an abscess in my right breast 10 years ago and it left a little lump after it healed. Two weeks ago I developed an abscess in the same spot. My GP recommended a week of antibiotics (Augmentin) and it started to drain on its own two days back. I feel a thickened area which hasn't gone down. Should I be worried? The abscess continues to drain slowly and I have covered it with sterilized gauze. Please help.
Avatar f tn May want to have a rectal- ultrasound to see where the abscess (fistula) is and find out if the abscess is gone. I'm on Medicaid and they covered the tests and surgeries.
Avatar n tn I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Next I went to a breast surgeon and she performed incision and drainage and another ten days of keflex. The abscess still would not heal so I had surgery a few days ago in which the surgeon removed the abscess and I thnk some of the infected ducts. My question is what is the likely hood that this will reoccur again, and im not sure if she removed all of my ducts or just the ones in the affected area.
Avatar f tn t have any rotten teeth or fillings and after wearing a brace and looking after my teeth really well I am so upset! The only possible reason for this abscess that I can think of is that about a year ago, my front tooth got the corner chipped off. Please respond asap... I am a worrier!! 1649337 tn?1301459551 I recently had to go to the ER after the meds my dentist prescribed me (penicillin and hydrocondon) were not able to reduce the swelling in my jaw and cheek. The Oral surgeon basically took a scalpel and drained my cheek. I smelled the puss and there's plenty of blood, but when I looked at my cheek later, I noticed it's still swollen to about the exact same size (maybe a tad bit smaller but not much). Is that normal? This was done about 2.5 hours ago.
Avatar f tn Hello, What you may be having is a boil or an abscess and pressing it has worsened the condition. Apply warm compresses,Neosporin ointment and calamine lotion and avoid messing with it.You can take anti-inflammatory pain killers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen. If the lump persists then it will be best to get it evaluated from a doctor as you may need oral antibiotics and incision and drainage.
Avatar m tn May 15 I developed an abscess. They can't get me in to get the 2 teeth pulled until June 25th. The next day, my cheek was the size of a baseball and the meds weren't helping. I went to th ER. Dr numbed it, cut a slit in it, gave me dilaudid &zophran, &sent me home with vicodin. RELIEF! June 3 it was back. I went to the dentist June 5. He couldn't see me. They called in 825mg amoxicillin 2x a day &the weakest dose of vicodin.
Avatar n tn I had an tiny abscess so deep in the root of my tooth (1st molar at the top closest to the front) that after trying to get to it via the normal rout i.e. through the part of the tooth that shows, they had to split my gum and go into it directly through the root and fill it that way after cleaning out the infection. It required four stitches - the split in my gum was around three inches long which I found a little severe for one tooth root.
