My Doctor prescribed me Abilify as an enhancer for my Paxil/Xanax cocktail. Long story short, I was taking 2mg of abilify once a day. Recently My Insurance decided they were going to be the Doctor and my funding for the Abilify ran out. I am not going to pay $543.00 for meds can't afford it and think that price is ludicrous. So now I am in cold turkey wean from Abilify. I know that I won't die from this, I know that my anxiety will increase big time.

I think that abilify is meant to be taken with antidepressants and xanax isn't an antidepressant. I'd ask a doc about it.

Abilify is an antipsychotic used as a mood stabilizer. It is relatively effective and its usual side effect being that its activating, meaning that it instead of making a person tired it can keep them awake. Quite common and happened to me as well as other people. It would help on bipolar but its doubtful it would help sleep but you could ask your psychiatrist more about this.

So yesterday Abilify(2mg in am) was added to my 600mg(3002xd)Lithium, 1mg(1xd)Xanax and of course 50mg(1/2 or 1@bedtime)..Has anyone had any experience with Abilify?f it's something bad..nevermind.

Hi I was wondering if anyone knew if the medication abilify could cause anxiety. My anxiety is so bad I don't know what to do. I am also on a low dose of prozac for depression. Abilify was added because the dr. thought i might be bi-polar. I dont think i am nor do my friends and family?? But recently the anxiety is unbearable i take xanax when it's really bad but it's has been so bad that i would have to take it once or twice a day and i really don't want to??? any suggestions??

I have been on Cymbalta (30mg 2 X day) for a few weeks (about six) and my doctor gave me some Abilify samples (2mg) to try along with the Cymbalta. I have not been having irrational or psychotic thoughts, but I have been tired a lot. The hope is that the Abilify will give me some energy without side effects. I'm 57 year old male and have been on pain meds for five years due to disc issues, stenosis, severe arthritis, and fibromyalgia.

if you plan on taking xanax long term you might want to consider Klonapin instead. Xanax is highly addictive and is not recommended for long-term use while Klonapin (which is very similar and in my opinion works just as well) is more suitable for long term use and less addictive.

When the psychiatrist could finally see me she attributed some of my anxiety to Xanax withdrawal and akathisia from the abilify. She did genetic testing to find out how I metabolize drugs ( it turns out I am prone to side effects than most people ) and prescribed Geodon and Buspar. I am taking neither. The buspar works fine but makes me dizzy. The Geodon I didn't try. I am tired of medication and feel more like my old self without it.

I live with major dpression/anxiety and am currently on Wellbutrin XL 400mg, Cymbalta 90 mg, Lexapro 10 mg, Repridal 10 mg and Xanax 3 mg and a couple of other non related meds. My doctor is trying to raise my energy level and simplify my meds. W ould ambilify help with energy? you have to be careful with alcohol, especially because of the Xanax. I think you may have given me the wrong dose.

I saw my doctor again, she upped my Effexor to the highest dose and put me on xanax, I also started seeing a therapist because I am having extreme obsessive thoughts about my ex and his new gf, I have learned everything I could learn about her online, I stalk their FB and Linkin pages. Abilify is the least likely of the antipsychotics to cause weight gain. Saphris and Fanapt are two other new options. The antipsychotic agent that I take that is in Phase II FDA study (google "Dr. Javitt, glycine) is among new class of antipsychotics that will not be out for years (NMDA receptor modulates) but when they are approved will have a more favorable side effect profile than current antipsychotics and a fuller recovery rate.

Just curious why you switched from Klonopin to xanax? Xanax seems to be a little stronger but wears off quicker and more abrubtly. Klonopin helps more with breakthrough anxiety in my opinion. A good friend of mine had to switch from Xanax to Klonopin because they were feelign withdrawals from xanax during the day...especially if they waited an extra hour or so to take their dose because they forgot.

Paxil is indicated for long term use, while Xanax is not. Do not increase Xanax - you risk developing a tolerance and it will likely become less and less effective. I'd investigate an alternate SSRI rather than increase the benzo. You'll regret it later if you rely on the X. Best Wishes.

I do not know if there are less side effects than xanax. I do know, however, that xanax is only supposed to be prescribed for short term use and as needed. Klonopin is for long-term daily use. I am sure someone will post here to help you.

I am not too familiar with Klonopin but many people have switched from xanax to that..my thought about it though is that you say you are taking it to sleep. Xanax is an anti anxiety med and not very useful for sleep. i would consider tapering off it completely and try a med for sleep. I have taken xanax for many years and at one point was on @7mg..but I successfully weaned off it.

It is by far the better and safer choice over Xanax.......but perhaps his kickbacks are greater with the Xanax. One should always consider that when the prescription pad comes out! I would, POSSIBLY, give this doctor ONE last chance to redeem himself. Tell him you do not want the Xanax, that the diazepam is working very well for you, but if he still insists on prescribing Xanax, I would run, not walk, out of his office and find another doctor poste haste!
