Common Questions and Answers about Abilify vs saphris

abilify

Avatar n tn is anyone on saphris? my pdoc changed me from seroquel and abilify to this new med, which i start tonight. the other 2 was causing my blood sugar and pressure to start going up. i felt fine taking this combo but don't want to take 2 more meds for blood sugar and blood pressure.
Avatar n tn my dr changed me from abilify and serquel to trazone and saphris. i was ok for about 3 days then started to feel sick, nausa chills muscle aches ect ect. i don't think it was a virus. but my question----can you have withdraws going of one type of meds and going on another that is simalar. i think going off serquel cold turkey and abilify is what did me in or maybe side effects from the new meds. i took the old meds yesterday and not the new ones and already feel better.
585414 tn?1288941302 Abilify works in a manner somewhat different from the other antipsychotics and Saphris was based on Abilify (Serotonin-Dopamine agonists) so it should have a similar side effect profile of having less sedation and less of a potential for weight gain and diabetes (though all current antipsychotics can cause this). If you want to know the full side effect profile as well as beneficial results go to the medication website.
Avatar m tn I tried Zeldox and it made me so hyper I couldnt funtion, as well as not being able to sleep or hold down food, so I stopped it. I am seeing the Dr this coming week and I am going to suggest Abilify or Saphris and see what she thinks, but I was wondering what you are taking now, and if it has helped with the weight loss. Let me know - thx.
Avatar n tn has anyone on abilify developed eye twitching and what did you do. also has anyone developed hight blood sugars from seroquel and what did you do about it. i've been on this combo for 2 months and felt great---------then the side effects happened. i was switched to saphris to replace the abilify-------------anyone have info on this drug-----------------and lunstra and trazodone to replace the seroquel for sleep i don't feel well. i feel like i have a stomach flu.
440120 tn?1211724496 I found out that my Pharmacy has a program for me to get Abilify for free so I want to give it a try. I was wondering if there are any bad side affects to look out for.
Avatar f tn Ask your psychiatrist about the newly approved antipsychotics Fanapt and Saphris as I had posted before. They work like Abilify so they have less of a potential for weight gain. All current antipsychotics have that potential but some more than others and each person reacts differently to each medication.
Avatar f tn The three newest FDA approved antipsychotics, Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris have less of a potential of weight gain than other antipsychotics. You could ask your psychiatrist if those are potential options.
Avatar f tn All antipsychotics have the potential of weight gain the least 3 being Abilify, Saphris and Fanapt. If she has bipolar there are also standard mood stabilizers as well of course: http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/meds/moodstabilizers.
585414 tn?1288941302 This is a new antipsychotic in development that works in the same manner as Abilify (Serotonin Dopamine Antagonists), Fanapt and Saphris but since each person responds differently to each medication if accepted it should be another option for people: http://www.szmagazine.com/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.
7773352 tn?1394065574 I am a 20 year old female and almost every medicine that I've taken for bipolar has caused me to gain weight. I've been taking Viibryd for my depression for a few years but it isn't enough. I took Depakote, and gained weight from my increase in appetite. Then I tried Seroquel, which worked good but I ate so much and gained weight. Then I tried Saphris, and gained 15 pounds! I couldn't stop eating.
Avatar f tn It is often activating though so if you have that problem you could ask your psychiatrist if you could take it in the morning. Along with Abilify and Geodon, Fanapt and Saphris are two new FDA approved antipsychotics (approved for bipolar as well) that have less of a potential for weight gain. See what happens and keep informed and discuss available options with your psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn The other atypical antipsychotics (also used as mood stabilizers) that have less of a potential of weight gain are Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris. You could ask your psychiatrist about those options. I had similar reactions to Zeldox but each person responds differently to each medication.
Avatar n tn and your very kind words my problem is side effects. after 1 year of different combos i finally found seroquel and abilify with ativan and lexapro worked well for me. then the side effects hit. abilify and eye twitching. they did a b12 level on me cause research shows low b12 can also cause eye twitching. seroquel caused my bood sugars to go high but i have a strong family history of type 2 diabetes. any way.
Avatar f tn The newest antipsychotics Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris are the least likely to do this but they may not be quite as effective mood stabilizers (although they are approved in this capacity) but only a psychiatrist would be able to make a conclusive judgment.
Avatar f tn Abilify is often activating. Lamictal can make a person manic in higher doses. I did stay on Lamictal comfortably for 10 years but I was only able to last a week on Abilify as it had a caffeine like effect. If they need you to start on an antipsychotic there are other choices and recently a new antipsychotic (similar to the current ones but each person tolerates each one differently) Saphris was FDA approved so when that is released in the pharmacies that's one more choice.
Avatar m tn I do know however that when I was on Zyprexa (which has the strongest potential of weight gain) I gained 35 pounds and that when I requested to be changed to another antipsychotic I was able to lose the weight but I had to make dietary changes. Abilify (along with Saphris and Fanapt) has the least likelihood of this potential but its still there.
Avatar f tn My view which i expressed here many times yet never took abilify myself is that i have the feeling that lamictal+abilify is not a best combo because both work upwards, i happened to correspond with a lady in a fifferent forum who took both and was anxious so i advised her to ask her pdoc why not lamictal+seroquel and she did and since last january i haven't heard from her because she withdrew from the forum, upon writing to her she said she is doing fine and quite stable, so no need to rea
Avatar f tn Yes Zyprexa was extremely sedating for me. I slept 10 hours a day on it. Out of all the antipsychotics Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris are generally the least sedating but each person responds differently to each medication.
Avatar f tn Lithium is highly effective but for some people can cause cognitive blunting and sedation. With antipsychotics, the newest ones Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris have less of a potential of weight gain but as they can change heart rhythms you would have to ask your psychiatrist if they could be used safely if you have heart valve problems. This is a complete list of mood stabilizers although it should be noted some are FDA approved medications but still off label for bipolar: http://www.
899491 tn?1243773627 Best to keep in touch with your psychiatrist as that particular medication was recently approved and just started to be in use though from what I know it works similarily to Abilify so its side effect profile might be similar as well but you could look on the medication website and discuss it with your psychiatrist.
Avatar n tn You could ask your doctor about a specific diet that would help you cut back sugar and carbohydrates and help reduce weight and regular exercise is essential as well. Every antipsychotic has a different potential to cause weight gain (Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris being the least) and if it becomes a severe concern you could ask your psychiatrist about other currently available options but each person reacts differently to each medication.
Avatar f tn I do know I had less of a problem with weight gain with Lamictal and that among the current generation of antipsychotics, Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris are the least likely to cause weight gain but each person responds differently to each medication. Ask your psychiatrist about available options.
1249261 tn?1268868936 Every antipsychotic has the potential of weight gain, the least 3 being Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris. With Geodon, everyone including myself when I took it is required to get an EKG because of the concern of heart arrythmia. The only mood stabilizer that can cause weight loss and is also specifically prescribed for this effect is Topomax but generally its only used as a supplemental mood stabilizer and it has some side effects of its own of concern.
Avatar f tn All antipsychotics CAN make you gain weight, but some are worse than others. Geodon is supposed to be weight neutral, and Abilify mostly weight neutral (won't make you gain or lose). Saphris has gotten a lot of good reviews in the weight department, and I believe Latuda has as well, but these are both still brand only, which might affect insurance coverage (and will affect cost). Unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure if a med will cause you problems without trying it first.
Avatar f tn Hi all. I'm new to this forum. I'm on day four of taking Abilify 5 mg. I've taken it once before but had to stop due to extreme restlessness. I have RLS really bad anyway and it made it 100 times worse and all the time. I'm hoping that I don't have the same reaction this time. I started taking it again because I don't sleep. Absolutely can't. At all! Drives me crazy.
1172209 tn?1263427216 All the atypical antipsychotics have the potential to cause metabolic imbalances that often lead to weight gain and can create the changes that lead to diabetes, Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris being the 3 with the least of this potential. Eating a proper diet of course can help strongly but it still can be a problem.
