Abilify side effects bipolar

Common Questions and Answers about Abilify side effects bipolar

abilify

1696867 tn?1312609591 They put her on Lithium and then added abilify a week later. The abilify gave her horrible side effects and I never want to see my daughter in that condition again! I detest the drug Abilify. It is a reckless drug in my opinion. I have been prescribed Lamictal now for 3 years. It is the right med for me. I am not on the floor with depression and do not gain weight. I wish some could challenge their docs.
571167 tn?1223214465 I do not believe the medications the medical community has place him on are worth the side-effects. They placed him on Levetiracetam, Benztropine, and Abilify, and the side-effects are NOT worth the potential benefit of what--self-control? I have worked with youth in placement for 18 years, and these medications do not make any significant difference in their judgments because they do not change their value system.
1499921 tn?1308446605 other bipolar type problems and what people personally experienced as side-effects.. expecially weight side effects.. I really don't need to gain anymore weight. Any advice, personal experience and knowledge is welcome.
1564087 tn?1308947518 I've been on effexor xr for years, and recently added abilify. I've been diagnosed with major depression and generalized anxiety, but I think I have bipolar II due to episodes of hypomania. Anyway, I haven't been on abilify very long (a month or so), but I have not noticed any side effects. Possibly excitability, but I am not sure. I switched my dose from the prescribed qhs to qam.
Avatar f tn I am currently on Geodone because that was the one with the most tolerable side effects. I get bad agitation, shake to the point I had one person assume I had Parkinson's disease, and have lost a considerable amount of weight to the point I am down to a size four when I should be closer to a size six. Needless to say I really want to get off the Geodone. I also have Chronic Kidney Disease so taking more meds would be a bad idea. I am wondering about Abilify instead of Geodone.
Avatar f tn t shake the lethargy either. I am just concerned with the quality of my life because the side effects of my medication are really affecting me. The reason i have continued on this medication is becuase it is one of the only antipsych medications approved for adolescents according to my psych doc. I am 17 by the way. Does anyone else, or has anyone else had the same issues with Abilify, and any other advice to a newly diagnosed is appreciated. thanks!
Avatar n tn t know what they specifically treat in bipolar disorder, but if it works similar to antipsychotics in the disorder, it would probably be better to switch to an anticonvulsant rather than continue taking an antipsychotic, provided it works for you. Prolonged usage of antipsychotics can have permanent side effects, but not always.
569026 tn?1216982293 I really do not like Seroquel nor Abilify since I have so many side effects like swollen neck glands, stiff neck, manic mania that lasts 24/7 and insomnia.
642393 tn?1227032656 Abilify has a lot of information on the web about side effects and a quick google may work well, always remember that side effects are not all going to happen to you or even likely - Abilify is well liked and fairly safe compared to some of the AP and AC drugs like Geodon and Risperdal.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Bipolar 2 and ADHD. My Dr. wanted to put me on Abilify. My question is will Abilify help me with my mood swings caused by Bipolar 2???
5544493 tn?1369608788 If the side effects look scary, go look up the full side effects profile for an OTC drug you use often (like ibuprofen), which will give you an idea of how scary the full side effects profiles sound.
Avatar n tn I have recently been reading about the blood sugar issue. My son is taking seroquel now but as he is not diabetic, I have no idea what it is doing to his blood sugar. He's also currently on a very low dose of 12.5. I guess it mostly makes him sleepy and unfortunately, too sleepy as he doesn't like it. I like it because it gets him to stay asleep all night but with severe depression, I know it's probably not doing anything for mood at that dose.
642393 tn?1227032656 Hi , Never heard of this until your post. So my curiousity led me to the abilify website. It is sometimes given as an add on medication for major depression. But it really is an anti-psychotic medicine for bipolar and schizophrenia, There are some 'big cautions' on the possible side effects of anit psychotic meds including abilify. If I were you, I would just stick with just an AD and find one that suits you.
Avatar f tn re not the right ones for you. Abilify can be very difficult, but so can Lexapro for some. Two drugs present two sets of side effects rather than one set. Are you actually bipolar, or diagnosed with depression and some bipolar subtype, because if it's the latter, you're really just suffering from depression. It might be easier on your mind to think of it like that.
Avatar f tn I've been taking abilify for about 6 months now and I'm up to 20mg a day. It seems to be working but I'm not having the drowsy side effects that you speak of, but then I do take my bipolar meds at night, which seems to decrease any sleepiness I might have. Also my doctor prescribed a medication called Provigil to help counteract the drowsiness caused by my medications because I do take several and all of them may cause drowsiness.
3248163 tn?1354847640 You can also try calling the the makers of Abilify. Many drug companies will help you if you call them. Also everyone's body reacts to drugs differently and I have tried many. I take Lithium and I don't have any side effects. Have been on it 4 yrs. I did have side effects at the beginning that took 2-3 weeks to go away but they did and it has been fine for me ever since. Try the websites above too. Also some Mental Health Clinics will dispense certain meds, they may have Abilify.
Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
Avatar f tn Did you have any side effects with Abilify? I had weird side effects taking abilify with lamictal. I felt dizzy and was hallucinating like there were bugs crawling under my skin. I kept scratching at myself and my skin felt like it was on fire from the inside out. It burned really bad to urinate. It burned during sex (friction). Any friction on my skin felt like it was on fire. I stopped abilify and all those side effects went away. I've been on Lamictal since.
5032487 tn?1365824021 I am currently on Topamax and have been for over a year now.....when I was first put on it I lost 25 pounds. Then as my body adjusted to it the weight loss has stopped. I just has my dosage increased about a week ago and have lost an additional 5 pounds since then.... Topamax is a anti-convulsant and is used in Bipolar patients as an off-label med....
Avatar f tn So I have been diagnosed by two different psychiatrists the first said bipolar II the second cyclomania. Also been diagnosed with ADHD but cannot take meds for it because of bipolar. Or maybe I am just bipolar and was misdiagnosed...anyways I have irritability, anger, mild depression, hypomania, am very figity, have sleeping problems...
Avatar n tn The side effects sound too common and worrying although there are others who say it was a miracle for them. I suppose you could always stop it if it is going wrong but I agree Aeroquel would be far better. I'm on Seroquel now but need to change in about a month. Seroquel has been excellent for me. I really, really hate going on new meds, especially when there seems to be either good or bad coming. Not a risk we should have to take is it?
Avatar f tn i was on abilify for a short time but i took it with another medication as well. My side effects were mainly just super groggy and it actually made me more depressed. I know for me they were better alone as a downer. If i was having anxiety issues they would help me calm down quick. I no longer take them because they just make me spaced out and groggy.
569043 tn?1216845586 Hi, I have been diagnosed with Manic Bipolar Disorder and I am currently taking Abilify. I was simply wondering if this prescription can possibly affect the patterns of a menstrual cycle??
790165 tn?1268836968 Temporary movement disorders and weight gain are standard side effects of antipsychotics such as Abilify but they are effective mood stabilizers. Anti-depressents can often worsen bipolar. Most often used mood stabilizers are lithium, Depakoate and Lamictal. I personally found Lamictal the most tolerable and it worked well on rapid cycling but each person reacts differently. There are websites linked up about the different available options for mood stabilizers.
