abilify

Avatar m tn Have also just went from taking cymbalta and abilify to the effexor and abilify, but went off the abilify because of the weight gain. Dr wanted me to try wellbutrin and go off the effexor, but don't think it was working. Now I'm really confused on what works. For a couple days of being off the wellbutrin and on 150 of effexor i fealt great. But 3 days later i feel horible again.
447130 tn?1225470866 I just went back on Abilify since Geodon sent me into another world. I took it before and it worked but I gained weight so they took me off. I can't remember how long it was before it started to make a dent in my BP. I've been manic and this is the 1st time this has happened. Maybe it was the meds? I'm scared because I'm technically not medicated until the Abilify kicks in. Anyone know from experience?
2010625 tn?1329372056 I have taken Abilify before and it didn't seem to do anything. I took Seroquel and had to stop it for side effects. I took Geodon a very long time ago but don't remember how it effected me. I wish I didn't have all these side effects with the Risperdal it is working well for me otherwise.
Avatar f tn I see that you are taking Abilify. How long have you been taking it? My doctor wanted me to go on this med, but after reading the side effects I was afraid to. I used to be on Triavil when I was younger and the Abilify lists some of the same side effects i.e. tardive dyskinesia, involuntary movements, weight gain, high sugar. Have you had any of these side effects?
Avatar m tn I am 52 years old, and for years and years I couldnt understand as to why my moods shifted from good to bad within an hour to two at a time. Feelings of great joy, then boom, feelings of sadness.I used to self medicate with opiates to try to soften things up, but it just made things worse. Went to psych and was diagnosed with bi polar disorder. I am now on 20 mg of lexapro and 5 mg of abilify.
Avatar m tn I took Abilify and Effexor (seperately) as well, Abilify was the last drug aimed at controling my largely depressive BP. It made me feel blah, less deeply depressed, but it gave me the rare side effect of blurred vision! It was taking a dosage of Effexor which gave me my first flamingly manic episode and caused me to be rediagnosed from severe depression to BP.
1255530 tn?1269867619 I found Lamictal to be the most effective for mixed states but each person responds differently to each medication. Abilify was activating for me but other people I know found it to be of help. I don't know if your specific reaction was to Abilify or if you have had that reaction to other antipsychotics as well.
Avatar f tn I am getting tired already tho and having back/ hip pain so hoping I can last that long at work. Work as long as I your body will let you.
Avatar f tn So, now it has been a bit of time. Has it begun to work for you? How is it going? I think that is one that will work pretty quickly. You may need a dose adjustment if it is not. Let me know how it is going!
7540527 tn?1401187758 and even medications in the same class can work for someone when the previous one they tried did not. So, I would try to work with your doctor to get the right fit medication for YOU. It really can be trial and error to get the best fit. Keep tring hon. And to be fair. a trial of a drug does take time. 6 to 8 weeks is a fair trial unless side effects are unbearable. Let us know how the psych appointment goes!!!
1564087 tn?1308947518 I've been on effexor xr for years, and recently added abilify. I've been diagnosed with major depression and generalized anxiety, but I think I have bipolar II due to episodes of hypomania. Anyway, I haven't been on abilify very long (a month or so), but I have not noticed any side effects. Possibly excitability, but I am not sure. I switched my dose from the prescribed qhs to qam.
4592241 tn?1359813138 My point was to be careful about what you put in your body, I'm not against antidepressants at all. The above is my personal story and as I stated each individual is different. That said here is a link to an article about abilify and its 30% rate of causing diabetes after long term use. It's not a joke it's Forreal and to be taken seriously. It also has other serious side effects like the ones I experienced. http://www.glopc.
Avatar n tn My husband has been battling depression for almost 3 years now. We are newlyweds and are just looking for something that will finally do the trick so that we can enjoy being newlyweds before that phase has passed. He started out on 10mg of Lexapro in October of 2006. It was WONDERFUL for about 6 months until his body got used to it. When he went back to his doctor they switched him to a low does of Effexor. It made him very sick and nearly suicidal.
526901 tn?1216334227 I have just started taking Abilify, first 5mg for a week then 10mg. My arms muscles and neck feel like they want to move to alieviate some kind of aching. I have the figits. A brightening from depression indeed has happened, more energy and mental alertness, but this ache twitching and feeling agitated is ruining the beneficial effects. Does this twitching ease off and if so after how long? Seems it doesn't by what I read, so I may reduce to 2.5mg , a quarter of my 10mg tablet.
407790 tn?1397761026 Usually, medications like Abilify are used as a supplemental medication, in addition to an antidepressant one is already taking. The idea is for the Abilify to help the AD work a little bit better. Are you on an AD now, if so, which one, and what's your dose? If you can share a little bit more about your history, we can advise you a little bit better.
Avatar f tn I was supposed to start on 10 mg of Abilify, but my doctor decided to start me at 5 mg at night with the Cymbalta and Valium. I haven't noticed any changes except for extreme tiredness. I can't seem to get enough sleep. I know that the Abilify causes you to be sleepy, but most of the medications do that until they get in your system. I'm sure my doctor will increase the Abilify in the next two weeks.
1696867 tn?1312609591 My question is, how long do I need to put up with the side effects? It is effecting my home and work life ( I have even had to go part time - just can't function). I want to feel "stable", but to what extent should if ruin the rest of my life?
Avatar f tn If I happen to begin to get anxious, I can either swallow or place one under my tongue...it does work. The only side effects I get from the Ativan is it does make my sleepy. As for the two other medications, I don't really think I had any side effects from either. I honestly cannot recall since I've been on the medications for almost seven years now. I do tell anyone who listens to stay far away from Abilify.
Avatar f tn By the way, when you're on a drug combination that is working well for you, it's important to realize the new drug might not work. Nothing else might work. 15 pounds over that long a period of time is a pretty small weight gain -- I gained 50 pounds in the years I was on Paxil and many people have even larger ones. It's possible that dietary changes and increased exercise might work -- no guarantee, many people gain weight not matter what. I did.
1565420 tn?1304572548 This is an old post, so you might want to start a new one. No, it doesn't cause thyroid problems, but all antidepressants can cause weight gain -- it's one of the most common side effects. What you're describing is a possible auto-immune disorder called Hashimoto's, but it sounds like the diagnosis isn't final yet.
Avatar m tn I switched to HempPaste last week and I feel amazing! But I want to come off my prescriptions. Any ideas how to decrease dosage until I’m off them completely? My doctor is against marijuana as a treatment and isn't being helpful at all.
Avatar f tn Yes Ability is FDA approved for use as a mood stabilizer but each person responds differently to each medication. If it is helping him thats whats important but regardless of which medication is used a psychiatrist needs to monitor it as to a person's response and how it is helping them and any other concerns.
Avatar f tn My pdoc returned my call this morning and she agreed for me to try abilify again. Turns out I was on 120mg Propranalol, not 20mg. She's increasing the dose to 120mg twice a day. I need to keep an eye on my blood pressure, dizziness etc. I'm cautiously optimistic and happy that she's willing to work with me. I'll post my results on here.
