Common Questions and Answers about Abilify how long before it works

abilify

447130 tn?1225470866 I just went back on Abilify since Geodon sent me into another world. I took it before and it worked but I gained weight so they took me off. I can't remember how long it was before it started to make a dent in my BP. I've been manic and this is the 1st time this has happened. Maybe it was the meds? I'm scared because I'm technically not medicated until the Abilify kicks in. Anyone know from experience?
Avatar m tn have only been on effexor 150 for a few days. not working yet.
642393 tn?1227032656 I went to the doc about an hour ago and he gave me effexor and Abilify i know nothing about it could you plz tell me about it? are they any side effects? Does it help and how long does it take to start helping??
Avatar m tn I took Abilify and Effexor (seperately) as well, Abilify was the last drug aimed at controling my largely depressive BP. It made me feel blah, less deeply depressed, but it gave me the rare side effect of blurred vision! It was taking a dosage of Effexor which gave me my first flamingly manic episode and caused me to be rediagnosed from severe depression to BP.
Avatar f tn But my doctors suggested to take the abilify at night before you go to bed. Hope that helps a little.
571167 tn?1223214465 def seroquel. Abilify can cause long term brain and muscle effects that are irreversible. . Read up on abilify withdrawl. Good luck!
Avatar f tn To those who have switched from one antipsychotic to Abilify how did you find it worked comparitively. To anyone who is on it, would you suggest taking it? How has it helped you? I ask because I am on Ziprexa (Geodone in the US) and it causes me some agitation.
440120 tn?1211724496 I take Abilify and it had less side effects than the Geodon I took before it. It did cause me to gain weight however and doesn't work as good as the Geodon did in some aspects but works better in others. Abilify disrupts my sleep as well much like ILADVOCATE experienced but it also sedates me at the same time.
569026 tn?1216982293 I have mixed stat bipolar I so it works great for me. Give it a go, you will know within a few weeks, Abilify kicks in quick. Well it did for me! I love not "swinging" anymore and I feel stable most of the time. I get a little down here and there, but for the most part I am leading a normal life now. Good luck.
4592241 tn?1359813138 Wellbutrin did NOTHING for me, at all. I do have personal experience with that. I do not have first hand experience with the Abilify but my mom takes and one of my ex's took it and it works miracles for them. I hope it works for you, just give it a chance, it may take a little while. Don't really know how the therapeutic effects will be while you are coming off the sub, if I read that right. However when it starts working, it will take the edge off of the depression.
Avatar f tn Nobody can tell you, including your psychiatrist, how long this will last -- it could end tomorrow or last for months. Who knows? We react differently, and we react differently to different meds. And again, you might be suffering side effects of the Lamictal -- most meds for mental illness take a few weeks before they start working but side effects start right away. The only way to know for sure is to finish the taper off of a med before starting another. It's your choice, in the end.
585414 tn?1288941302 I am also on Seroquel and it works really well for me, aside from a massive weight gain and being groggy. I have found so far that the new antisychotics add on to my exsisting anxiety, and causes me to have very severe symptoms. I too am pleased with the Seroquel, but I would like to see if Abilify helps, I just dont want to go through the terrible reaction I have had with the new meds.
1806584 tn?1316208037 Hi, I'm bipolar I and have been on antipsychotics for little over a year now. Within a few weeks I'll be tapering off Abilify with the help of my pdoc. I'm happy about it, but I still wonder what your experiences have been with lamotrigine (Lamictal) as a monotherapy for bipolar I. I'd really hate to get manic again, but I also feel that Abilify is holding me back in my studies. Any tips and suggestions?
Avatar f tn Are you saying you were put on Abilify before you were put on Celexa? Because if you've only been on Celexa a few days, Abilify wouldn't be appropriate. It's only a last resort medication because of its side effect profile and because it isn't known to work by itself, only in combination with another med. If, for example, you have depression, and you're on medication and its helping but not quite enough and you've tried everything else, that's what Abilify is for.
Avatar n tn I stopped Abilify on my own, my doctor doesnt know it. Does it mean my testosterone has become too low and if its the case what do I do about it? Does it mean Im stuck with ed for good and I need pills for it? Hope someone can help me. Thanks.
5544493 tn?1369608788 ve tried Abilify at age 12, not supposed to use it under age 18; so it did not exactly work right. Seroquel? Abilify again? Lamotrigine? Carbamazepine? Others or generics of any of them?
Avatar f tn Some say it does.
Avatar m tn Take wellbutrin as it is prescribed to be taken - every day. Then make a judgement about whether it works, rather than creating a half idea that it doesn't work, but you didn't give it a chance to, but you would like to try something else because the new drug might work better. I am not trying to be nasty but you are need to think about what you are doing and what you expect to get out of the drug.
1221258 tn?1267542429 Good luck on your new cocktail though, I hope it works well!! It all affects us differently. You should talk to your pdoc regarding any concerns.
