The irritability and moods is a common side effect of taking antidepressants, any of them, depending on the person, and more so with the more stimulating ones. Abilify is a drug with a lot of side effects and not a great record of success in trials, and was approved only when all other antidepressants hadn't worked. But some have found it a useful drug to add a small amount to another drug that is working but not completely.

Wellbutrin gave me an allergic reaction, I was itching constantly from the inside out. But that's just me, most antidepressant give me some kind of allergic reaction. I would be cautious about ability though, read about the drugs side effects and long term use effects. It's different for each individual but when I was on abilify it stiffened my facial and neck muscles, slurred my speech and caused me to drool and have severe head aches.

Don't know what the doc is thinking here, and by that I mean the doc who responded to your question. For one thing, he never asked about using anti-depressants if you're truly bi-polar. Now, if this is just the oh so popular bipolar 2 or 3 or 100 that pharmaceutical companies invented, then okay, but if you're truly bipolar, you're on the wrong meds altogether.

I have recently been reading about the blood sugar issue. My son is taking seroquel now but as he is not diabetic, I have no idea what it is doing to his blood sugar. He's also currently on a very low dose of 12.5. I guess it mostly makes him sleepy and unfortunately, too sleepy as he doesn't like it. I like it because it gets him to stay asleep all night but with severe depression, I know it's probably not doing anything for mood at that dose.

The main concern about taking these two meds together is that Abilify(an anti-psychotic) can increase the side effects of Wellbutrin. However, I currently take both these meds to treat my bipolar disorder, but I believe the dose I'm taking for Abilify(7.5 mgs a day) is low enough not to cause too much interaction. Of course people react differently to all meds so this may not be the case in your situation.

im so upset, my dr put me on abilify in september with my effexor, my libido got very low and i wasnt able to come, now the dr is taking me off effexor and abilify and put me on celexa...now my libdo is completely gone and i cant come at all....it was the only thing i had left i was able to enjoy, i could always get in the mood and able to come fast and at least 2 times, now it just hurts and i dont want to do it....is this from the celexa?

It has been weight neutral for me. You can always ask your doctor about side effects and any worries you have about a drug. You have the right to informed consent to treatment, which means that they should tell you enough that you understand enought to make a reasonable decision about it. Pharmacists will also answer med questions for free if you just walk in, especially if you filled the med at their pharmacy.

t know if it was because it helped me feel better and I ate more, or just a side effect, but I did do a few things that actually helped me to lose weight while I was on it. First, the weight gain motivated me to look at how I eat, which was not good. I did nothing drastic except I decided to bring a lunch to work vs. go out more often. Then, I decided to join the gym and keep up with a regular exercise plan. I know it sounds overly simplistic, but it worked for me.

Hi all - I was diagnosed bipolar 9/10..I'm 45 year old woman and there is lots of family history of mental illness on both sides. I was on prozac for 4-5 years for depression. my new physc put me on lamictal..once i went up to 200mg i felt very very spacey so i am back down to 150. about 5 weeks ago she took me off my prozac and on lithium. I started at 300mg then moved up to 600mg..at that dose i was getting very severe nausia. then last week on tues i started to cry and could not stop..

When a person starts a medication often the side effects are at their worst at first and a person is better able to tolerate the medication over time. However you should let your psychiatrist know about these side effects. Nausea could potentially be prevented by taking a medication with food if your psychiatrist says that would work out.

Wellbutrin in very stimulating and in another class of antidepressants. Suspect there would be less sexual side effects and weight gain, but others will have to weigh in on it. It never helped me; just amplified the anxiety to point I had to have Soma to relax tight muscles. My thoughts are to stick with Effexor if you can. It won't make you more anxious. Three days is just not long enough to know what is going on. Let your doc know how you feel.

It works great and has few side effects! However, Lexapro is dangerous for people who have bi polar disorder. It can have the tendancy to make you manic. While I was on Lexapro, I was wired and agitated all the time. So try a different anti depressant. Remeron is great esp for sleep. But, I've also heard Wellbutrin is great...and doesn't make you gain weight...so give that a try. Good luck to you.

I just was put on Abilify two weeks ago after a cold-turkey drop in my Geodon (why the Doc did it this way I don't know). I was manic as Hell and very short-tempered, verbally abusive, and impatient for about a week whichh is TOTALLY unlike me.. I'm now into week two and the side efects have lessened greatly, but they are still there to some extent. I was initially put on 10mg and after complaing to the Doc, she bumped me up to 15mg. No weight gain.

They put her on Lithium and then added abilify a week later. The abilify gave her horrible side effects and I never want to see my daughter in that condition again! I detest the drug Abilify. It is a reckless drug in my opinion. I have been prescribed Lamictal now for 3 years. It is the right med for me. I am not on the floor with depression and do not gain weight. I wish some could challenge their docs.

Then make a judgement about whether it works, rather than creating a half idea that it doesn't work, but you didn't give it a chance to, but you would like to try something else because the new drug might work better. I am not trying to be nasty but you are need to think about what you are doing and what you expect to get out of the drug.

I had problems on Lamictil, it caused me migraines and suicidal ideations so I quit it. I am on Wellbutrin and Abilify now and they are working together very well. I no longer have symptoms of being bipolar! I LOVE LOVE abilify. It balanced my sleep patterns again and I feel so much better on it. It is great for mixed state bipolar, which I am. I had side effects in the beginning and started on 5mg. I am now on 10mg and doing quite well.

t figure out what is going on. I am on Wellbutrin and am a recovering alcoholic (over a year clean) and have slowly been remembering past trauma from childhood. Could all of this be connected? Please help!
