Avatar m tn A male lower abdominal hernia? I am no doctor, paramedic and I am no longer a combat lifesaver. I work around a lot of steel. At times I have to hand pull 400 foot lengths of cable threw that steel. The big cables weigh in at least 5 pounds per foot. So a lot of people around me tend to get a hernia in the same place amoungst all the other straining injuries. I have also got a straining injury myself, from not wearing the proper underwear of all things.
Avatar f tn The medicine has caused diarrhea which I believe has aggravated an abdominal hernia I have had for several years lying there minding its own business. The hernia has been outpouching and hardening to the size of my fist. Does this mean I need surgery?
1716412 tn?1308848033 this is unlikely to be a hernia and seems more like an abdominal fat deposition. This can also be caused by enlargement of the underlying abdominal structures. Abdominal hernias generally tend to be smaller swellings which may or may not be reducible, with partially defined margins that increase with increased abdominal pressure like during coughing etc. In case of an abdominal hernia, I would not suggest exercising the region for fear of complications like strangulation.
Avatar f tn I have sharp abdominal pain to the right of my abdomen about 3 fingers width. It has been there for months and I mainly feel it upon touch. Lately I've felt bloated. I saw an obgyn and ovaries and uterus have been ruled out. My pcp wants to send me for a CT scan of the abdomen. Is she thinkining hiatal hernia possibly caught early?? I am thin, don't always eat the best, not pregnant (my son is 8) . She says its in the area of the ileocecal valve.
Avatar f tn I need gallbladder surgery in the near future. I have abdominal meshing and want to know if they can do laproscopic surgery on me or not. ANYONE have my issue?
Avatar f tn I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!
Avatar m tn Abdominal hernia, caused by an abnormality or weakness in the abdominal wall... Have a surgery consult... Blood flow to that part of intestine that herniates could be impeded, resulting to that area of intestine dying... Avoid straining and lifting heavy objects...
Avatar n tn What if you have had hernia surgery already? Can you do situps then? I had hernia surgery Jan 23 2009 and now I have mesh around my whole abdomen.
Avatar f tn Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.
Avatar m tn Lost 20 kg and loses weight, returns eating, diarrhea and nausea. The weakening of the body. Some time ago the operation resection of the colon. All medical checkups made after Surgery correct. No presence of cancer, morphology correct, all good. Loud bowel movements. Can not eat because of still vomitting He got different medicines but no better No inflammation regarding on the number of white blood cells and leukocytes. Tomography fine. Xray too.
Avatar f tn I have had a large abdominal hernia since last year after having some surgery. I went to see a surgeon about it in December 2011, he said that I needed alot of mesh with the repair as I have had several abdominal surgeries and he thinks it best to reinforce some of my abdominal walls. I am a little hesitant about the mesh as I have heard some horror stories about developing infection from the mesh. What do you think?
Avatar n tn For an operation to be successful the cause of hernia has to be eliminated—abdominal muscle stress as in lifting heavy weights, constipation, cough, muscle weakness etc. It is advisable to first eliminate the cause and then go for surgery. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn After I had hernia surgery Surrey I was told not to do anything that could prevent by recovery.
1216794 tn?1266506453 Ok, that is not possible he can see the original surgeon. I too believe the hernia has reoccured; not uncommon. I am not too sure about the "shot to deaden the nerves." I have never heard of that; not that it doesn't exist. Are the surgeons specialized in abdominal surgery? What is he taking for the pain at this point? Any images of his abdomen obtained? I would be cautious about this shot they are recommending for your husband.
Avatar n tn t think it is a hernia. I just had a hernia repaired and this is what it is. It is a hole in the abdominal wall that your intestines are trying to push through. although you are likely to have a hernia at the site of a opening for surgery it sounds like you have an infrcted puss bubble and really need to go back to the doctor to have them check it out!
Avatar n tn s pain, and that the large, sliding hiatal hernia also discovered (and repaired) during the same surgery may be the culprit. At any rate, my husband's pain level is just as bad, if not worse, since the surgery. My question is, if the veins past the stenosis look healthy, does this absolutely mean a stent would have no effect? Thanks.
Avatar f tn I had hernia surgery a year ago, not too long after the surgery i realized that it was back. I didn't think anything about it, but the past month I have had really bad pain, worse pain than when I got it fixed the first time. The doctor just used permanent sutures the first time, is there any way that I could have this surgery without having to have the mesh screen put in this time? Also, my abdominal muscles are separated pretty bad, could I ask the general surgeon about diastasis repair?
Avatar m tn i have to undergo laser surgery. one year back i had undergone hernia (rt inguinal) surgery. i want to know that is there any problem in carrying out kidney stone surgery now. in any way is it related?
Avatar m tn I just had my umbilical hernia surgery 2.5 weeks ago with mesh. If you have the surgery without mesh you could have another hernia as your putting strain down below and it could come through another weak point. It also can get bigger and quite ugly. It is your intestines that you are pushing and squishing back into your body. It's amazing how much we use stomach. Anything you do while working out, you will use your stomach muscles. A support belt would help you out.
Avatar m tn Bottom line I went into get gallbladder removed now I need OPEN Hernia surgery to repair inguinal hernia. (My internist agrees the gas probably pushed the hernia out. Painful bulge, burns sometimes, but seems to go back in when I sleep and pops out next day.) Can gas cause this and if my surgeon read prior scans (he didnt) what could have been done differently. I am sure I am not the first patient to have suffered from gas-induced hernia.
Avatar n tn This did not hold and in 2007 I once again had the abdominal hernia repaired, but this time Mesh was use. My hernia was quite large. And my doctor described my mucsles as swiss cheese. There were quite a few holes, with the biggest one being the size of a baseball. I am in my mid 40's and I am a bit overweight. Since my surgery I have gained about 10-13 pounds. Last week the hernia sight began to hurt. Not a sharp pain, but dull. And my girlfrind noticed that it once again is sticking out.
Avatar n tn I suggest that you discuss with your surgeon regarding definitive means of addressing this problem such as repairing the abdominal hernia through surgery, so that future fluid accumulations can be prevented. Also, this abdominal defect may harbor intestinal contents, and aspirating it will not be a good idea since bowels may be hit and punctured. Regards and God bless.
