hernia-surgery

Avatar m tn A male lower abdominal hernia? I am no doctor, paramedic and I am no longer a combat lifesaver. I work around a lot of steel. At times I have to hand pull 400 foot lengths of cable threw that steel. The big cables weigh in at least 5 pounds per foot. So a lot of people around me tend to get a hernia in the same place amoungst all the other straining injuries. I have also got a straining injury myself, from not wearing the proper underwear of all things.
Avatar f tn Hi, 6 years ago i had my 2nd child and developed an umbilical hernia, which i had surgery for the repair. I now have had a 3rd baby - 5 months now- and have the umbilical hernia has returned.
Avatar f tn My doctor suspects I have a hernia, a complication from having a large cyst, ovary and tube removed in May. I will need surgery to repair. Anyone else experience this? I'd appreciate your experiences and thoughts on recovery time, when I can return to work (I'm a preschool teacher), length of surgery, etc. Thanks!
Avatar m tn After I had hernia surgery Surrey I was told not to do anything that could prevent by recovery.
329994 tn?1301663248 I tried to eat solid food and that has not set well on my stomach, very nauseous, so I am gone back to drinking Boost, eating soup, soft foods and that sets better on my stomach, but does not produce a bowel movement. Is this normal after surgery and will it just take more time. I also have a hiatel hernia and take Prilosec 20mg/day. Thank you for any help.
478868 tn?1209031705 Hi Gail, As a nurse in the recovery room, I see incisional hernias all the time. The hernia develops from a weakness in the wall of the muscle that was cut for your original surgery. Alot of times if it is bothersome or large enough, they will take you back to surgery, may place some mesh against the muscle to reinforce it and it can be day surgery. Most can do it laparoscopically, so less recovery time in the hospital.
Avatar f tn The medicine has caused diarrhea which I believe has aggravated an abdominal hernia I have had for several years lying there minding its own business. The hernia has been outpouching and hardening to the size of my fist. Does this mean I need surgery?
Avatar f tn Get an abdominal scan done such as an ultrasound to rule out any hernia. I doubt if it is a hernia till diagnosed. Rule out gastric acidity issues, follow up with a gastroenterologist. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, A bit of background...I have a 7-8cm cyst on my left ovary. CA125 of 10, ultrasound shows no sign of a malignancy, so they are not too concerned about that. Dr. I was seeing wasn't confident in doing a cyst this size laparoscopically so he referred me to another Dr who is apparently an "expert" in removing large cysts like this by "bagging" it and removing it that way through the tiny incision instead of having open surgery.
Avatar f tn It's possible you have a pre-existing hiatal hernia and the abdominal exercises 'uncovered' the problem. If someone has a hiatal hernia, any form of exercise that elevates pressures in the abdominal area presses upward on the stomach and that unfortunately allows the acidic contents of the stomach toward the esophagus. Unless the hiatal hernia is very problematic, the treatment for it is usually conservative - a change in lifestye, change in diet and meds to control acid reflux.
Avatar m tn Come to find out, I did have a ingual (SP?) hernia. Surgery/recovery was a breeze. It definately helped get rid of that pain. Now if I could only get rid of the adbominal pain.
Avatar f tn I'm still recovering from emergency abdominal surgery. I'm so thankful I don't feel any of the pain I felt previously. What I do feel is my little peanut. He is so active. I really believe that hernia surgery helped him to have more room. I'm so thankful for every little kick even if it is at 5 am. Well I'm off work for two weeks so he can kick all he wants. I love him so much.
Avatar f tn s a relatively easy surgery that is performed by professionals hundreds of times a week. The recovery time is short and the surgery only takes about 30 minutes, with minimal scarring.
Avatar n tn What if you have had hernia surgery already? Can you do situps then? I had hernia surgery Jan 23 2009 and now I have mesh around my whole abdomen.
Avatar n tn Hi aliparkone, If she has undergone a laparoscopic surgery, the recovery time is faster. She can go home in 2-3 days. She might have pain at the surgery site for which pain killers can be taken.Generally a semi-solid diet is presribed from the 2nd or 3rd day during the first week. If the semi-solid diet is tolerated well, then other foods can be slowly introduced. This usually takes 2-3 weeks.Complete recovery takes 2-3 weeks.
Avatar f tn 5 weeks is considerable time for recovery for a small bowel surgery. However, a major surgery may require more time. Do also let me know if you think that there may be some psychological problems that you may be facing.
Avatar f tn I have sharp abdominal pain to the right of my abdomen about 3 fingers width. It has been there for months and I mainly feel it upon touch. Lately I've felt bloated. I saw an obgyn and ovaries and uterus have been ruled out. My pcp wants to send me for a CT scan of the abdomen. Is she thinkining hiatal hernia possibly caught early?? I am thin, don't always eat the best, not pregnant (my son is 8) . She says its in the area of the ileocecal valve.

Avatar f tn I have had a large abdominal hernia since last year after having some surgery. I went to see a surgeon about it in December 2011, he said that I needed alot of mesh with the repair as I have had several abdominal surgeries and he thinks it best to reinforce some of my abdominal walls. I am a little hesitant about the mesh as I have heard some horror stories about developing infection from the mesh. What do you think?
Avatar m tn ve had a hydrocele surgery at the age of six, left side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 10, and a right side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 24. My right testicle have been attached closer to my body since my hydrocele surgery and I can clearly remember how uncomfortable it felt to have such an abnormal position of your testicle. After 20 years, I still feel some discomforting pains (on my right testicle) when exercising.
Avatar m tn Abdominal hernia, caused by an abnormality or weakness in the abdominal wall... Have a surgery consult... Blood flow to that part of intestine that herniates could be impeded, resulting to that area of intestine dying... Avoid straining and lifting heavy objects...
Avatar f tn I had hernia surgery a year ago, not too long after the surgery i realized that it was back. I didn't think anything about it, but the past month I have had really bad pain, worse pain than when I got it fixed the first time. The doctor just used permanent sutures the first time, is there any way that I could have this surgery without having to have the mesh screen put in this time? Also, my abdominal muscles are separated pretty bad, could I ask the general surgeon about diastasis repair?
Avatar n tn This can be repaired through surgery. Recovery time varies depending on the size of the hernia, the technique used, age and presence of underlying medical condition. However, a hernia can recur up to several years after repair. I hope this helps. Avatar n tn s pain, and that the large, sliding hiatal hernia also discovered (and repaired) during the same surgery may be the culprit. At any rate, my husband's pain level is just as bad, if not worse, since the surgery. My question is, if the veins past the stenosis look healthy, does this absolutely mean a stent would have no effect? Thanks.
