FYI ... situps, crunches, push ups, pulls ups, squats, calf-raises, and dips are all considered calisthenics.
Avatar n tn When I did crunches I always put my fingertips behind my ears without any pressure. Your abs should be the only thing working your body during an ab routine. So definitely try again but maybe try a more recent workout. There's a GREAT ab workout routine at s park p eople (no spaces) and the trainer will talk to you about how to do them without straining your neck. Good luck!
Avatar f tn And be careful about many ab exercises, since many can cause back problems later on. In fact, most crunches work the lower back as hard as they do the abs, and all that twisting can be a strain. Not that anyone knows how to best work the abs, though, as far as I can tell. For six pack abs, quite frankly, most who have them don't get them through exercise -- it's a sure sign of steroid use, since the belly should have some fat.
Avatar f tn I love the pitates leg workout for the calves (learned through a video I know bad!!!) but I really think that it worked my calves as if I didn't do them regularly it killed my legs (in a wonderful love hate kinda way) I will look into the classes. I don't know if they have any around but I know I did the leg calf and the weight about the head (shaving) and I remember those I do them in my workout.
Avatar f tn Jogging a mile every other day, crunches and some ab workout videos. Also started a plank challenge around the same time. After a few days, my stomach was sore to be expected but since then, I've been getting these weird stomach cramps that lasted a few days. All day yesterday, my stomach felt fine until I jogged a mile at lunch. About an hour later, my stomach feels tight right under my navel and there is this consistent dull ache.
Avatar m tn Was burning 500 cals on threadmill and was was doing doing some weight training like biceps, wings, triceps, ab crunches, squats, planks over the 6 days along with cardio everyday. I had pain in my lower calf muscles and so I am sticking with the elliptical and burning 600 cals in elliptical. I aim at burning 450 cals each day on cardio and so hit 600 which i think the machine over-estimates. I believe 600 may equal to 450 actual. I was 175 lbs and have got to 162.
Avatar f tn Running, tennis, kickboxing and rowing all use the core to stabilize the upper body during the workout. The abs engage, and at the same time get stronger and more defined. Doing ab exercises is the best way to sculpt the six-pack. While the rectus abdominus is the muscle that forms the washboard look, you don't want to ignore the other muscles, especially the internal and external obliques, which are used in rotation.
446650 tn?1257611215 Are you feeling better now and carry on with the abdominal work out or do you get the spotting still? Hope you would have consulted the doctor regarding the same and can you update of the adivce and if any other cause for it? You may continue the gym but avoid over exerting yourself, particularly with the increased abodminal pressure. A gentle massage and steam bath at the end of session would be comforting. Do warm up stretches for a few minutes before you go on actuals.
Avatar f tn I had the sharp pains in my 2nd trimester without exercising much. Its the ligaments stretching and i think my little bub was kicking a nerve. I didnt have pressure. Email or call your doc just in case.
Avatar f tn Firstly this wouldn't be to lose or keep off weight or look skinny but for only health reasons and staying active. You might have gotten confused over the usage of the word "ab". You should exercise while you are pregnant regardless leg work outs and walks yoga ect. All of which work your abdominal muscles. My question was mainly about doing light crunches and or sit ups. Obviously none of you actually know.
Avatar n tn before one can take up exercises that work specifically around the abdomen region like ab-crunches, leg lifts, side-crunches etc. You may like to join a gym or aerobics for the same. It is also essential to rotate between various exercise regimens like swimming, biking, jogging, aerobics etc. One must also understand that nothing works like magic and the toning may take a few months to be visible. Hope this was useful. Take care!
Avatar m tn No matter how many ab exercises you do, it won't show until the layer of fat is gone. Crunches and flutter kicks may give you six pack and but they won't show. Cardio helps burn fat and will remove that layer right off your belly. Anything that can get you heart pumping is cardio so make it fun! Dance fast to an upbeat song. Do jumping jacks. Run in place or just run. Look up at home cardio workouts for some fun ideas. Zumba is a great cardio workout.
Avatar f tn Some exercises include leg raises, jacknifes, Swiss ball side crunches, side bends, Swiss ball crunches and hanging leg raises. The Swiss ball will use more ab muscles. Do each one of the exercises consecutively for 15 to 20 reps with no rest in between. Then take a 60-second break and do them all again. Repeat the whole circuit four to six times. Perform cardiovascular training three times a week every other day. Some examples are running, biking, stair stepping, swimming and rowing.
Avatar m tn I usually do 3-4 sets of crunches and 3-4 sets of hanging knee raises, 2-3 times per week. I let the dieting and the cardio work do the rest. Both of them combined help me eliminate all the unwanted body fat that's covering up the cuts in my abs.
266539 tn?1281402152 3 minutes fast paced walk, 4 minutes jumping rope (20 seconds straight with 10 second intervals of rest), then running 3 minutes, then 3 minutes on the eliptical machine (you can substitute that for 3 minutes of continuous ab crunches) then back to 4 minutes of jumping rope. That in itself is 20 minutes. Since you are constantly switching your exercise you very rarely get bored of it and trust me when I tell you that you will be worn out! Hope this helps!

6903444 tn?1385943346 Thanks for the tip about crunches. I would have probably tried it.
Avatar n tn I could not do crunches without feeling the pressure, I know that. I just had surgery again two weeks ago to remove scar tissue on the retina, I developed a macular pucker from the detachment. I'm on full restrictions again, I love to take Pilates classes and I won't be allowed to for at least 2 months and then only if my doctor says it's ok, he said I couldn't swim for a month either. I know it's hard to have limitations but don't risk it.
1577722 tn?1310624684 After being told about my hernia I have been afraid to workout and gained 60 lbs. I would like to get fit again and do crunches and pretty much everything else. I'm scared that I will make the hernia worse. It doesn't stick out and only hurts when I lay a certain way. Also after I do have surgery and have the mesh in how long do I need to wait to start working out again and will I damage the mesh?
Avatar f tn I have lost 3 inches of my stomach by restricting my diet like mentioned above and also adding the ab workouts. I find it complements the rest of your workout by sort of tightening everything up as you go. It has definitely sped things up for me. Good luck!
Avatar n tn What if you stomach is making this noise when I workout first thing in the morning? I do a quick little 5 minute workout when I wake up, no hydration or food, but the noise and sensation is quite notable. When I do sit-ups I can feel the sloshing, my stomach feels like a water balloon and the noise is so loud it worries my husband. It causes a little discomfort as well. I'm 32, thin but not in good shape so this workout regimen is new.
419964 tn?1333301906 The same goes for if I just do regular crunches without the ab lounge.. Same feeling.. So I would think they work... As long as you do them correctly! Here's a link that show's the proper way to do them just to make sure (I'm sure you are doing them correctly, a friend of mine just showed me this link just so that I could double check and make sure, so thought I would pass it along!) Hope this helps! =] http://www.youtube.com/watch?
