About 5 weeks ago i got my first cold sore (unless i got em as a baby) and it came in the form of several blisters. They healed and thats that but it kills me not knowing how i got it. I hadnt kissed any one up to a month prior and i dont share drinks. Only thing i can think of is Ive always had it and never shown symptoms or someone took a swig from my cup while I wasnt looking. So my question i guess is how likely is it that Ive always had the virus vs it being recently acquired?
Hey quick question. This Saturday I felt some build up behind my upper lip like a pimple. Sunday I woke up and I had a red blotch there. I think it is because I grew my facial hair out long for the very first time, and oil and dirt accumulated on the hair because I have very oily skin which lead to that oil/dirt to clog one of the pours above my lip.
90% of people who have oral hsv1 never get a cold sore, so you can have it and never know.
Given that you tested at 5-6 weeks post-exposure (possibly), there is no way to know if this is a new infection, or one you've had for a long time. Most people will develop antibodies within 6 weeks.
So you have to figure out if it really matters (hint - it does not). Medically, it makes no difference, and emotionally, it shouldn't either.
I'm 45 years old I have had some much stuff wrong with me seizure's, severe allergies when I was young, really bad acne was on accutane, I'm probably have had a cold sore just don't remember or my husband could have a cold sore. I'm trying to think my husband did complain about burning his mouth about two weeks ago and a sore in his mouth never know an we have had oral sex since then.

Herpes has always been more prevalent than HIV. Less than 1% of the population has HIV, and about 20-25% of the population has hsv2.
In recent years, hsv2 infections are actually declining, while genital hsv1 infections are increasing.
Your article seems dated - I couldn't find a reference that was less than 10 years old. We also don't get into morality judgments here.

I know that the IgM is supposed to be worthless because it cannot differentiate between type I vs. type II, however IgM ususally means a recent infection even if it is a recurrent recent infection. I have never had a cold sore, so I havent' had a recent or recurrent HSV-1 infection. So could this mean that I have contraced HSV-2 infection?

Too often antibiotics are prescribed for a viral infection. If you don't gave a high fever, its not a bacterial infection and antibiotics are useless. But if you are feeling better, i would say don't take them. Use grandmas recepies for your throat, mike warm milk with honey. I just finished 10 days of a bad cold but did not take any medication.
Hello, I am positive for HSV1 and have been experiencing cold sore outbreaks for 20 years. I am in a monogamous relationship for one year. My partner also gets cold sores. My understanding is the antibodies from HSV 1 would probably protect me from getting HSV 1 on my genitals. I also have been battling chronic BV. My inner thighs are sensitive, some body aches and I have some itching and tiny tiny bumps that look like chicken skin but a little red.
A negative result doesn't mean you have herpes. A visual diagnosis is wrong about a 1/3 of the time on average which is why follow up blood testing is important for both of you.
did she do any other testing like testing your vaginal secretions for yeast and bacterial infections too?
I thought it was allergies, then I thought it was a cold, then I thought it was a sinus infection, but I found out that congestion is normal during pregnancy because you have more blood flow going through your body so the more blood flow in your nasal area causes the vessels to swell causing congestion. I was told by my doctor that Sudafed was safe to take, so I took it and had a very healthy pregnancy and baby, but some people will say absolutely no to take that.
i should also add that i usually dont drink too much soda, but on that friday i drank about 5-6 sodas and their was a dramatic weather change from hot to cold. i know they could play into factors of just a cold sore but im soooo scared i dont know what to do at this point. my anxiety level is so high, i cant eat or sleep ever since. im also wondering... how effective will the culture test be only 6 days after the encounter? everyone is telling me i shouldnt worry too much... but i cant help it.
However, five seconds of receiving oral sex presents a very tiny risk vs. something longer. Also, if you have ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip, even as a child, this present HSV 1 infection that you already have will likely prevent you from getting HSV 1 in a new place on your body.
Have you ever been tested for herpes antibody to determine what you did and didn't have prior to this exposure?
My son had is primary outbreak at 18 months and typically has an oral outbreak every few months - same spot on his lip 1 lesion, usually after a cold. He has had about 6 outbreaks in the last 60 days and the most recent was more than 4 lesions all over his bottom lip. Besides the zovirax ointment, which is difficult to administer since his lips are so sore, are their oral meds vs. topical that would be effective and safe?
he has no symptoms at all. I have spent countless hours searching the web and looking up symptoms of herpes vs yeast infection and have drove myself crazy. I cant seem to stop thinking about the possibility of it being herpes, ive never come in any contact with that. Also they gave me difulcan for the yeast I am not having any itching just lots & lots of discharge (white creamy, no foul smell).
If however a modulator is actually acting as a suppressant, then those with Lyme need to be aware of that fact, because suppressing the immune system in a bacterial infection should be done knowingly and with a good reason (if at all) and certainly not on an unproven premise that the treatment cannot be harmful because it is 'only' adjusting.
