Avatar f tn I'm living it right now and to be honest, I am aware of 5 to 7 steps or stages of the grief process, but they don't matter, because you survive one day at a time ....baby steps, and not time frame, since everyone heals at their own pace. It's been 2 years for me and I do feel better, but I am not yet completely healed...it takes a long time.
Avatar f tn My father is in the final stages of dementia. He can no longer hold anything or walk. He quit speaking about 4 years ago. I just was recently told that he no longer chews. This has been for about 6 weeks. His food is thickened so he can swallow it. He has lost about 20 pounds in 5 months. His albumin level is 2.7, and 2.5 is sometimes the criteria for hospice care. My question is, how much longer before he loses his ability to swallow?

Avatar m tn What you are experiencing is extremely common, and normal. When we are dealing with the loss of a loved one, it brings our own mortality into sharper focus. The death of someone we love is unquestionably, in my opinion, THE most stressful life event we must all endure. And that stress can manifest itself in countless ways, anxiety being very close to the top of the list.
Avatar m tn My mother died in my arms and I had 7 deaths in 8 months, loss my job and my beautiful dog Toby died also. Death was hanging out in my house and among my friends. I have been to hell and back on my knees and God has given me the strength to be a survivor. I have learned that death is not to be feared, why? It is part of life and we must accept what we can't change, but not fear death.
916131 tn?1318681712 m so very sorry on the untimely passing of you friend. She was very fortunate to have you. Melissa, her death was not your fault! Unfortunately, she did not have the coping skills to situations that in reality were temporarily. If she would have only held on one day at a time and one step at a time. What you are experiencing is the loss and the grief process has many stages and it will take time.

My mother also, left me jewelry and as Kerry said, I would put them away, until you are emotionally able to see them and put them on. Honor her memory with the jewelry that she wanted you to have, but only when you are read.
Avatar f tn It's been 4 years today since my mom passed away. As if it weren't enough to mourn the loss of my mom, I'm also mourning the loss of my dad who died only 9 months before my mom. He just suddenly collapsed one day, and even though the paramedics were able to "bring him back", he stayed in a coma for 3 weeks and then we lost him. I'm also mourning the loss of my twins who were born premature 26 years ago. They were born on August 24, 1983.
Avatar f tn Pronounced ascities with the patient appearing pregnant having difficulty breathing due to the retention of fluid pressing on the diaphragm or loss of appetite because of the fluid pressing on the stomach area making the patient feel full and so not hungry is a definite sign of decompensation and liver failure. A rush of having this fluid is it can suddenly become infected called SBP (spontaneous bacterial periodontitis) this can cause death from massive infection.
489286 tn?1209032321 It takes lots of time to go through the stages of grief. I also read lots of books on how others made it through and the stages you have to go through. You will make it through to the other side. However, you need to feel what you are feeling and let it all out. I MUST suggest again, the "Grief counseling group". My best to you.
Avatar m tn t know the cause of death unless a necropsy (autopsy) is done. That will only give you some closure about the cause, but you may not wish to do that for many reasons. The only consolation is your little girl did not seem to suffer very much at all at the end, and probably passed in her sleep. Blessings to her Soul.

Jumped around did her little dance played outside continued to drink a lot of water. Then 1 day she started to squint her eyes and they looked like she had a cold in them. Took her to the Vet and was told she had allergies. The Vet gave her a shot for allergies and eye medicine. She started looking better that night next day OK.

Avatar f tn When it became evident that she was in the final stages and gasping for breath they administered morphine, orally, then a suppository, then orally again. It all happened so fast but when the last dose was given I was overwhelmed. Thankfully she lived for an additional 4 hours becasue I know now that I would have had a hand in her death by giving them permission to ease her pain. But I am left was such anguish that I could have helped to end her life. How do I cope with this feeling?
Avatar n tn The patient suffers increasing insomnia, resulting in panic attacks, paranoia, and phobias. This stage lasts for about four months. Hallucinations and panic attacks become noticeable, continuing for about five months. Complete inability to sleep is followed by rapid loss of weight. This lasts for about three months. Dementia, during which the patient becomes unresponsive or mute over the course of six months. This is the final progression of the disease, after which death follows.
