Avatar f tn Hi and sorry you have this problem. We are not doctors on here but I am a microbiologist and can try to give you some advice. I think a couple of things that could be happening are: 1. that she is being reinfected from her surroundings, either at home or school etc. 2. She isn't getting a strong enough set of antibiotics to knock it out. 3. It could be colonizing (inside) her nose and reinfecting her from her nose. So, you may have already done these things but if not: 1.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm new to this site I would appreciate any information about marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) secondary to HepC infection? My partner was diagnosed with MZL in Jan 08 by surgical biopsy of a lymph node in his neck. It's a rare indolent form & most likely results from HepC infection. He has a small patch in the bone but CT scans & a PET scan revealed no other nodes in between, so is sort of stage 1 & 4 at the same time. He is 56yrs old, geno 1b, +ive for over 30 yrs.
Avatar f tn The results of the first sonogram stated right kidney 10.6 cm and lef 11cm. Mild left sided hydronephrosis and a cyst of the right renal pole 1.3 x 1.4 cm. Otherwise negative. I was told prior to this surgery that it was an incidental finding and not to worry about it at this time. The sonogram taken in the PICU seems like it is on a different kid: it states: right kidney 7.3 cm left kidney 11.2 cm. Increase in renal echogenicity bilaterally. No evidence of hydronephrosis.
Avatar n tn s and one surgery for a port ( my veins were shot) as well as a round of Zyvox pills ($82.00 a pill or $1600.00), I still tested positive. As luck and God would have it, I had been taking amoxicillian before all this happened so I thought "why not finish it, nothing else has worked". I knew when I took the amox, I had started to feel better. I talked my local PA into putting me on 8 weeks of it and low and behold, I have tested negative 2x.
Avatar m tn Good questions, but your diagnosis suggests that no one, not even your doctors and specialists have yet to figure out the root cause of your thrombocytopenia. Wishing you best of luck.
Avatar f tn The VRE came back, in my urine, and I was hospitalized again last week and put back on Zyvox (oral this time). I am also on IV clindamycin and azithromycin, and a long list of other medications. While in the hospital they did daily blood work, of course, and my results have gotten progressively worse. They told me to follow up with my pcp, but my pcp is pretty much useless. Doesn't seem to want to deal with me because I am too complicated, which has been the trend over the last few years.
Avatar f tn All of this does not happen at the same time as one swelling goes down (bumps gets bigger and harder) the other appears. Went to a clinic and the nurse said it might be mersa and recommended me to a doctor. This doctor (infectous deseases) told me it was normal. This is not normal. Cause I am freakng out with these bumps that scratches, spread and leave extra dark marks. He gave me some Bactrim to take.
Avatar f tn I called a few Hematologists, they were all confused why I was calling and I started feeling like an idiot and got very frustrated, the big change in hormones isnt helping I'm sure. I'm starting to think I need to change doctors. He has only started 1 patient on triple therapy to date and I'm losing some confidence in his competence with Hep C.
Avatar n tn My vet did a CBC and her platelet count was 13,000 and she was diagnosed with Thrombocytopenia. Her WBC count was high and absolute leukocytes were of 17,000. No other abnormalities in the RBC's and most leukocytes (inlcuding neutrophil) were unremarkable. However, very occasional neutrophlis contained large homogeneous, pale basophilic cytoplasmic inclusions.
Avatar f tn So I'm 11w+3d I'm on steroids for thrombocytopenia (low platelets) come to find out it's actually lupus.I'm scared and want to know if anyone has gone through this, this us my 3rd baby had normal everything with my other two children.don't know Y thus is happening.
Avatar m tn February 25, 2009 Abstract As discussed in this review by Maribel Rodriguez-Torres, MD, CPI, thrombocytopenia is a common finding in chronic liver disease, complicating diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures and anti-HCV therapy in many patients. Available treatment is inadequate and mostly limited to platelet transfusions with associated adverse events and complications.
Avatar n tn I found out that my Wbc and my rbc both are normal, in fact everything about my blood work was normal. The only thing that was different was my platelets were at 115,000. The Dr. Said he is having me take another test to check my platelets in 3 weeks. I show no real signs of fatigue or anything else, so someone ease my mind please!!
Avatar f tn It is hard to take care of my children and work a full time job. I am always so drained and tired. I gained a lot of weight because I was on high doses of prednisone. Has anyone experienced anything like this and can give me a guess when this will taper off? I want to lose this extra weight but feel so drained after work.
Avatar n tn the cultures and urine showed Staphylococcus epidermidis which was treated with success with vanc and zyvox. i know S. epi. is a common skin flora but i am confused as to how i was infected. Any insight?
Avatar f tn I would recommend retreating for 72 weeks and no lowering of doses! Starting the ribavirin early may help with the platelets and we have been doing that for some people as well. Wish your partner luck!
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried to supplement your Doggy with papaya leaf extract to help raise their platelets? My dog is diagnosed with immune mediated Thrombocytopenia which means his platelets is down to like zero and many bruises on him. He's been on Pred for a wk to help increase Plt but it's working slowly. I read a review at this website herbal papaya that she used on her dog n works. I would like to know if there's more info about this papaya leaf extract.
Avatar n tn Does she have any other symptoms? Some tick bourne diseases have thrombocytopenia as a symptom and it is sometimes diagnosed as the only issue and not a secondary symptom to these tick diseases. I can't remember their names but if you google canine tick disease they'll come up and give you the other symptoms. The blood test for them I think has to be sent out to a certain lab/labs by the vet. And with the prednisone, it's really hard to say until you know why it's happening.

Avatar n tn Treatment with Incivek, peg-interferon and ribavirin reduces platelet counts. When you say low that is open to intuition. What numbers do you mean by high and low. There are different levels of low platelet counts. Depending on what the numbers are tells if their is need for concern. Platelets are produced in the bone marrow, the same as the red cells and most of the white blood cells. The average lifespan of a platelet is normally just 5 to 9 days.
Avatar n tn But if you experience very frequent cramps, it is better to use something else. My husband had frequent cramps, and magnesium helped him greatly.
