689528 tn?1364135841 Our poor boy suffered until we found this new vet, every other night, we would do oatmeal baths, benedryl cream, benedryl pills, alcohol rubs, ice.. it was heartbreaking. We can totally relate. Now with one zyrtec per day, he is a new pooch! Our vet said either Zyrtec or Clariten, which ever one worked better, and was cost effective. I sincerely hope this is helpful. Good luck to you and poor itchy. P.S. - We give the same zyrtec one pill dose to our female boxer, she is 65 lbs.
Avatar f tn he’s been on prednisone and Zyrtec the prednisone clears it up after seven days but then they come right back and then he goes right back on prednisone. He has had an blood allergy test and it came back negative on everything. he has a dermatology appointment on Thursday I don’t want to put him back on prednisone again he’s gaining weight the Zyrtec does nothing and he has not been on any antibiotics.
1540112 tn?1293016134 Along with 2 benadryls every 6 hours and zyrtec. The rash went down a lil. But as soon as I quit taking the prednisone it seemed the rash got twice as bad. Went back to doc and got 10 mgs of prednisone, take 3 for 3 days, then 2 for 3 days, then one. The rash went away a lil more. Now it seems as if the rash may be coming back again. My question is will taking to small of a dose, or not taking the prednisone until the rash clears up. Will that cause the rash to come back?
Avatar f tn Has anyone experienced severe itching problems when they stop taking Zyrtec?
Avatar m tn Thanks everyone; we just got back from his doctor. After a very persistent conversation, we came home with a nebulizer, script for zyrtec & singular, as well as an appointment with a pulmonologist. Hopefully, we will find out very soon what the real problem is. My son is quite upset because the doctor has confined him to our home; no school, no church or anything else. But, if it controls the attacks; it is worth it!
Avatar n tn My 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with angioedema about 2 months ago. It started with lip swelling (like someone punched her), and whelps. My pediatrician told me that everytime her lips swelled that she was eating something that she was allergic to. She is such a picky eater that I knew when she ate the same things over and over that this couldn't be it. We took her to an allergy doctor and he did an allergy test. It basically came back normal.
Avatar f tn I woke up yesterday with my right, top outer ear (front and back) being red, a little warm swollen and itching uncontrollably. I took some Benadryl last night and it helped me sleep, but it continues to itch like crazy! What could it be and what can I do to help control the non-stop itching? Thanks!
Avatar f tn My son was diognosed with mild to moderate tracheomalacia. He is on Nasonex and Zyrtec to control post nasal drip and use Atravent as needed to help minimize cough. He has just come off 7 days of 30mg of Prednisone to treat severe coughing episode. I was told there isn't any other medication or treatment for him. Night time coughing is very bad for him. Even after coming off the prednisone and the breathing treatments don't help much. Is there nothing else that can be done.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed loratadine, hydroxyzine, 6 days of 20mgs of prednisone...the prednisone helped a little, but was back to square one after it ran out. The hydroxizine only helps if I take 30mgs at a time rather than spread out throughout the day. The loratadine seems to do nothing. I ended up back in the ER after a day of being at work and symptoms not going away after being at home. I was given a shot of 125mg of steroids and a medrol dose pack.
Avatar f tn He diagnosed me with bronchitis brought on my the sinus issue and scheduled an appointment with an allergist. Than ran the allergy test with negative results. Yes, all 58 pin pokes in the back were negative and then 17 injections under the skin of my forearms all came back negative. I have the septum surgery, that was 4 months ago. I've tried all kinds of meds to no avail. I'll list them at the end of my post.
Avatar m tn Suggested I try Claritin or zyrtec to see if allergies are triggering all of this. Claritin is helping a lot with the post nasal drip, but now the junk in my chest seems tight and I have a dry, unproductive cough. Should I try mucinex to loosen up the chest and continue with Claritin?

Avatar m tn In the past I have taken Zyrtec, Claritin, and Xyzal....Zyrtec seems to work best for me. You can get both Zyrtec and Claritin over the counter, and both come in a generic form (I take the generic form of Zyrtec). This helped my allergies tremendously, I would recommend taking one daily while your symptoms are in full-force, and then backing off to just whenever it's needed when your symptoms settle down.
Avatar n tn He took prednisone and zyrtec and benadryl to get it under control but has been off all meds since 1 month prior to all blood work. The allergist has been unable to find a cause for the hives. He has a history of seasonal allergies and some sinus infections. Can you give me some insight as to a cause for the low white blood cells and low T4? He has not been sick recently.
Avatar f tn I am also taking albuterol inhaler 4 times a day, went through a 10 day course of antibiotics, and 2 courses of prednisone, as well as zyrtec. I am still not getting relief...I am calling my doc again tomorrow. I thought for sure the Advair would knock it. My cough and wheezing just hangs on. It is a whistling, wheezing, crackling sound in my throat. It keeps me awake and is driving me crazy! This has been going on about 6 weeks now. Enough is enough. I am desperate to get relief...
Avatar f tn I recently was in the hospital with a very bad rash and edema in my arms that caused bad bruising. At first they thought it was a systemic allergic reaction, but the rash went on my palms and they decided I had some sort of virus. the rash looked like hives at times. sometimes it would be red dots and other times it would spread into large red patches. i was on prednisone for about two and a half weeks and came off it last week.
Avatar n tn I went to prompt care, were I received a steroid injection and a three week Prednisone 10mg tapper. Without relief, I sought the help of a high recommended dermatologist. Upon being seen I was given another steroid injection, Periactin 4mg/ 3x daily, Atrax 25mg/ 2 tablets up to 4x daily and Triamcinolone (topical). I also had several blood test and a chest x-ray, which all came back fine. I continued to develop giant hives daily.
681148 tn?1437661591 It seems like Akira has seasonal allergies and dust allergies in addition to her food allergies. Because I really don't want to give her long term steroids, I decided to only give her the 1/4 tablet of Zyrtec that the vet told me to give her before. I try to wait 'til I just have to give it to her, because I know that people can build up a tolerance to antihistamines, so I figure that animals can, too.
1687346 tn?1305586491 Hello and welcome to the community. I am so sorry you are going through this. I know what it is like to be on pred so much. It really isn't fun at all. I have read that accupunture may be beneficial as a complementary treatment to traditional medicine aproaches and that was from a doctor who practices integrated medicine. He is really open to non-traditional treatments even without traditional approaches.

Avatar f tn Anyway, my experience with Prednisone is that, the last time I took it, I broke out. I break out from anything, I swear! But Prednisone plays big-time on my head. I tend to go berzerk from it if I'm on it for a couple weeks. It does have side effects- and can cause side effects. Whatever you do...don't go off of it all of a sudden. You will be doing your body no good. I now have resorted to using prednisone for severe infections only- not as a pain reliever.
Avatar f tn I have 10 mg Prednisone tabs with me but the directions are to take 40 mg for angioedema and gradually decrease dosage. I know that if I take this dosage I will be up all night but am really uncertain about how much I should take. Using Aveeno to sooth the welts with minimal effect. I empathize with anyone going through this experience. Any suggestions appreciated. Am thinking of thinking an immunologist since the allergist was absolutely no health.
