Common Questions and Answers about Zyrtec vs allegra vs claritin

zyrtec

I had the allergy tests done about 4 years ago which were reactive to mold, grass and there was minimal reaction to dogs. I tried many drugs on the market. Allegra, Claritin, Benadryl... For last 3 years Zyrtec-D was working fine, not great, but tolerable. After what happened on Monday the doctor put me on Prednisone for 5 days, so inflammation definitely goes away , but palpitations are so intense I can barely go 2 flights of stairs, forget jogging.
(sorry) or if I take the steroid I can cough up huge yellow inch long mucus plugs. I take Allegra, Zyrtec, Claritin, Flonase and singular, albuterol nebs and inhaler, also famotidine 2x daily I was on advair for 2months and he said stop because it did nothing for me other than change sputum from slimy to chunky and is quite pricey for no results.
Many such as Allegra, Claritin, and Zyrtec are over the counter and also generic. They are pretty cheap to use. Costco has generic Claritin for less then $15 for around 300 pills. I find that Benadryl creme or gel is very helpful on the hives directly. If you put Benadryl on the skin don't use it orally at the same time. This also comes in generic. Maybe you would consider NAET which is an allergy elimination acupuncture?
Over the years, I've been to specialists at three medical major centers, kept food and other records, taken any number of differnet medications (Allegra, Claritin, Zyrtec, Prednisolone, Zantac, anti-depressants, anti-anxiety drugs, you name it), been tested for everything under the sun, done "food challeneges," and nothing has ever really had any lasting effect or determined what the problem actually is.
Hey everyone. I've had these rashes for about three years and I only recently started taking medications but reading these comments is making me wonder if theres a point because I've been extremelly exausted from the hydroxyz hcl. I really want this to end, it' has interfered with my life in so many different ways. I use to run and work out a lot, as I see most of you have as well, but I completely stopped because I noticed that the more I sweat, the more spots come out.
The most well tolerated initial treatment is the non-sedating antihistamine Claritin. Zyrtec is similar but may sometimes cause sedation. If that doesn't eliminate the hives, a sedating-type of antihistamine (hydroxyzine, cyproheptadine or doxepin) is added at night. High doses may be needed and this will cause sedation. Fortunately, most patients will become less affected by sedation after they have taken the drug regularly for a while.
I'm so sorry for everyone's suffering. I understand as I've had hives now for five months. They only time they went away and I had relief was on a huge dose of prednisone. I was feeling healthy when they began back in April. I also started getting chills, shooting pains in my toes, a very sore thoat, & swollen lymph glands. I developed a sinus infection which has been treated now with an antibiotic and an antifungal (CT scan shows it's clear).
I feel like my body's thermostat is broken and I'm constantly overheating. I've been taking Claritin and Benadryl but that doesn't seem to help at all. My doctor also gave me a prescription medicine called Atarax, which only makes me drowsy and doesn't help the itchy feeling. Any suggestions? Btw, I've taken blood tests to see if there is anything wrong but everything came out fine.
But once or twice a month, I sneeze uncontrollably, hundreds of times, all day long, and nothing, not Allegra-D, not Claritin, not Benadryl, will stop it. And the weird thing is, this sneezing is NOT accompanied by the usual itching. When I have a "sneezing day," I am nonfunctional. All events are canceled. It is absolutely exhausting. I sometimes wonder if it has anything to do with weather or barometric changes; it seems like it rains or there's a temp.
we have all tried hot/ cold water. pool water vs chlorine free water etc.... yet we still itch severely. if anyone has other suggestions other than what has been mentioned above.. please feel free to contact at dieselpower313 at a o l *******.....
the mri scan looks at the brain in detail, csf, sulcus, deviation any masses, changes, edema, fluid, old vs new cva, its amazingly detailed. if you had a mass, bleed, a developing aneurysm it would have picked it up. so iwouldnt worry about that.
I was prescribed Elidel, which does help after a day or two of use with the swelling and redness Applying a THICK coat of aquaphor at night helps with the drying that comes after the original onset and helps with the wrinkles and or chaffing from itching and heating of the skin from a warm towel This time my itching starting on a Sunday night and I was a full blown mess by Monday - Tuesday. I started Benadryl and then Zyrtec Sunday night as well as the Elidel.
Hello, This itching after shaving can be due to contact dermatitis to the material used in shaving or due to infection of the hair follicles.Take Benadryl or Claritin and apply calamine lotion or a mild steroid cream after shaving and if the symptoms persist then you can opt for waxing or laser hair removal.A consultation of a cosmetologist will be the best in that case. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
For relief from the crawling try an antihistime, something like Zyrtec. It gave me great relief. Still on the trail of the cure for this thing, next is to sprinkle borax on the carpets and leave for a week & repeat. Someone had success with this so it is worth a try.
For 2 weeks I was fighting the symptoms, with and without the eye drops, Allegra, Claritin and other Allergy and Dry eye relieve drops - none of it worked - none. Lubricants didn't do anything either- my eyes are dry and puffy, red and bumpy. Regardless of whether I use or don't use makeup some days I wakeup and can't even open my eyes. January 2009 I went back to see the allergist and begged him to prescribe Alrex to me.
There are preservatives in wine - maybe that's what I'm allergic/sensitive to. I have allergies (mold, ragweed, cats, etc.) and take 1 Allegra/day when needed - still taking that. It could also be the black kohosh I suppose or God only knows what else. BUT - I know that since I stopped drinking the red wine and stopped the vitamins, I'VE BEEN ABLE TO SLEEP THE WHOLE NIGHT THROUGH!!!!! That seems to be a miracle to me. I used to wake myself up from scratching. I am still going to the dr.
