Anyone know if benadryl is safe to take? My allergies are crazy right now and the zyrtec alone isn't enough. Normally I would take a benadryl to help but I never asked if that was ok during pregnancy.
We just adopted Penny last week. Our vet says she may have allergies and put her on benadryl 25 mg (she weighs 16 lbs) twice a day until he rechecks her on 1/7.
The rescue organization wrote me and said benadryl was not safe; to use zyrtec (which I do on my male that I've had almost 10 years). Is benadryl safe for approximately 1 month's use?

Zyrtec and benadryl. Zyrtec doesn't work for me, and benadryl makes me so tired. So my Dr gave me flonase and said to take the benadryl at night.
These types of questions are always best answered by a docotor or pharmacist.
However, phenylephedrin is a decongestant, benadryl is an antihistamine and vicodin is a narcotic pain reliever. The concern would be that both bendryl and the vicodin would cause drowziness on their own. They would magnify that effect when taken together. You might want to take Zyrtec instead of the benadryl as Zyrtec doesn't cause the drowziness that benadryl does.
I use Benadryl (non drowsy) almost every day but when my allergies are out of control I use Zyrtec. If I have congestion, I use Sudaffed.
Claritin & benadryl are on my list of okay meds to take.
Benadryl causes drowsiness and I think I'm getting used to it because I have difficulties falling asleep when I don't take it. I can't tell what causes my allergies. I wake up in the middle of the night to use the restroom and sneeze, then I just continue to sneeze and my eyes and nose are watery and my nose is congested. Sometimes I go to bed fine and wake up in the morning with the same symptoms. It's weird.
Can I still take it being in my first trimester?
I have really bad allergies also. Even got a sinus infection this time ! Benadryl didn't do anything to me but what you can take is over the counter benadryl, zyrtec, and claritin. zyrtec works better.

My have had terrible allergy symptoms so dr told me that zyrtec, Claritan and bendryl are safe during pregnancy. I took Zyrtec during the day yesterday with no relief by bedtime so I took a Benadryl to hopefully get some sleep at night because my symptoms were still terrible!
Didn't realize this might not be ok to mix- anyone have any idea if mixing them once is ok?? Now I'm really nervous I did something wrong even though they're both safe.
Clartin, zyrtec and benadryl are fine. I would also recommend using a neti pot. It takes a couple of tries to get use to but it does help.
I would talk to your doctor or midwife before taking anything. But the doctor gave me a list of oks to take while sick/allergies/constipation/nauseous and everything else and it says you can take
A. Benadryl
B. Claritin
C. Zyrtec
D. Allegra

I went to the doctor and she put me on steroids and benadryl. We determined that it was an allergy to hookah. I took my dosage and quit hookah. 3 days after the steroids had ended I woke up in the middle of the night with the left side of my tongue swollen. I went to the emergency room and they put me back on steroids and benadryl again. 3 days after my steroid dosage had ended my hand and foot only on the left side started swelling to the point I couldn't walk.
As long as your dr gave the go ahead then I say take the Benadryl. I broke out in full body hives around 24 weeks and took Benadryl (just a half dose so I didn't get as much of that sleepy effect) and my dr told me Zyrtec was fine to take too since its a full 24 hours of relief. I'd say call ur dr and ask about the Zyrtec or even Claritin and if they give the go ahead, take that for during the day and the Benadryl to help sleep at night until it subsides.
