Zyrtec for urticaria

Common Questions and Answers about Zyrtec for urticaria

zyrtec

Avatar n tn Zyrtec can cause side effects like skin nodules, rash, pruritis (itching), acne, urticaria, photosensitivity reactions and eczema. So, the itchy red cheeks could be due to Zyrtec. Discuss your symptoms with your consulting doctor he may change the dose or the medications. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn My 12 year old daughter was just diagnosed today with this. I read the other posts relating thyroid problems with autoimmune urticaria. Since I have hypothyroidism, I'm guessing that she should be tested for this at her regular doctor's office? Right now all I can afford is the double dose of Zyrtec, but with everything else she's allergic to (7 types of trees, 3 molds, ragweed, cat, feathers, dust mites & roaches of course) the allergy shots would be better for her, right?
Avatar f tn There is uncertainty in the disappearance of the urticaria. Some studies stated that if urticaria stays for more than 6 months there are 40% chances that it may persist for period of 10 years. In some cases it can disappear in a short period. I suggest you to consult a allergy specialist. Take care and regards.

Avatar n tn A complete history with proper evaluation can confirm the cause for urticaria. Treatment depends upon the cause for urticaria. Prevention of the allergen is the most important part of treatment of this condition. Best.
Avatar f tn ve also seen a dermatologist and she said finding the root to the problem is difficult therefore nothing can be done but to continuously taking Zyrtec if my body responds to it. Even though I know Zyrtec can temporarily stops the outbreak, I try not to take much as I fear there might be side effects (I heard it can make you infertile if consuming over a long period of time? Not sure if it's true). ...Help!!!!!!!!!...how do I get rid it permanently?
Avatar n tn Hi, the drugs you have mentioned are Histamine H1 Antagonist, belonging to Second Generation. These are newer anti histaminics which are devoid of sedation. That is the main advantage over the first generation anti histamines. Both are mainly used in treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis and treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria. Headache and drowsiness are side effects seen with loratidine. Whereas headache and vomiting with fexofenadine.
Avatar f tn Thanks so much for your response. I am not breastfeeding so I took some Zyrtec that my husband has for his allergies. Its only been an hour & the itching is soooo much better. Hopefully this condition is just due to my hormones & wont last much longer. I will take the Zyrtec til it does. Again. Thanks very much.
Avatar n tn Hello, It can be due to cold urticaria. Cold urticaria is diagnosed by holding an ice cube against the skin of the forearm for 1 to 5 minutes. A distinct hive should develop if a patient has cold urticaria. Patients with cold urticaria should learn to protect themselves from a rapid drop in body temperature.Antihistaminics like Claritin and zyrtec can also be taken. The antihistamine cyproheptadine (Periactin) has been found to be a useful treatment also.
Avatar f tn Simple moisturizing creams, wet soaks, calamine lotions etc are generally enough to soothe the symptoms of hives of pregnancy. Try these along with Zyrtec. Zyrtec also causes hives, sounds strange when it is used for the cure. It is also possible that Zyrtec is aggravating your hives. Please take a skin test or RAST test to know what you are allergic to. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult an allergy specialist.
Avatar n tn I usually take a zyrtec once a day and benadryl at night if I have a flare up. I recently had an outbreak of hives only on my hands. They itched like crazy and were all different sizes. The zyrtec took the itch away so it doesn't bother me at all but they are a bit uncomfortable. It's been almost two weeks and my hives are still there. What could cause this, especially since it doesn't itch anymore?
Avatar m tn I found that the All Day Allergy pill 10 mg is working because it is Cetirizine and it works for 24 hours, but I also found at my home that we have Zyrtec also. But it is Cetirizine HCL 10 mg. What is the difference?
Avatar n tn Place an ice cube on your forearm for 4 minutes and observe the area for 10 minutes afterwards. If you have cold urticaria, the area will become itchy and then swell approximately 2 minutes after removing the ice cube. Treatment is avoiding exposure to cold stimuli, including swimming or bathing in cold water. You can take antihistaminics like zyrtec or tegamet.
Avatar f tn My dr says that I have heat induced hives and put me on 24 Zyrtec and 25mg of Benedryl. It worked for about a month and now I'm breaking out in hives again when I exercise. I haven't had any allergy tests done yet. A fitness friend of mine thinks that I might have a build up of toxins and when i sweat the toxins are being released. I haven't talked with my dr about that yet. Is there any truth to this? I do drink a good bit of regular soda.
Avatar n tn Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes. They have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around, disappearing in one place and reappearing in other places, often in a matter of hours. Take non sedating antihistamines like Claritin or Zyrtec to get symptom relief. Sedating antihistamine such as Benadryl is used at night to get urticaria control.
Avatar m tn will i still be drowsy all day? Do you have any other ideas for me to use to combat my solar urticaria?
Avatar n tn m taking Zyrtec daily now because the itching is so severe. The Zyrtec kills the itching for 24 hours. I went to the doctor who said it was tinea versicolor - which I have had since I was a teenager - and I told her that tinea versicolor didn't itch. She, however, says it can. Still, I'm itching everywhere the tinea versicolor is NOT (i.e. ankles, legs, butt, neck, stomach, etc.). She is putting me on Ketoconazole 200mg for 5 days and Ketoconazole shampoo to use on my entire body.

You should enroll with Medic Alert and always carry Epi pen (injectable adrenaline) along with you. I hope it helps.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with exercise induced urticaria. I am a college student who developed my symptoms only 3 months ago. I get this itchy red rash when i sweat, and I get hives when i sweat in the water. Claritin does not help, and I refused to take Prednisone from my doctor (for many reasons). Ive traveled to a lot of tropical places, so i took a natural anti-parasite medication, but it did not help. Is there a correlation between urticaria and a yeast overload?
Avatar m tn m not acclimatized to the heat, and it also subsides after extreme sweating (but before then is a problem). It also went away for about a year a while back, but then returned. I searched the net and found the condition "cholinergic urticaria" that seems to fit what I have. Does this sound right, and if so what should I do? I also have minor psoriasis, and very dry skin, as well as multiple moles and skin tags, if any of that is relevant.
Avatar m tn Hi Friends/Community/Experts, 1. I am 25 years single male and I never had any skin problem until last month...It just started itching all over my body and I smoothly itch and itch and can't stop myself from itching.....I started to take Zyrtec for few days according to doctor's guidance.....It does not itch that night and until next day.....When I stopped medicine after 3 weeks, it started all again...uuuhhhh.....I went to doctor again...
Avatar f tn I used creams, oatmeal baths and continued her Zyrtec. I decided to take her to a different allgerist for a second opinion. At this point she was placed on Zyrtec 5mg BID, Orapred 15 mg q daily x 5 days and Triamcinolone cream BID. The plaques were beginning to get better and I have seen some encouraging results regarding them. However, 2 days after finishing the Orapred, she has developed an extremely itchy rash from her neck almost to her knees. The rash is slightly raised and red.
