Zyrtec for itching skin

Common Questions and Answers about Zyrtec for itching skin

zyrtec

Hello, It can be due to dry skin or xerosis which can cause itchy skin. Dry skin usually results from environmental factors that you can wholly or partially control. These include hot or cold weather with low humidity levels, long-term use of air conditioning or central heating, and washing or bathing too much. You can apply an anti-itch cream or lotion to the affected area. Oral antihistamine, such as Benadryl can also be used.

i do not have dry skin and there are no visible reasons for the itching except stopping zyrtec. i already take vitamin c for an unrelated condition. up until now i have never had all over itching in my life. i have googled zyrtec itch tonight and found sites full of people with the same problem (whos doctors dont believe them). supposedly the itch goes away in around two weeks. this may not be documented by healthcare professionals but there seem to be lots of people with the same problem.
I do understand your concern but this condition may be controlled through oral antihistamines or avoiding all possible triggers. As for all types of allergic reactions, the triggers will not always be identified. For how long have you been experiencing the symptoms? Is there a strong history of allergies, asthma or allergic rhinitis in the family?
Give over the counter antihistaminics like Claritin or zyrtec to your husband.Nighttime itching can be controlled by benadryl. Also apply calamine lotion or a mild steroid cream on the itchy areas. If the symptoms persist then oral steroids may be needed. Me too , I have had Hives or Chronic Urticaria since Mid May after Dental Work, I live in Southern CA , the doctors I have seen gave me HYdroxyzene which made me feel sick and I had pains similar to a Gall Bladder attack and I read Hydroxyzine can cause viral infections, , I have also been given topical cream, but it is steroid so I use sparingly.

It is possible you may be having a reaction to the fillers in synthroid. Does the itching stay away for the dosage time of zyrtec? If this is the case, maybe you can ask your dr to switch you to Levo brand and see if you do better on that. Stay away from the generic though. Is there anything else new that you have consumed or been around?

Itchy skin that isn't accompanied by other obvious skin changes, such as a rash, is most often caused by dry skin (xerosis). I get rashes on my body that it kind of warm feeling, it cannot stop itching. it goes away and then just comes out somewhere else? It is driving me crazy! what could it be?
For me, zyrtec worked for about a week, but then I needed a prescription. My "itching" felt like I was being poked with pins (especially on my legs and especially at night when my legs got warm under the covers). My body also became super sensitive to static electricity. My GI doc used to be in general practice and she correctly prescribed Gabapentin to address this "being poked with pins" side effect.
So I have to get through 3 more weeks. Atarax works for the itching and is supposed to make you sleepy, but does not for me. Fluocinonide works for the rash. Gold Bond cream worked better than aveno, but still use aveno soap. Keep it cool as you can. Hope it goes away or becomes more manageable. The tx is working, but it does make the road any easier. I told the NP today that the positive side of this rash/itching is that I no longer work about any other sx.
For over a month now, I have experienced itchy skin all over my body- from my neck to my toes and everywhere in between. The itching becomes so intense that it is immensely painful, sometimes unbearable. There is nothing specific that prompts the itching. I notice it whenever I get out of the shower or change clothes, but it also occurs when I am just going along through my day. Scratching doesn't cause any relief, and even mild, light scratching leaves small whelt type marks all over.
If it turns out you are allergic to something in the environment, there is therapy that can help alleviate your condition. In the meantime, ask whoever gave you the prescription for zyrtec for a second medication, Singulair. You have to take these everyday. This combination is effective for treating itching skin.

I can't workout because I can't get hot thats when I start itching and my skin gets flushed red. I also do not sweat and I even get the itching in my sleep when I dream about something strenous. It also happens when I get emotionally stressed, suprised, or angry. I can't get emotional without the itching affecting me.
My question is, what would cause itching of the abdomen, chest, legs, back when it is not caused by allergies or weather. I have been itching all over for about 4 months now. There is no notable rash and I have eliminated everything but breathing to ensure it is not allergy. My doctor several months ago thought it might be allergies and I eliminated everything changed soaps etc. but to no avail of relief.
What I should use to get relief from belly itching. Also feeling heat around belly button. Is there any remedy?

I tried aloe vera for a week and have been using coca butter for two weeks but neither have helped! The itching is so intense it's hard to ignore but when I do itch, the itching gets so intense it sends shivers down my spine. Sometimes I itch so much but I do not break the skin. Which I find weird because the rest of my body isn’t like this. Occasionally, when I don’t itch (where i get the itch) can be red but not always.
It feels like crawly worms. I've been to a dermatologist and tried all kinds of creams but the itching continues. Sometimes it is unbearble. It is often triggered in any condition, during the day or night. As a result pimple like bumps appear and my face looks less than attractive as it used to be.
Hydrocort Valerate on my face. Oral Hydroxyzine 50 mg every 6 hours for the rash and itching. That combination worked for me. The rash is a systemic reaction so one needs to tackle it with an oral antihistamine (a strong one) as well as topical preparations. The problem with the topicals is that they work slowly and they also work only where you apply them.
itching is from the meds drying your skin out. try gold bond extra strength lotion and/or oatmeal baths. do not take baths/showers with hot water, this will dry your skin out more. put aveeno lotion on several times a day especially after baths/showers. use gold bond when itching is really bad and aveeno all the time. Like Tippy said Atarax prescription works.
) Going for a holter monitor tomorrow...don't think it's gonna show anything. I don't believe I have any arrhythmias or an irregular heartbeat with the NCS but we'll see!
WOW... thank you for writing this!! I have had itching on my right inside forearm for over a year easy, and it does drive me just crazy! Days I feel I could itch the skin right off!! I have the burning on places too and so many other symptoms. I get the bee stings, cold feelings like cold water on my skin, cramps, and restless Leg, fatigue, hurt all over, and among other many others things. I had a MRI of my brain and a EEG done, next week I get results..
I have tried alcohol as well, only relieves itching a little bit. I have this cream the doctor gave me for itching and sometimes it works, now I think it works only for the itching. I also get these little tiny bumps on the tops of my hands, itch and go away pretty quickly. The main problem with my situation is I also get them on my legs, itchy bumps in patches. I have been to a few doctors and no one can figure it out.
