Zyrtec for food allergy

Common Questions and Answers about Zyrtec for food allergy

zyrtec

Avatar n tn Should we try the Zyrtec? I am scared that this is only going to get worse and I feel so sorry for her. Whenever her lip swells people talk about her. I had been giving her Benadryl when the lips swell but is that really helping her since it is not truly an allergy? I have a friend that says she has the same thing and she takes Zyrtec and Pepcid at night, she says it is the combination of the 2 drugs, and then when her lip swells she has to take Prednisone.
689528 tn?1364135841 s control, like this time of year ,he gets a prednisone per day for 3 or 4 days and then every other day for two or until things calm down. Zyrtec can be expensive, but we actually found a generic brand at the dollar store! $1. for 14 pills, so we clear their shelves! Our poor boy suffered until we found this new vet, every other night, we would do oatmeal baths, benedryl cream, benedryl pills, alcohol rubs, ice.. it was heartbreaking. We can totally relate.
Avatar n tn I went and seen a doctor about this and was told I have allergies, I was perscribed the generic for singulair for 10 days, and zyrtec for about 2 weeks to see if I got better. I opted to take the medicine at night (tonight)...and i can't sleep and my throat is so dry even after water. I really dis like medicine...I get anxious...what are some other options to feel better?... HELP!

7945295 tn?1397658820 Do any of you lady's take zyrtec for allergies? I don't like taking anything period but my allergies are sever. I claritan with my son but I feel like zyrtec works better. I was told its just as safe but figured I'd see what you lady's take.
Avatar m tn One thing many people do not realize is that if a dog has a food allergy that it takes up to 6 weeks for that allergy to not affect the dog once the food has been switched over to another food. When you are checking a dog over for a food allergy, you cannot give him ANY OTHER type of food OR any types of treats. He may only have ONE food, no treats. Finding a food that will not cause problems can take several months of hit and misses.
Avatar f tn If you are not confident about this Doctor then I would say get another opinion, hes your child... it does sound like allergy and this has been a bad year ..so take a second opinion ..zyrtec seems to be prescribed willy nilly ...he may need something different .
3539331 tn?1347554407 Thanks! I will try a fish-based food to give her. The vets allergy shots just never worked. thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it very much.
Avatar n tn Hi, What did your doc say? WELCOME .. you've gotten great info above! Clariten works well .. but not the greatest for food allergies for my kids; but if it's working for you go for it LOL! Also, long-term usually is ok if ok by your doc! How are you doing now?
Avatar f tn Check with the doctor but he will more than likely firmly recommend Claritin and warn against Benadryl. keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Hi, Sudden swelling of lips after eating something is usually due to food allergies.Get a blood test or food allergy test done from an immunologist if the symptoms persist. Regards.
Avatar n tn He has done quite well with Allegra for seasonal allergies, and even better with Zyrtec. Zyrtec is OTC but allegra is not. Both are well tolerated with Risperdal. Benaadryl is not good with Risperdal. My son, age 17, is zonked out when he takes both. He basically is out like a light and doesn't wake up in the morning (until about 12 hours later) the few times he has taken it. Not good at all. Claritin does not work for him either, nor anyone in my family.
Avatar f tn I was told to take zyrtec. Now I have a rash on my upper thighs. Is it the generic zyrtec? Would the regular Zyrtec do the same? Have you ever heard of Diamox being prescribed for Meneire's disease? I find nothing in the literature about it and am hesitant to take it as it makes me very tired. I need to sleep about 3 hours a day when I take it. I don't want to experience vertigo again.
Avatar f tn I had my first hives breakout when I was 12 and apparently developed an allergy to grass. Benadryl didnt work on me at all for my hives or sneeziness and what not, I started on Chlor-Trimeton and that worked great but then that stopped working after 10 years and so i switched to Claritin. I'm not sre what i should take now. Help!
Avatar f tn I asked for a referral for allergy testing last November, and I am going to have to wait until June of 2011 to get in for an appointment because the Canadian health system is terrible. I ate some raw egg today (meringue) forgetting myself.... my allergy to raw eggs was not really all that bad before, but now it's been over an hour and I'm still having symptoms, I even considered going up to the hospital if the swelling didn't stop (which it has started to get better).
Avatar m tn You may also want to consider taking one of the over the counter allergy meds such as Zyrtec or Benadryl. HOWEVER, do not take ANYTHING without checking with your doctor first, especially if you are already on other medication or under a doctor's care for anything. You sure don't want to end up with an interaction between meds. Best of luck - I know how it is with cat allergies - mine are HORRIBLE!
Avatar f tn I've been on Claritin/Zyrtec my whole pregnancy. I know Claritin is approved, I believe Zyrtec is fine too.
Avatar f tn Went to a doctor and was priscribed over the counterver Zyrtec/Cetirizine for the hives. Took them and immediately the hives vanished. Everything was going fine until the hives started to come back more and mroe regularly to the point I had to start taking the Zyrtec everyday to control them.
Avatar f tn HORRIBLE ALLERGIES! it depends what works for you. My doctor has gave me the okay on zyrtec, benedryl, and claritin. Claritin doesn't work for me so I take a zyrtec EVERYDAY morning, than about 6 at night when it start wearing off I have to take a benedryl. Hope this helps. & hope you feel better.
Avatar f tn I get hives and I take something that is similar to zyrtec for it. Cetirizine 10mg given to me by my VA (veteran affairs) doctor. It's safe. Get well soon. I know the feeling and it *****.
Avatar f tn I have my appointment next monday but i dont know if i can wait that long to ask what i can take for them. Is there anything at all i can use for nasal allergies? I feel like im dying from these sneeze attacks ive been having.
Avatar f tn //www.healthline.com/health/childrens-health/zyrtec-child-allergies#talk-with-your-doctor Flonase is a bit different. I assume you were also buying that over the counter? This too is generally regarded as safe but is recommended to only be used 2 months out of the year unless your doctor has said otherwise. It's a nasal steroid. These have been associated with usually insignificant slowing of growth. https://www.post-gazette.
Avatar f tn Possible food allergy. Symptoms began in August as a slight swelling feeling under the front tongue but no actual swelling seen. At this time I was in an extremely stressful circumstance. Symptoms did not go away and progessed the beginning of November into severe pain in my mouth, a feeling of severe swelling under the front and back of the tongue (although still no swelling actually seen), extreme pain in the jaw that was relieved by heat, and swelling in the nasopharynx.
