Common Questions and Answers about Zyrtec and loratadine

zyrtec

Avatar n tn Hi, the drugs you have mentioned are Histamine H1 Antagonist, belonging to Second Generation. These are newer anti histaminics which are devoid of sedation. That is the main advantage over the first generation anti histamines. Both are mainly used in treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis and treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria. Headache and drowsiness are side effects seen with loratidine. Whereas headache and vomiting with fexofenadine.
Avatar f tn I have seasonal allergies and was wondering the best OTC antihistamine would work better. Allegra, Zyrtec or loratadine. I was on 12.5 zoloft for 2 weeks and tapering up to 25 mg (split another 12.5 in half so 3/4 a pill then one whole 25 mg. I have to do this slowly as I am super sensitive to meds. Thanks for any help. Plus I eventually need to taper down my ativan when I level on the zoloft.
1331658 tn?1275341605 How much Zyrtec can I take? I am on 10mg of zyrtec a day and 20mg or Loratadine a day as well. I'm 29yrs old, the reason why I want to take more is, 5yrs ago I was in a car accident and got TBI- Traumatic Brain Injury, The part of my brain that sends out signals got damaged. My hip strength was at like 10% on one side and 15% or normal on the other side. Well, I had a plugged nose and I asked my doc for something and he gave me Loratadine to help me with my nose.
959034 tn?1253671476 I just started taking Claritin (Loratadine) but it hasn't helped at all! The nurse at my school said to take Zyrtec everyday and that it really doesn't make you as drowsy as they say. I just don't know what time to take it, or what time is best...
Avatar f tn just until the next time I have to go into an environment that I cannot control. I switched from loratadine to Zyrtec and that actually has been controlling it, if I take a pill in the morning, mid-day and sometimes evening as well. The good news is, my nurse practioner said that I am not crazy and set me up with an allergist who I will see within a couple of weeks. Hopefully, the Zyrtec works well enough in the meantime.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have mysterious allergy issue, for a long time I didn't know the cause of tingling/shaking, but now I do. My body tingles/shakes all over for day's, after I have a sneezing fit, always happens after I mow the lawn. I'll sneeze 10 times in a row, my nose becomes severly congested, then the symptoms begin. I even wear a mask, but still sneeze. No allergy med helps, I've tried em all, Loratadine, Claritin, XYZal, Benedryl, Zyrtec, etc.....
Avatar f tn The mainstay of treatment is antihistamine which may be necessary for prolonged periods (in excess of 6 weeks). You can take non-sedating antihistamines such as Cetirizine(Zyrtec) or Loratadine(Claritin) may be needed to get symptom relief. Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine(Benadryl) can be used at night to get urticaria control. Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms.
Avatar f tn He told me to take one a day but i been taking them for two days and i feel a little better and some has gone away but my hands and feet got very swollen and hurtful. i dont know what it is and its scaring me because I've never been the type of person that has allergic reactions?
Avatar f tn You can take non-sedating antihistamines such as Cetirizine(zyrtec) or Loratadine(Claritin) to get symptom relief. Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine(benadryl) or Hydroxyzine are used at night to get urticaria control. Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms. You may take Vitamin C along with the prescribed treatment. Vitamin C is a general anti-allergy supplement.
Avatar n tn The itching turns to minor pain a week or two later as the skin drys and stretches, almost with very tiny tears. Anyways, as I mentioned, it starts when I take Zyrtec and stops after that.
Avatar m tn Along with steam inhalation, you can take nonsedating antihistamines like cetirizine (Zyrtec) or loratadine (Claritin). Moreover decongestants and topical decongestants may help in reducing congestion of the nose. You can use eucalyptus oil or products containing menthol with steam inhalation. This should help. Pls visit your physician if the condition persists for a longer period. Keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes. They have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around, disappearing in one place and reappearing in other places, often in a matter of hours. Many cases of hives are "idiopathic," meaning no cause is known. Others may be triggered by viral infections or medications.
Avatar m tn My tired eyes problem is now solved by myself - I am now taking Clarinase tablets morning and night, and it cleared my tired eyes; it is probably the Loratadine in it that solves the problem. The phlegm due to my allergic rhinitis/sinusitis everyday affected me unknowingly for many years and my schizophrenia/major depression also affected my life due to the many side effects of the medicines.
Avatar f tn He prescribed an Epi-Pen and recommended Loratadine twice a day, when the attacks continued, he added Zyrtec at night, but it's having no effect--still covered in hives and having big angioedema attacks every other day. He said to stay on the antihistamines. I tried to get a referral to an endocrin., but they won't see me unless I have signs of hypothyroidism. Is there something else I can try to stop the hives and the angioedema attacks?
Avatar m tn m allergic to Allegra-D, and Zyrtec makes me feel like a zombie. Hot water with lemon seems to help my throat, but it seems the condition just doesn't want to go away, no matter what I do. Is there any medication that actually works reducing swelling, inflammation, etc..... All suggestions/experience appreciated. Oh and allergist told me to take aspirin when my throat swells, but aspirin doesn't help either.
Avatar n tn Sometimes double conventional doses of these non-sedating antihistamines such as Cetirizine(zyrtec), Loratadine(Claritin) and Fexofenadine may be needed to get symptom relief.Apply mild corticosteroid cream like dermacort on the rash.It should help. If the symptoms still persist then pls contact your doctor as oral steroids may be needed. If you have any respiratory difficulty, palpitation or wheezing along with, then pls contact ER immediately. It could be anaphylaxis.
Avatar f tn Claritin works well for me for dust and mild pet dander, but Zyrtec helps with more vigorous pet dander (horses) and for cottonwood and dogwood. Really only Benadryl works for pine bladders. My doctor gave me some samples of some other medications: Zyzal (sp?) and Singulaire, which also help with the more daily stuff, including some food allergies, that Claritin can't handle. Really I take a moment and figure out what allergen I have been exposed to.
Avatar n tn So for some background, on Monday, I layed out to get some sun and accidently fell asleep, and ended up being outside for about 2 hours. I got sunburnt on my chest and stomach, and nowhere else. I normally tan, and my skin doesn't peel when I get burnt. That night, I was fine. On Tuesday, the next night, I went to sleep and the next morning I had what I think were hives on my back and sides.
1339395 tn?1317263821 my regular doc and ob said it was "ok to take" zyrtec/claritin...but im soooo nervous bc all the babies organs are developing right now... my allergies are killing me (ive been in bed yesterday and today) with runny nose, sneezing like crazy, itchy watery eyes, sore throat. and the weird part is I FEEL like i have a temperature (feel flushed) but i dont have a temp.. who here has taken allergy meds this early and had a healthy baby or any feedback would be great!

2078979 tn?1332206668 My doctor told me that zyrtec and claritin are ok but not allegra. If you perfer natural remedies, chamomile tea, vapor rub, hot chicken broth with a little cheyenne, lots of fruits and veggies-especially vitamin c. Netti pots work great for sinus problems, just make sure to use distilled water.
Avatar n tn I will add some Vitamin C today, and purchase some calamine lotion. I am not sure if Zyrtec or Claritin require prescription, but I will check this morning with my doctor to see. I am a 65-year-old woman with high blood pressure, for which I take prescribed medicine. I was checked for diabetes about 6 months ago, with negative results. Thank you for your prompt and helpful response!

Avatar f tn It is often treated with a drying nasal spray (like Atrovent) and antihistamines like chlorpheniramine and loratadine are effective. Nasal decongestant drops too relieve congestion. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation. Regards.
