I was also advised to take Zyrtec and wondered if Zyrtec had any more benefit for skin reactions thank Claritin. Claritin didn't help at all. Two dermatologists suggested Zyrtec over Claritin . Does IC have anything to do with periods? and I was also wondering this: when a doctor presses around different spots on your abdomen, would certain spots hurt more than others depending on what you could have? Because when she pushed on my bladder it didn't hurt, but when she pushed more to the sides of my lower abdomen closer to my hip bones it hurt a lot more.

Hi, you probably have IC based on your classic symptoms of frequency, urgency and pain in the bladder/urethra. Your symptoms are unresponsive to antobiotics and treatment with antibiotics is ineffective. With no blood in the urine and a normal ultrasound, you have ruled out the other clinical problems with these symptoms. You have a 17 X higher risk of having IC because you have a primary family member with IC.

My doctor was OK with me taking zyrtec. You just have to make sure to drink lots and lots of water.

Both Allegra and Zyrtec are 24 hour medications in my area. I have known several people who took 3 Zyrtec in one day, and my allergist says that you can't really OD on antihistimines. You should be sure to drink PLENTY of water and watch for signs of constipation and dehydration. You should make sure that your dr is well aware of how much of these meds you are taking to make sure that they are ok with any other medications you maybe taking.

I cannot have soy milk, fruit juice, most things that are highly acidic, and pears. (The pears are crazy because they say people with IC can eat pears, well my body never read the info.) Also you might want to try a gluten and dairy free diet. (I was on one before the diagnosis) as IC does have an autoimmune component. Whatever you do not let anyone perform the Potassium Chloride test (KCl test) because this test is only 70% reliable.

I have IC and I treat mine two ways-- I stay away from foods that trigger it-- for me it is not the typical I actually cannot have the foods that they say should not cause a reaction-- such as pears. I also minimize my amount of citris and citric acid. I also cannot not drink apple or orange juice (I am sure it also goes for grapefruit but since I do not like it, I will never know.) Also I know being gluten free helps because IC is autoimmune.

This is very strange and maybe just a fluke but tonight I took a Prilosec otc and within about an hour my IC symptoms had subsided and are still gone now 4 hrs later......could there really be a connection????

I want to have children one day and I am scared b/c of my IC and bladder. I have heard by doctors and IC patients that Ic goes away and into remission when your pregnant. Well their is obviosuly somethingt that is going write for the IC when your pg, they need to find out what and maybe we'll have a cure!!
