Zyrtec and claritin not working

Common Questions and Answers about Zyrtec and claritin not working

zyrtec

Avatar f tn Okay. Thank you!
Avatar n tn I was also advised to take Zyrtec and wondered if Zyrtec had any more benefit for skin reactions thank Claritin. Claritin didn't help at all. Two dermatologists suggested Zyrtec over Claritin . I hesitate to try the Zyrtec as I took it once a few years ago and promptly feel into a deep sleep. If it is better for the skin than Claritin can it be taken at night and do any good? Your help is greatly appreciated. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn Hi, the drugs you have mentioned are Histamine H1 Antagonist, belonging to Second Generation. These are newer anti histaminics which are devoid of sedation. That is the main advantage over the first generation anti histamines. Both are mainly used in treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis and treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria. Headache and drowsiness are side effects seen with loratidine. Whereas headache and vomiting with fexofenadine.
Avatar f tn Hello Doctor, Is it possible that I have built up a tolerence to loratadine after using it so many years? I have the usual allergy symptoms: sneezing, itchiness, runny nose and hive breakouts. I'm allegic to dust, pollen and grass, no food or medicinal allergies that I know of. I usually take 10mg of generic Claritin once a day and I'm fine (about 4years now) but yesterday I broke out in Hives and the claritin hasnt helped. I took 20mg last night and 20mg this morning.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me not to take allegera, not that it was bad for the baby. But there are better things to take.
Avatar f tn Clartin, zyrtec and benadryl are fine. I would also recommend using a neti pot. It takes a couple of tries to get use to but it does help.
Avatar f tn Check with the doctor but he will more than likely firmly recommend Claritin and warn against Benadryl. keep us posted.
7945295 tn?1397658820 I've only heard of Claritin and regular Benadryl being safe but I would ask your doctor because some meds you need to be within a certain trimester to you use them.
1472764 tn?1287588186 My OB said I can take Benedryl, Claritin or Zyrtec (I am allergic to Claritin and Zyrtec gives me headaches so am taking Benedryl). Allegedly, Chlor-trimeton is safe until the 3rd trimester (that is what I usually take) but I decided it is better safe and sleepy with Benedryl :) My nurses' drug book lists them all as Pregnancy Category B, the same as Tylenol.
Avatar f tn I take Claritin and Zyrtec and I still get stuffy at night. It's frustrating because I'm either blowing all day and stuffy at night. I sneeze a lot and constantly blowing. I sometimes get extremely dried out and I can't take it. I also use netti pot, nasal spray and nothing helps. Any other suggestions. It seems everytime I get pregnant my smell sensitivity heightens to the extreme. Thanks for any help.
Avatar f tn My doctor was OK with me taking zyrtec. You just have to make sure to drink lots and lots of water.

Avatar f tn I've been on Claritin/Zyrtec my whole pregnancy. I know Claritin is approved, I believe Zyrtec is fine too.
Avatar f tn Benadryl is safe.
Avatar f tn he told me i could take benydryl zyrtec and claritin. of course ask your doctor but thats what he told me.
233772 tn?1297353383 I have been taking Zyrtec-D and at first it seemed that was working but now I am having more stuffiness. I can't breath through my nose. I have tried nasal sprays to no avail. I have tried other over the counter meds such as Claritin and Tylenol Sinus but none work. I go to bed at night and I am fine for a bit but always wake up at about 4am. I am exhausted and am not getting enough sleep. Off and on I have been having a little shortness of breath.
Avatar m tn Hello rickjr1989, I would make an appointment with your family doctor. Tell your doctor what has been happening. After examing you, your doctor will probably suggest that you have an allergy test. He or she will probably give you a referral to an allergist. Myself, I wouldn't self medicate with Zyrtec or Claritin if you don't know what you're allergic to. I have allergies but I had an allergy test many years ago now and that's how they were discovered.
Avatar f tn ) ) I would suggest that you try Zyrtec instead of the claritin. It is a stronger medicine. My allergist says that claritin might as well be a water pill for all it does for you. It also doesn't have the drowzy side effects you mentioned with the other. Even the generic is more expensive than the others though. I would also recommend sinus rinses if you aren't doing them already.
Avatar f tn HORRIBLE ALLERGIES! it depends what works for you. My doctor has gave me the okay on zyrtec, benedryl, and claritin. Claritin doesn't work for me so I take a zyrtec EVERYDAY morning, than about 6 at night when it start wearing off I have to take a benedryl. Hope this helps. & hope you feel better.
Avatar f tn started taking zyrtec, seemed to help a little but starts up again so i also started taking zantac along with the zyrtec. i am still getting some hives and itching but now for about the past 3-4 wks now i'm also getting nausea, please help!
Avatar f tn You can take Zyrtec and Benadryl idk about claritin
Avatar m tn (I have lots of sinus infections, have had surgery on my sinuses, etc.) Doc gave me a z-pack and prednisone. Suggested I try Claritin or zyrtec to see if allergies are triggering all of this. Claritin is helping a lot with the post nasal drip, but now the junk in my chest seems tight and I have a dry, unproductive cough. Should I try mucinex to loosen up the chest and continue with Claritin?
Avatar f tn You are not supposed to use Zyrtec during pregnancy cause it's not a class B medication but you can use Claritan or regular Benadryl. Neil Med sinus rinse is awesome and you can pick one up at CVS pharmacy. It flushes out your nose and sinus cavity.
