zyprexa with lithium

Went to therapist today, then to prescribing Phyciatrist changed meds to immediate Zyprexa 10mil to calm her down and Lithium. She has only taken the 10mil of Zyprexa and is totally out of it (like drunk or something) sleeping. I'm worried.....already know to cut down the Zyprexa but am afraid to even give her the lithium. Please help...all I get is the same run around and answers from every dr. even the hospital ER....Can you advise what to do?

i am getting wired on the zyprexa the doctor put me on. i am taking it to help with my depression along with celexa . i have been on the celexa for years. the zyperxa is making me hyper. but a good hyper. i have been taking it for over a week now. now this drug is suppose to make you sleepy. well, it is working the opposite for me. the doctor told no one she has ever had on zyprexa had this reaction to it. if anyone can help me with this, i would appreciate it. i am not feeling so depressed .

Contniue to take mirtzapine 45mg and 5-HTP but considering dumping these or / and further augementation stragegies. Anybody have any good experiences with Lithium ornate as an additional supplement or with Lithium carbonate itself for treatment resistent depression?? Was really hoping that Venlaxine would work as contining to feel very sad and dispondent for the majority of my time with things getting slightly better as the day progresses.

My other question is will being on the lithium help him with his mood swings getting off the zyprexa. He has not done good on medicine for over a year and we want him medicine free for a while since it will be on summer and see how he does, if this doesn't work we will try another doctor, unfortunatly we don't seem to be able to find one locally in our insurance company.

When I stopped I lost the 40kgs just like that. With the lithium I am now excericising regularly including hard work outs with kickboxing, walking and gym. I haven't lost any weight and am thinking it is mainly water retention from the lithium . I am now on 250mg of lithium and zeldox since a reduction in dec 2010 but still no weight loss. Help !!! any tips on reducing the effects of the fluid retention!

Sorry, I ment to say that Lithium can be used instead of Zyprexa to help with Depression and anxiety. The two drugs are completly different and work in a completly different way. Try the Zyprexa for a while and give it a chance. It may work well for you. I also take meds that can cause weight gain, but I stay on a strict Atkins diet and lift weights at the Gym 5 days a week. I happen to be very lean and muscular, so anyone that tells you psychotropic meds will make you fat is not correct.

I have been on BP meds for several years. About a year ago I was diagnosed as diabetic. I've heard that the zyprexa and others like it can cause high blood sugar. Diabetes also runs on both sides of my family. Are there any mood stabilizers out there that don't cause Diabetes? I like the Zyprexa because it works really well for me. I guess I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there like me?

Zyprexa is a mood stabilizer for mania not depression. You dont have to gain weight with zyprexa. Go for 6 small meals a day with a carb and a protien. No sodas and sugar. I have lost 46 pounds and I have been on zyprexa for about 7 years. I am loosing 30 more.

Lithium messes up the thyroid, when it's messed up it causes weight gain. Anti depressants kill sex drive. A lot of mood stabilizers have an anti depressant type of chemical in them. So for 2 reasons I would get off the Lithium. Thyroid and sex drive problems. Most important is to have blood tests run to see how much your thyroid is messed up and go from there. You will prob. need meds to straighten that out.

but be sure to have your thyroid checked while on the lithium Lithium destroys thryoids so it is bst to have it checked and it is good to have it checked anyway because malfunctioning thyroids will mimic bi polar. Hang in there you are in my prayers.

Once my lithium was too high, I started vomitting. So the doctor had to adjust it With lithium there are alot of blood test that one will go through to find the right dosage. With the aspergers patient the dosage for Zyprexa will be totally different than for bipolar. You are right the high dose is suppose to kinda ATTACK the illness. The high dosages though will kinda put a person in a catatonic state.

My son on lithium and zyprexa wich one can course short term memory problems and problems focusing on tasks such as scoolworkorreading any body ever took this two drugs toghether?????

I took both seroquel and zyprexa for a number of years and had a problem with my legs. I was diagnosed with restless legs syndrome (medication related - a form of akathasia apparantly, or can be). The doctors prescribed other drugs to alleviate this problem, and it worked, unfortunately the drugs he gave me to combat the side effects were actually addictive and now I have the problem of giving those up too.

He seems to try and bring me into his delutions and to go up with him on his highs and drag me down with him on his lows. I was wondering if anybody else has been through a similar situation with a spose or partner that may be able to give me some advice? He is 24 yrs old and comes from a broken home and it seems that his parents have known about these problems but have washed their hands of him.....

The rash side effect of Lamictal can be fatal so thank goodness you are okay. I had not heard of the diabetes with Zyprexa before, I would read the fine print on your med insert for sure. I wonder what Topomax would do for you or possibly Abilify which has fewer side effects, especially in the eating department. Ya know we are unfortunately part of the pharmaceutical rat race and often times doctors have more experience with one med or another due to what the drug reps are pushing.

I'm not sure. I took Seraquel for 4+ yrs with Zonisimide. I gained weight, but I was on Zyprexa for a short time & that does make you gain weight. It's sometimes a trade off, depending on how much it benefits you. In my case it was also my mood stabilizer as I can not tolerate side effects of lithium or Lamictal. Sometimes these medications slow the metabolism. Being aware is a good thing. Just keep paying attention.

Thanks for the info, I found another doctor and he took me off the Zyprexa and put me on lithium and xanax. I feel much better, thanks for your response..

I am bipolar I with mixed episodes. (Also with rapid cycling :) fun stuff...) Has anyone tried any medicines that didn't cause weight gain and didn't cost a fortune. I am on Abilify right now but I am very quickly going to have to change because my insurance isn't that great and it cost me $100. I am on Neurontin and Celexa right now which is great but I can still feel myself going up and down all the time.

I am diagnosed with bipolar disorder. i take lithium ER 450mg BID, Mirapex 1mg for RLS, and zoloft 100mg to treat depression. I can usually fall asleep, however i wake and stay up for a few hours every night. i have tried benedryl,klonopin,trazadone,serequil, and elavil for relief however every one of these meds has a paradoxical effect on me. Any suggestions?

t respond to OTC medicine. I am on 40mg Prozac, 1200mg lithium, and my doctor just put me on 5mg Zyprexa because I am scared and isolating at my job. I guess I just want to know if this med combination makes sense. I also am concerned about the headaches and the constant drowsiness I feel. I told the doctor, but there was no apparent concern about these symptoms. She wants to target the severe anxiety I'm experiencing. I feel like my whole life is haunted.

Just wanting to know a little of others experience with this medication. I have been on it for 6 weeks now and I have gained a lot of weight. Is it all possible to lose weight while taking this med?? I also always feel really exhausted, lacking energy to do what i use to. Has anyone found that their mind switches off when taking it, like I find it difficult to to do anything, I can think about it but not actually get up to do it, like my head is switched off.
