3136619 tn?1345387321 I am wondering if anyone has tried Zydis. I haven't heard much about it on these boards. I've gained enough weight on regular Zyprexa and wonder if anyone has had fewer side effects with Zydis.
1257808 tn?1322762215 Zyprexa is known for causing significant weight gain. Many meds make us really hungry all of the time. If your concerned about weight it is really important for you to look up the side effects of a med before you choose to take it or not. There are meds that are weight neutral. It's a shame so many dr's don't take that into consideration when prescribing these drugs. They don't have to carry the weight, we do! I will not take a drug that is weight gaining no matter what.
Avatar m tn In this case a google search for haloperidol and zyprexa can give you information on both drugs and how they work and their side effects so when your brother sees his doctor he can ask the right questions.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
Avatar f tn (still dealing with it, right now i am suffering from severe sleep deprivation and some really wierd symptoms like confusion, memory loss, severe inattention, etc.....look up zyprexa side effects and withdrawal, it can do some really messed up stuff to you. But on the other hand, not everyone reacts that way.
874521 tn?1424116797 Zyprexa is still on the market. There was just a concern at the time that the company under reported the rate at which it causes diabetes. That issue has been addressed. All atypical antipsychotics can cause diabetes, Zyprexa being the one with the greatest potential.
628714 tn?1268238196 The most commonly reported side effects are sleepiness or excessive sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth and weight gain. Other side effects include akathisia (an inability to sit still), constipation, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension and tremors. Avatar f tn Metformim is a medication used to control or prevent the onset of diabetes and/or regulate blood sugar and this is how it helps with these potential side effects of Zyprexa but you could discuss the specifics with your psychiatrist. What you describe are potential side effects of concern from Metformim so you should inform your psychiatrist.
698408 tn?1256958348 Both medications carry a risk of weight gain but if you know this in advance you can take steps to reduce this. The weight tends to be "water weight", so drinking plenty can help along with the normal steps of regular exercise and watching your diet.
1687493 tn?1305600366 You could try Quetiapine (anti-psyc), which I am on, it really didnt effect my sex drive, however I gained over 30lbs on this, but I am pretty inactive, plus I also am on anti-depressants (Prozac), and that in itself affects weight gain and lower sex drive, so I would say that if you take any anti-depressants you will gain some weight, and your lower sex drive - however, there is a large weight gain with the anti-psyc. Im on...
Avatar m tn agitated than it is manic, per se, The Zyprexa works well for this, except for its notorious weight-gain side effects. I just can't handle the weight issues. Does anyone know of a another drug, that perhaps comes in a rapid-release form, that would make sense as a replacement for the Zyprexa? I'd prefer to take something that can be used on the as needed basis. I will ask my doctor, of course, but wanted to see about other people's experiences. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Why are the side affects of antidepressants sleepiness drowsiness and weight gain? So, I’m supposed to get better from sleeping all day and having no motivation with medication that has these side effects? It makes no sense! They should prescribe Adderall for people who are depressed...
Avatar f tn as iladvocate says zyprexa can cause weight gain even on a normal diet which is frustrating as most of the meds have this side effect. i just started seroquel and am losing weight daily and am hoping to be soon back to normal. please don't panic, it sometimes takes a while to find the right combination of meds for each different person.
Avatar f tn 5 mg it has a pretty strong effect on me. Because of the weight gain I want to know if anyone has found an alternative that works as well as zyprexa?
1655289 tn?1326042889 Thank you for posting your expierence on Topamaz. I will talk to my doctor about Risperdol or Geodone. All I know is I want to get off the Zyprexa because of my weight gain. I'm 5' 2" at 190 lbs way to much weight for my height. I feel terrible and embarassed about my weight I don't want to do anything or let people see me this fat. You are lucky, I would love to be too skinny than fat like me.
Avatar f tn More recently my weight was under control, but I had a bad episode. The stabilizing came from Zyprexa. That drug was really bad as far as weight gain. My metabolism gets all kinds of trouble from meds too.
Avatar f tn The dosage suggestions given to you are correct. the side effects are;The most common side effects for patients taking GEODON for bipolar mania include sleepiness, abnormal muscle movements (such as tremors, shuffling, and uncontrolled movement), dizziness, and restlessness. If there is any heart rhythym problem, this could be a dangerous drug for your son.
Avatar n tn and it is possible to control your weight while on zyprexa. I have been on it for 7 years and at first I did gain gain weight but I have since lost all that I have gained on the zyprexa eat small 6 meals a day and exercise even if its just a brisk 30 minute walk. It will also help with the depression. No caffiene and no sugar as these both aggravate depression in bi polars.
Avatar f tn I weighed in at 195 when I started it but now I weigh 265. I was on Risperdal for over 4 years so that one had a weight side effect too but it kept me stable. Now I take Invega, it's working pretty well after the transfer period. Your choice but I would beware of any psych med.
Avatar f tn unfortunately, this question is inappropriate, without discarouging you, but usually, what matters first is to find a certain combo that works, and that is given 1st priroity. true lamictal is known not to add weight but 1st whether you shall get satisfied with. lamictal or not, however it is also known to give the least side effects. i know a person on depakote, and although it is known to cause weight gain and hair loss he neither suffered from any of them.
Avatar n tn There are even some meds, especially antidepressants, that cause weight loss in some and weight gain in others. I gained weight on most mood stabilizers. The biggest culprits for me were Depakote, Remeron- an antidepressant, and Zyprexa- an antipsychotic. Now I take Lithobid, which is a slow release lithium. It tends to not cause as many side effects as regular Lithium. I am also on Seroquel. I was finally able to lose all of the weight I gained.
Avatar n tn The one side effect of concern that differs from one antipsychotic to another is that of weight gain and the potential of diabetes and with that one Zyprexa has the most risk out of all of them. I when I was on Zyprexa gained 35 pounds. However, that starts with weight gain and if that doesn't happen in him it should not be a problem. If it is there are other antipsychotics but Zyprexa has the best mood stabilization ability. If you want full information go to the medication websites.
