zyprexa vs lithium

He will be on 300 mg. lithium at night. I would like to keep him on the lithium till the zyprexa is gone, but he is 18 and might not go along with this. He has had really bad withdrawls from the zyprexa at least 4 times went to the hospital with increased cutting withdrawls. Do you think the low does which totals 7.5 mg will be troublesome to remove at this point. He is not switching to any other meds. because they just seem to bring out the worst in him.

I am diagnosed with bipolar disorder. i take lithium ER 450mg BID, Mirapex 1mg for RLS, and zoloft 100mg to treat depression. I can usually fall asleep, however i wake and stay up for a few hours every night. i have tried benedryl,klonopin,trazadone,serequil, and elavil for relief however every one of these meds has a paradoxical effect on me. Any suggestions?

Went to therapist today, then to prescribing Phyciatrist changed meds to immediate Zyprexa 10mil to calm her down and Lithium. She has only taken the 10mil of Zyprexa and is totally out of it (like drunk or something) sleeping. I'm worried.....already know to cut down the Zyprexa but am afraid to even give her the lithium. Please help...all I get is the same run around and answers from every dr. even the hospital ER....Can you advise what to do?

I'm on Lithium, and it's a very safe drug - extremely high doses have to be monitored careful, like many other drugs. I get my blood sugars checked for Seroqual, which I don't mind, it's a fantastic drug along with Lithium. I was on Lamactil alone but I became suicidal again, my pdoc put me on 300mgs of Lithium and it was only 2 days and wow what a difference. Since then, I've only had minimal depression. .

hi there just wondering how anyone else deals with rapid cycling, I'm talking about being up and in the space of a day I just can't handle this anymore. any advice?

Hello, My psych. tried me on all of the newer atypicals, and I couldn't tolerate any of them. She talked me into giving lithium a try. I'm also working my way up to 400 mg. of Lamictal a day, but that is so expensive, I don't know if I can afford it. My questions are about lithium. I was hesitant to try it because of its reputation for causing weight gain. She started me on just 450 mg a day, and I already feel better.

thanks so much. i have never been on anythng like zyprexa, i took it last night. it di dnot knock me out at all. but it made me sleepy. i woke up with less anxiety. i guess it takes a while to get into your system. i went on a site aabout zyprexa. a lot of people had awful side affects. like gaining weight. well, i i only low cal food. lots of veggies and fruit. doctor told me i will not gain weight if i watch wht i eat. plus i go the gym every chance i get.

I have been on BP meds for several years. About a year ago I was diagnosed as diabetic. I've heard that the zyprexa and others like it can cause high blood sugar. Diabetes also runs on both sides of my family. Are there any mood stabilizers out there that don't cause Diabetes? I like the Zyprexa because it works really well for me. I guess I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there like me?

If given a choice between an antipsychotic (Zyprexa) and a mood stabilizer (Depakoate) I would choose Depakoate. Zyprexa does have the risk of tardive dyskinesia. If a person needs an antipsychotic of course they have to take one but Depakoate does not have that risk. Zyprexa also has a severe risk for diabetes. All of the atypicals do but Zyprexa is most likely to.

So Friday I went in and had my blood drawn, as always to check my lithium levels and vitamans and such. I went to work and as I was working my phone kept ringing about 7 different times and I said that someone really needed to get hold of me. Well my mom call the main number and said my pdoc called her to get in touch with me. It was an emergency. I called him immediately. My lithium levels were potentially fatal toxic levels. I used to take 900mg, your standard therapeutic dose.

I know for a fact that the zyprexa causes drowsiness. I have been on 10mg for over a year and it makes me sleep well through the night and into the morning. I'm not sure about the other drug, but the one thing I am sure of is don't let him just get off the zyprexa "cold turkey"!!! Read on here under zyprexa withdrawls about what most of us feel when we are coming off of this drug. You will be surprised on what it does to someone's well being....

I take 1450mg of Lithium a day and my sex drive is still very high. I am 33 and wondering if I am going through my peak?? hmm...... I do not think Lithium effects the sex drive. I could be wrong, but I have had no major side effects from it, just a little shakey in the beginning! Hope this helps.

My son on lithium and zyprexa wich one can course short term memory problems and problems focusing on tasks such as scoolworkorreading any body ever took this two drugs toghether?????

I have tried Seroquel, Seroquel XR, Zyprexa, and Lithium, all in the space of a few weeks... I thought that they were causing me to cycle harder, but I have realized that I am getting the akathisia side effect from them.. When the sun is down, they bring up my mood, but when it's bright out, I get very agitated.. All of these drugs have this side effect as they work on dopamine. I am at a loss right now; has anyone else had this problem? I am slowly running out of medications...

keep him away from meds like zyprexa strong mood stableizers and powerfull anti phsycotics like zyprexa can cuase severe depression! alltuogh in a case of extream mania and or insomnia one 10 or 20 mg pill of zyprexa well knok it in the dirt! I keep them on hand for severe mania. I wuold recomend lithium and fish oil together the lithium must be taken at the same times. he can eat fish oil as much as he wants it is verry helpfull it well amplify any bipolar med in a good way.

They firsy put me on lamictal and I wound up in the hospital with serious rashes. Now, I am on zyprexa qhich makes me want to eat everything in sight. It seems to have me syabilized but now I have read about the countess thousands of people who have gotten diabetes from taking zyprexa. I have high blood sugar anyway, so I assume I am at high risk. What should I do? Switch meds? If so, yo what? Or, stay with zyprexa? Any advice would be appreciated.

Contniue to take mirtzapine 45mg and 5-HTP but considering dumping these or / and further augementation stragegies. Anybody have any good experiences with Lithium ornate as an additional supplement or with Lithium carbonate itself for treatment resistent depression?? Was really hoping that Venlaxine would work as contining to feel very sad and dispondent for the majority of my time with things getting slightly better as the day progresses.

Thanks for the info, I found another doctor and he took me off the Zyprexa and put me on lithium and xanax. I feel much better, thanks for your response..

I am on Neurontin and Celexa right now which is great but I can still feel myself going up and down all the time. Or even if I have to go back on Zyprexa has anyone NOT gained weight on it? People told me I would gain weigh on Celexa and I haven't.

t respond to OTC medicine. I am on 40mg Prozac, 1200mg lithium, and my doctor just put me on 5mg Zyprexa because I am scared and isolating at my job. I guess I just want to know if this med combination makes sense. I also am concerned about the headaches and the constant drowsiness I feel. I told the doctor, but there was no apparent concern about these symptoms. She wants to target the severe anxiety I'm experiencing. I feel like my whole life is haunted.

I know that this question gets asked alot but I am about to swap meds again this time onto lithium. I understand that the first few months are quite difficult and was just wondering if i could hear a few of your experiences and is it as bad as i have heard?. Also would i find it difficult to work during this period?

i took zyprexa untill i had wieght gain to the point that it effected my heart it also has the side effect of almost getting rid of your emotions i dont recomend its safty

i resently became very depressed. the doctor has aadded zyprexa to it. it is for bipolar but is also used to boost your antidepressant. it is working well. i feel totally back to normal i do not have any of side affects .it does make me very hungry but i watch what i eat. anyone else taking zyprexa? or celexa?
