zyprexa vs depakote

no depakote isnt better than zyprexa at least for me. I have been on zyprexa for 8 years now and I love it. I am never going to stop taking it. I did gain weight at first but I have since taken off the weight. and I am continuing to loose. through exercise diet and helathy hapbits. You can loose weight on zyprexa/ We just have to work a little harder at it. Depakote made feel like a zombie. I hated it. I am soooo stable and normal with the zyprexa.

I have been to see pdoc today after having a bit of a wobble following 2 months off medication (did not go cold turkey, did it over 3 months). She has prescribed me Zyprexa but I am really scared about taking it, I really don't want to gain weight - I am still trying to lose the weight I gained on Depakote.

He now takes concerta, welbutrin and zyprexa at 7am, welbutrin again at 4pm, 1500mg of depakote at 6pm and concerta and zyprexa at 8pm. The last two weekends in rw at our house there has not been any problems, no problems sleeping and no sudden mood swings.

I am on Neurontin and Celexa right now which is great but I can still feel myself going up and down all the time. Or even if I have to go back on Zyprexa has anyone NOT gained weight on it? People told me I would gain weigh on Celexa and I haven't.

Hi everyone i was diagnosed with bipolar march 2011 im currently on 2000mg depakote 10 mg zyprexa and a sleeping tablet i have just finished 13 years in armed forces and now wondering what to do next and does it sound like a right combo of meds???

I know for a fact that the zyprexa causes drowsiness. I have been on 10mg for over a year and it makes me sleep well through the night and into the morning. I'm not sure about the other drug, but the one thing I am sure of is don't let him just get off the zyprexa "cold turkey"!!! Read on here under zyprexa withdrawls about what most of us feel when we are coming off of this drug. You will be surprised on what it does to someone's well being....

I just seen the doctor today, put me on 120 mg of Geodon and would not let me take kolonopin. Does anyone know what affects Geodon will have on me while taking Zyprexa, depakote, benztropine, and risperdone.

I have been on 1500mg of depakote for 6 months for bipolar disorder and I was wondering does anybody know how to get off this stuff without all the seizures and withdrawals. Any help would be appreciated.

After two months on a low dose of Zyprexa, I started to experience akathisia. More Zyprexa made it worse. Next, I tried Seroquel and it caused akathisia, too. Further, depakote does the same thing""" Now I wonder for this bloody bipolarity how can one resolve the issue of meds. If you give one med up due to its side effects, then by substituting another one you get another worse side efect.

Antipsychotics will all cause tardive dyskinesia and put a person at risk for diabetes and Zyprexa is the prime offender for diabetes. But when Zyprexa worsened my paranoia years ago and it happenned to a friend of mine I knew what was going on. But that's not a "common" side effect. As for "safe" we should be factual.

I currently take 30 mg. of zyprexa,. 1500 mg. depakote, 2 mg. benztropine, 50 mg. of risperdone, and 50 mg. testim . I have gained 70 pounds of fat. When I'm not in a mania I sleep from the zyprexa for 12 hours a night. My anxiety is so high and from all of the side affects, just to name a few I have had diarrhea for the last three years, retrograde ejaculation, weight gain, restless legs syndrome.

jHas anyone tried taking two antidepressants along with a mood stabilizer and had good results? I'm currently taking Depakote and Cymbalta, but thinking of adding Prozac for added depression benefits. I'm also on an antipsychotic, Geodon.

My Pdoc switched me from Depakote to Zoneisamide. It did help the weight gain that I got from Depakote. More recently my weight was under control, but I had a bad episode. The stabilizing came from Zyprexa. That drug was really bad as far as weight gain. My metabolism gets all kinds of trouble from meds too.

I have been on lithium, depakote,luvox and others I cant remember That was after episode1. It made me feel like a zombie and in my job I have to be alert and focused. I told the pdoc I had found in the yellow pages I need to be off all those meds so he put me on the depake. that was better but I still cycled on a regular basis I think it took about 2 years after episode 2 in the hospital. The pdoc put me on the zyprexa and celexa I am on now. It works great for me as long as I take it.

before that i had been on ativan since may 09,,and in jan a dr tried me on lithium depakote and zyprexa all during the month of jan....the last one i was on was zyprexa and stopped it march 2 after only being on it about 2 weeks....im feeling more active than i had been on the prozac but abit more sadness for some reason so dr is upping it to 40 mg////i cnat take it in the am as most people do as it makes me so drowsy....

I guess I should be hopeful, in some ways. When I took the 50mg dose that afternoon, I evened out straight off of the bat. My shrink doesn't really have much of a choice right now as the Zyprexa and Depakote aren't options. I think that we just need to do it slower and that I need to split my dose between the morning and noon; 125mgs when I wake up and 100 at lunch, to start with.

t know which one caused most of the weight gain but feel it is due to the Depakote. I would like to wean off the Depakote. I know I need to wean the medication slowly but don't know whether I should take 500 mg daily and skip a day and then take it again the next or what is best to do or how long to do it. I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have tried a number of medications at different times, usually a combination of 2 or 3 of the following: lithium, prozac, lexapro, seroquel, abilify, risperdal, klonopin, vistaril, zyprexa, ambien, rozerem, & depakote. Zyprexa, Benadryl, Depakote, and Seroquel have caused me to twitch and feel like my skin is crawling an hour (or a few) after I take them.

I have used Abilify for several years. I have not gained weight but lost it instead. I was started on Depakote though & did gain a signifcant amount of weight. But nothing compared to when they put me on Zyprexa. I had every side effect known while on it. I won't say how much weight, but it was considerable... They have put me on Abilify like I said for years, increasing the dose a lil' at a time, till I now take the maximum dose of 30 mg....

I lost weight when I switched from lithium to lamictal (I had gained 50 lbs on lithium and lost about 10 after the switch). I more recently stopped taking zyprexa and have lost the rest of the weight. I am living in a developing country, so being away from fatty american foods is part of it, but I didn't loose weight here until after I went off of the zyprexa.

All antipsychotics CAN make you gain weight, but some are worse than others. Geodon is supposed to be weight neutral, and Abilify mostly weight neutral (won't make you gain or lose). Saphris has gotten a lot of good reviews in the weight department, and I believe Latuda has as well, but these are both still brand only, which might affect insurance coverage (and will affect cost). Unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure if a med will cause you problems without trying it first.
