Avatar n tn i was put on the medication zyprexa, are there any symptoms such as diahrea that can occur from taking the medication for about 3 months and then discontinuing the medication?
Avatar f tn Hi All. Im new to the site but so glad i have found somewhere to talk to people with similar illness. I have been having panic attacks now for 6 weeks related to a health worry. Mines always relate to health worries. I have been on zoloft for years but my doctor put me on Alprax 3 x 0.5mg per day but he doesn't want me to keep taking them because they're addictive. They also suggested putting me on Zyprexa short term.

Avatar n tn I was wondering if anyone on this website is taking zyprexa for racing thoughts and irritability. I started taking it in December for these symptoms but I have put on weight taking this drug. I am not sure if it is the drug itself or if my appetite has increased. In anycase, I am really depressed about this and am thinking of switching medications or just getting off the zyprexa itself. I am also taking 20 mg. of lexapro and this has not caused a past weight gain. Please help!
Avatar f tn Is there any other meds that have the same ability to control the reasons that zyprexa is prescribed for as it is very expensive and I am afraid it could cause a patient to discontinue taking it.
Avatar m tn Zyprexa is classed as an "atypical antipsychotic" medication. It can be prescribed to treat many different mental illnesses and mood disorders, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression. Have you been diagnosed with a certain disorder, or is this med being recommended for your mental state during w/d? There are some considerations when on Zyprexa, you will have to have occasional blood work done, as Zyprexa can cause high blood sugar, increased cholesterol and lipids.
Avatar m tn In January of this year I began using Zyprexa for bipolar and psychosis. After 5 months of using the medication (20mg daily) I began experiencing some sexual side effects such as a dry orgasm, low sperm count, etc. - all of which were unexplainable. My psychiatrist asked that i stop the zyprexa immediately as it was causing an increase in prolactin levels, he asked that i stop the drug COLD TURKEY! (no weaning off) - When I stopped the medication, i did not sleep for 4 days.
874521 tn?1424116797 Zyprexa is still on the market. There was just a concern at the time that the company under reported the rate at which it causes diabetes. That issue has been addressed. All atypical antipsychotics can cause diabetes, Zyprexa being the one with the greatest potential.
Avatar f tn How to Stop Taking Zyprexa (olanzapine) Your doctor should be recommending that you reduce your dosage of Zyprexa by 5mg a day every six days if you need to discontinue Zyprexa. Making it a week is just easier to remember. You can stop immediately if it’s an emergency, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that without a doctor’s supervision. The major problem with stopping antipsychotics is a sudden return of your symptoms.
8798274 tn?1399988458 I am not anxious, paranoid or depressed now but I cannot sleep without taking gabapentin (I am never tired or sleepy, there are other people describing a situation similar to mine after stop taking Zyprexa). I am worry, because the same way Zyprexa can make people have diabetes, it can permanently disrupt other psychological process in the brain an produce this chronic insomnia. I am incline to think that the damage is at the hypothalamus, I am never hungry or thirsty.
Avatar m tn I was given 10 mg Zyprexa by my pdoc for about four months. It stopped working, so he took me off of it. I went from 10mg to 5 mg for a week, then to 2.5mg for a week, then off. This is the 12th day and I've been experiencing intense withdrawal: An extreme anxiety that I've never before experienced, an indescribable, awful feeling, insomnia/early waking, severe and persistent diarrhea, dry heaves and throwing up, unable to eat, etc.
Avatar f tn You have been switched from a antipsychotic medication to a tricyclic antidepressant. Yes Avanza should help more than the previous medication for depression and yes you sleep great on it due to its strong H1 receptors antagonist which will cause sedation.

8798274 tn?1399988458 Hi, as its been a year after stopping the medication, your sleeplessness may not be related to the medication. You seem to have chronic insomnia. The first step would be to rule the causes for insomnia like sleep disorders. Next it is treated with both medical and non medical therapy.
Avatar f tn I took zyprexa for 4 years, gained 50lbs while taking it and developed sugar metabolism problems. After I quit zyprexa, my general doctor, prescribed metformin, which helped me lose the additional weight. But it seems that the sugar metabolism problems are here to stay. When I look back, I wished I was given other options to Zyprexa. In my case the benefits were not worth the side effects. I am not a doctor, but I do think your headaches and other symptoms are drug related.
1848481 tn?1319676852 I found Zyprexa to be sedating as is generally common although each person responds differently to each medication. Some medications did cause me to have insomnia although this is far less common with Zyprexa. Sometimes I found that some medications when they were started or raised would give me a temporary feeling of euphoria which would then go back to stability. I did speak to my psychiatrist and he said this can happen.
Avatar n tn Those two antipsychotics are generally effective although each person responds differently to each medication. As well that should be enough time to see some help from the medications although Zyprexa takes longer to build up to a blood level where it is effective but only a psychiatrist would understand the specifics of this but it would be essential to discuss this with his psychiatrist. At any time that psychosis worsens of course that should be discussed with the psychiatrist as well.
1030383 tn?1338460785 I'm withdrawing from Zyprexa, Abilify, Ativan and sertraline. It's been three weeks and I've had terrible nausea, stomach pain, fatigue, and generally not feeling good. How long will this last? And, any ideas on how to deal with mania since I can't just "knock myself out" like usual? I need to get enough sleep to stay out of the hospital!
1589929 tn?1310066922 For personal reasons I have not been sleeping well, I actually haven't had a good nights sleep in about a month and even if I try to nap during the day I doze off and jump myself awake from the anxiety and stress that I'm under.
628714 tn?1268238196 Hi Zyprexa (generic Olanzapine) is an atypical antipsychotic medication. Zyprexa is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression). The most commonly reported side effects are sleepiness or excessive sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth and weight gain. Other side effects include akathisia (an inability to sit still), constipation, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension and tremors.
Avatar m tn I was taking an anti depressant and an anti anxiety medication as well as the Zyprexa when I left the hospital We cut back slowly on he dosage of the Zyprexa after I was hallucination free for a year, then I took it every other day for a few months when I got to the lowest dosage. Finally my doctor told me to stop it altogether. I believe it IS used for bipolar disorder, for mania.
1623698 tn?1299161234 How long does it take and how do I reduce the amount? I've been changed from Zyprexa to Seroquel because my depression came back. Within days I was extremely dizzy and nauseous and I concluded that it was withdrawal from Zyprexa so the Psychiatrist said to go back on it. Two months later, when I was feeling better, we tried it again but the same thing happened. By this time I was being told that I had an inner ear problem or it was caused by the new med.
