My sister was diagnosed with mood disorder a few weeks ago and was recommended to take Zyprexa (2 pills/day) for 6 weeks to treat it. She took the medicine for 2 weeks and left it without the doctor's recommendation as she used to feel too exhausted and she thought that her emotions were under her control now.
After a week of leaving the medicine, she slowly became hyper and even sucidal.

OH MY DEAR GOD! That child! My heart, my soul, my everything goes out to him and you and his mother! He is over medicated in my BiPolar and Medical Assisting opinion! ODD is just a "label" for young, psychotic Bi Polar I disorder. I am a Bi Polar I with psychotic features and if my "profile' was to be put into a young child I would be labeled ODD. So - *&(^&*() that diagnosis. You need a new PDoc, new meds, new everything.
I took Zyprexa 5mg for 3 nights only to help with sleep, but have not taken it for 2 nights. Had really difficulty getting to sleep and my sleep was really broken up. Is this normal for this med.
It has been almost two weeks since I withdrawn from zyprexa and it looks like it is getting worse everyday. I have used this medication for 1.5 months and my highest dosage was 10 mg that I took for 7 days. Im feeling very weird, not alert or not conscious at all. It feels like Im some kinda zombie without emotions. I can´t even sleep well at night, Im a sleep but awake at the same time. I get panic attacks because Im scared I will be like this forever.
My brother takes 10 mg Haloperidol 15mg zyprexa 30 mg mirtazapine as the haloperidol and zyprexa are for the same things why couldnt he just take a stronger dose of haloperidol as it would be a lot less expensive
when the doctor said 200 was the maximum he accepted that. He does seem to be doing well, but I am worried. what chance is there of his ever getting off of it, or at least onto a lower dose?

Your doctor should be recommending that you reduce your dosage of Zyprexa by 5mg a day every six days if you need to discontinue Zyprexa. Making it a week is just easier to remember. You can stop immediately if it’s an emergency, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that without a doctor’s supervision. The major problem with stopping antipsychotics is a sudden return of your symptoms.
I was prescribed 5 mg. Zyprexa for sleep for about a little over a month. My psychiatrist then told me I should get off it so I started tapering off to 2.5 mg for ten days then stop. The first two days after I stopped taking the med. I was o.k. the next few days, I have very bad insomnia and could not fall asleep at all, so I called my psy. . He said cutting it down to half a pill at 1.2 mg. should be sufficient and that I should not have any problem.
So he came to the conclusion after a few questions that I was Bi-Polar? So he put me on 5mg of Zyprexa once a day. I took the Zyprexa as perscribed, however I lost my job and my insurance as well. About 4 days after stopping the pills I had what I can only describe as a nervous breakdown. I was hit with an absolute feeling of being worthless and had the most severe anxiety I have ever dealt with.

did gain a signifcant amount of weight. But nothing compared to when they put me on Zyprexa. I had every side effect known while on it. I won't say how much weight, but it was considerable... They have put me on Abilify like I said for years, increasing the dose a lil' at a time, till I now take the maximum dose of 30 mg....
However, it is common practice to increase medication dose to help control blood sugar (the maximum dose of metformin is about 2500 mg/day, in split doses). Some people do take their medication before eating. Please discuss changes in medication dosing with your md.
You may also find that restricting carbs (eat more fat, non-starchy vegetables instead to replace the calories) may help in reducing your blood sugar.
Yes Zyprexa was extremely sedating for me. I slept 10 hours a day on it. Out of all the antipsychotics Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris are generally the least sedating but each person responds differently to each medication.
I'm interested to hear of successful weaning stories--of people getting off zyprexa and for how long you have been off the medicine. This is my goal and I could use some encouragement. All the doctors and therapists I have spoken to say that it is extremely risky to go off medication and think that all symptoms of mental illness will return. Do those of us who want to be medication free have any hope? Are there any natural remedies that help with bipolar disorder?
If you stop use of the Tylenol PM, it may take up to 2-4 weeks for you to adjust to falling asleep without the medication, but there should be no other problems. The current recommended maximum daily dosage of acetaminophen, commonly known as Tylenol, is 4000mg (4 grams) in a 24 hour period and one tablet of Tylenol PM contains 500mg of Acetaminophen and 25mg of Diphenhydramine. Therefore, if you take 2 tablets (1000mg or 1 gram) each night you are not exceeding the maximum daily dosage.
