Zyprexa high

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa high

zyprexa

My brother (46 years old, dx at age 17) has been on 20mg/day of Zyprexa for approx 1 month (we switched him from haldol injections). He is schizophrenic, lives with me, & is a heavy smoker (approx 3-4 packs/day with no current interest in stopping although he did kick the caffeine habit). I've been reading up on zyprexa & smoking and noted that zyprexa clearance is 40% higher in smokers vs. non smokers.
Dizziness, btw IS a common side effect of the Zyprexa...you had asked about that previously. As for stopping the Zyprexa, check with your doctor of course, but just stopping should not be a problem at all after only a few days. You shouldn't have any adverse effects stopping it abruptly at this point. Zyprexa takes at least 3-4 weeks to really start doing its thing. Let us know how you're feeling, and again....give your doc a ring....it doesn't hurt to be cautious. Take Care.
The outpatient doctor however didn't agree and wanted her on 30 to 40 m.g.'s zyprexa and that is where we were headed ,listening to her prescription. She also wanted her to go off Ativan cold turkey - no weaning. My daughter didn't respond well to that and everytime she tries to go down on the dosage now .5m.g. a day (very small amount) she gets closer to catatonic.
I was having racing thoughts and anxiety and my heart would race. My doc then put me on Zyprexa I was on it for a wek and a half and I was slurring my speech and could not finish a single thought and kept having muscle twitches.
This thread to harm zyprexa users. This discussion is not useful.
Weight gain can be a problem with all antipsychotics and Zyprexa has a high potential of this but everyone responds differently to each medication. From what my psychiatrist told me all antipsychotics increase the seizure threshold but if she has a seizure disorder her psychiatrist should be following up with the doctor who treats her seizures.
Has anyone when they started taking Zyprexa had problems like these come up stronger then before? I know Zyprexa is supposed to treat stuff like this, I was just wondering if Zyprexa could be part of my problem as well? I'm predisposed to have manic depression or a slight case of it as my mum's mother had it. But I don't remember it being this strong before. So yeah, I just wondered if Zyprexa was making me more bipolar rather then helping.
Did any of you develop hyperglicemia or diabetes after taking zyprexa? Did your sugar numbers went back to normal when quitting the medication? Are the sugar problems caused by zyprexa reversible?
5 mg - yes I broke down the pills and sorted them. 3) I took high quality Omega's 3's (high in EPA). And I started taking Advanced B complex supplements (with Choline) last week when I was struggling as I read they help restore or maintain a chemical in your brain that is depleted when you discontinue. -my withdrawal symptoms were typical: crying spells, restlessness, angry at times, dizzy or just feeling 'out of it'.
There are some considerations when on Zyprexa, you will have to have occasional blood work done, as Zyprexa can cause high blood sugar, increased cholesterol and lipids. If you are at increased risk for heart disease, there may be some risks that you would want to talk to your doctor about.
And if they're high your doctor may switch meds or take you off zyprexa. So sorry to hear about the loss of your baby!
anyone wondering about getting high of zyprexa i took 3 2.5mg pills and im pretty laxed.
Hello everyone! I was on Zyprexa for about six months, and found that it helped treat a bunch of my symptoms. I'm happy that I don't have to deal with all the faces and the voices. However, I miss some of my friends. I have two recurring buddies" as I call them. Jack Nicholson happens to be one of them. He comes and goes, rarely ever speaks, and if he does it's only a few words. Usually just has amazing facial expressions.
It's been horribly agonizing. I was never on a high dose (1.25 mg/day) but it was high enough to not be able to quit cold turkey (tried 4 times). I worked with my pdoc and had my wife on board and tapered over 5 weeks and finally, when I was down to 1/4 of a 2.5 mg tablet twice a week, cut the strings. I'm currently on day 17 and this past weekend was simply hell. I can't describe it. On any day I can experience panic, anxiety, depression, feeling like a zombie all within a couple hours.
Dont be afraid of the zyprexa. Zyprexa does not make you gain weight. the intake of more calories than you use is what you makes you gain. weight. I did initially gain weight when I first stated the zyprexa but I have since lost what I gained and I am continuing to loose more with healthy diet.30 mins a day exercise Take your thyroid med in the AM when you wake up. wait at least 4 hours before taking any other meds. Take the zyprexa at night before you go to bed.
Zyprexa is still on the market. There was just a concern at the time that the company under reported the rate at which it causes diabetes. That issue has been addressed. All atypical antipsychotics can cause diabetes, Zyprexa being the one with the greatest potential.
During my visit today I saw that a new medication was administered. It is Zyprexa. I came home and read about it on the internet and am very concerned that she is getting this med. What I read is that it isn't to be given to the elderly who have dementia, anyone with difficulty swallowing, which she has and parkinson's. Should I be concerned?
You do not need an anti-psychotic drug like zyprexa for partial complex seizures. In fact it clearly says DO NOT GiVE ZYPREXA TO PEOPLE WITH A SEIZURE DISORDER!!!!!!! No wonder she hallucinated. The best thing I found is Klonopin to reduce my seizures. I take 10 MG a day but you can take as high as 20 MG a day if necessary although that is about the top limit. Tegretol is a stronger drug with heavy side effects. You have to take heaps of it to control temporal lobe partial complex seizures.
I've had a rough several days and saw my psychiatrist today. He gave me Zyprexa. This is only a short-term "band-aid" for 3 or 4 days max - and hopefully not that long. I have never taken it before. I read all that teeny tiny print in the insert, but none of it was for such brief usage. What should I expect? How should I feel? He is trying to get me back to a more normal state, but is hoping for sleep. Sleep is fine, but he wanted me to start right away and I've had a dose.
My fiancee currently takes 5 mg Zyprexa at night, 20 mg Paxil daily and 50 mg of Atenolol twice daily. He also has sleeping problems. Lately he has been experiencing extreme weakness and we are very concerned. Don't know if it's the sleep loss or the Atenolol as he did have a cardiologist tell him that his dosing of Atenolol daily was quite high. Any insight would be wonderful!!
i work out several times a week and i am on a high fiber diet. i guess i am the only patient the doc has had that zyprexa has gotten peppey on it. all her other patients get sleepy on it and have to take it at night . i have to take it in the morning. my body reacts so different to meds. i know sleeping pills do nothing for me. thanks so much for replying.
I do have the 2.5 mg of zyprexa. What are the side effect of coming off and how long does it last? How long should I stay on the 2.5 mg of zyprexa?
i am getting wired on the zyprexa the doctor put me on. i am taking it to help with my depression along with celexa . i have been on the celexa for years. the zyperxa is making me hyper. but a good hyper. i have been taking it for over a week now. now this drug is suppose to make you sleepy. well, it is working the opposite for me. the doctor told no one she has ever had on zyprexa had this reaction to it. if anyone can help me with this, i would appreciate it. i am not feeling so depressed .
When the physicians were bringing me off my high Xanax dose (ten years ago) I was put on Zyprexa. It was like a miracle. Anxiety gone, slept good, amazing. But I happen to beone of the unfortunate few that began to suffer from Tardive Dyskinesia or involuntary muscle movements. My lower lip would tremble and go crazy even while talking. Scared me, since I then read that such side effects can be irreversible-permanent. I quit Zyprexa.
I am a 22 year old female being treated for bipolar disorder with zoloft and zyprexa for a recent severe manic episode. my doctor and i decided to end the zyprexa and so i stopped taking it for one night with the intent to gradually reduce the frequency. the next three days were horrible. i felt manic one night, with racing thoughts and compulsive repetitive body movements/twitches and elation. the next day i was moody and depressed, i felt angry and ugly and stressed out.
i am taking citalopram and zyprexa for depression. i am on vicodin for shoulder pain. since i have been on the pills i have not needed my pain pillls. i am wondering if anyone has experienced this. did the depression cause my pain? i have not had any bad side affects on the zyprexa. in fact i have so much energy now. i tend to get into deep depression so bad i can hardly get out of bed. i have been taking the zyprexa for about 4 weeks now. the doctor put me on since my citalopram needed a boost.
I am without invega now for 2 days and placed on zyprexa taken so far 2 days. Can anyone tell me when I will feel better. I am exhausted, listless, get dizzy When standing and terrible nausea. No appetite. I also have ideas of reference in my Psychosis. High anxiety. He also put me on cogentin for uncontrollable muscle Movements of my tongue rubbing my teeth all day. This is day 3 and it's still happening. I guess it's a lot of mental strain changing all these meds at once.
i came of Zyprexa last year because of high cholesterol and trigliceride levels. i had to fight to come off in a way. i was told there are no withdrawal symptoms. i slowly tappered off the medication over months and still had terribly sleep problems, night sweats , constant nausea, and appetite loss. on an emotional level every trauma that happened in my life came up. i cried more in three months than in my whole life together.
All antipsychotics can cause weight gain, sedation, high blood pressure and the potential for diabetes. Zyprexa however is the most likely out of the antipsychotics to have that potential. Zeldox has less of a potential but it does have some cardiac concerns. You might inquire about Abilify. As well two recently released antipsychotics are Fanapt and Saphris. Their side effect profile is similar to Abilify. You should speak to your psychiatrist about all this and see how they can help you.
He is on his second antidepresent called Elavil and now they are wanting to add Zyprexa to be taken with the Elavil. Lots of other sides but these seem to be the worse at the moment. Going into his 5th month of treatment. Pretty much a struggle the entire time. Today first day back to work in weeks. Viral counts almost undetectable, however the ALT and AST remain above the 150's. Much more to say but for now just needing feedback on this new drug they want to try.
