Zyprexa getting off

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa getting off

zyprexa

Avatar n tn I'm interested to hear of successful weaning stories--of people getting off zyprexa and for how long you have been off the medicine. This is my goal and I could use some encouragement. All the doctors and therapists I have spoken to say that it is extremely risky to go off medication and think that all symptoms of mental illness will return. Do those of us who want to be medication free have any hope? Are there any natural remedies that help with bipolar disorder?
789911 tn?1368636783 I explained to her that even though I thought the zyprexa was helping me with my anger management at first, it really doesnt seem to be helping after all. Im getting nervous and a tinge frightened that this symptom may not go away. I really dont know what I would do. I have decided to stop taking the zyprexa and before that have also stopped all the anti depressants that i was trying over the course of this treatment.

1623698 tn?1299161234 If you are the type of person who cannot get off of the zyprexa easily, plan on a very long, slow withdrawal. It took me about 6 months to come off of a 2.5 mg. pill. Finally the pill was down to 1/16th - then I took it every other day for two weeks, then I stopped. It has been about a month since I have totally stopped zyprexa and I still have nausea (but it is manageable) and tons of itching. The doc suggested I try it again - that itching/nausea are a sign of stress. I.will.never.take.
Avatar f tn t sleep when I took that, which makes no sense since people take it to help insomnia. How long do withdrawals last getting off this drug and what can I do in the meantime? Please help!
Avatar m tn Is there anyone who got off Zyprexa and with Natural medication getting this Zyprexa and left on Natural medication and then off Natural medication. And felt alot better no symptoms of bipolar or Pschysoaffective?
Avatar f tn Has anyone found that their mind switches off when taking it, like I find it difficult to to do anything, I can think about it but not actually get up to do it, like my head is switched off.
Avatar n tn In anycase, I am really depressed about this and am thinking of switching medications or just getting off the zyprexa itself. I am also taking 20 mg. of lexapro and this has not caused a past weight gain. Please help!
Avatar n tn I am so sorry that a Dr. would prescribe this class of drug for insomnia. Were you diagnosed as psychotic, bipolar, or something else? This class of drugs are called antipsychotics. When we need quality sleep, there are plenty of sleep aids available that are quite effective - Ambien, Sonata, etc., to name a few. Who is rx'ing this drug to you? If you want to get off of this, I suggest you find another physician, hopefully a well qualified psychiatrist, who will help you in the withdrawal.
559058 tn?1215810834 I'm bp, been on Zyprexa for 5 yrs off and on, gained weight of course, and know that it has tons of other side effects. But I know Depakote is not without side effects either -- like constipation, liver damager etc. What's worse? Plus, I know it causes weight gain also. What do you guys think? Thanks!
Avatar m tn My brother takes 10 mg Haloperidol 15mg zyprexa 30 mg mirtazapine as the haloperidol and zyprexa are for the same things why couldnt he just take a stronger dose of haloperidol as it would be a lot less expensive
Avatar m tn Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.
Avatar f tn my family dr handles all my bipolar meds but you might try a psych just so you can get off the medication. alot of drs will not take you off without you going to a psych to get their professional opinion. in any case good luck.

Avatar m tn I have had four months of nausea and dizziness because my dr. took me off Zyprexa and put me on another med. I thought my symptoms were from withdrawal but he said that I shouldn't experience withdrawal from Zyprexa, especially since the new drug, Seroquel, was in the same class. So I was told I had an inner ear problem for the last four months and have been suffering through these symptoms.
Avatar f tn I was on Suboxone for about three months and then I relapsed. I was taking 8mg a day for two days, then just one 8 mg a day for the rest of the time. It is crucial to talk to your doctor...(thats one of the reasons I probably relapsed). Suboxone made me feel very normal..kinda weird for a few days. Almost, like I didn't know what to do with myself. Keep busy and try to get some vitamins and a sleep aid.
1082697 tn?1260064616 Very important to keep in mind that for people with Major Depression Vicodin or any Opiate based drug can worsen the depression and anxiety. As far as your Vicotin, I think it's great that your getting off them and doing so will only improve your depressive condition further.
Avatar m tn Will Abilify help me adjust from tapering off pain medicine while at the same time , removing the zyprexa, and deal with my anxiety and bipolar issues? I cannot remain on anything that makes me as tired as zyprexa or seroquel anymore, it’s not helping with the major depression.
Avatar m tn My doctor instructed me to hang on to the Zyprexa for emergency situations, but took me off of Abilify and replaced it with Geodon, which "it's claim to fame" (as she put it) is that it's least likely to cause weight issues, among the atypicals. 20mg twice daily. So far it is working well, and I get slightly drowsy but I'm not eating everything in sight. So now the regimen is Lexapro 20mg, Geodon 20mg/x2, Clonazepam 1mg/x3, and Trazodone 150mg/bedtime.
Avatar f tn hi, im a 23yr old woman who experienced her first episode in october last year, i was at first on 20mg of zyprexa and 1000 mg of epilim when i was in the hospital, and have slowly come down to 1.25 mg of zyprexa and 200mg epilim, been on the 1.25 mg of zyprexa for around a week now and want to reduce further, any advice on how to get down to nothing without going mental! went cold turkey off the meds in nov last year and it didnt go too well.
Avatar m tn My doctor has put me on Lamictal 25mg in the morning with my usual morning dose of Efexor 150mg. He has also put me on Zyprexa 5mg to help me sleep, as my sleep has been very broken, and I became very anxious. Will it be difficult to come off Zyprexa as I don't want to be permanently on this ? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have been 100% off of zyprexa for 9 weeks now. Thank Heaven!!!! I unfortunately took it for a long, long time. Went from 10 mg down to 7.5, then 5, 2.5, 1.25, then nothing @ all. This weaning process took me almost 2 years total!! The reason for this long process was that my sleep was affected for the entire duration of detoxing. (I took sleeping aids/pills for 7 months straight every single night, beginning last Fall--bad, bad idea)....
