Avatar m tn After two weeks of taking Zyprexa, she came out of the psychosis, and has had no psychotic symptoms since. Her thyroid level is now normal, and due to weight gain, and the desire of not wanting to take medication that potentially is not needed, we have decided to stop taking Zyprexa. After taking 20mg for almost one year, we have decreased to 10 mg. She has been on 10 mg now for about one month, with no signs of withdraw, or other psychotic feelings.

Avatar f tn I started 5 Mgs of zyprexa about 5 days ago for psychosis, mostly "ideas of reference" the zyprexa is now added to my seroquel since I weaned off invega. So far, I am having less ideas of reference but not totally gone. Didn't expect a miracle in taking it less than a week. Can anyone please let me know their experience with zyprexa. How long it took to work and how it helped you. I would appreciate any advice and information on it.
Avatar f tn My son is 20, and has recently been treated with drugs for psychosis and depression (zyprexa and pristiq). He tells me that he has had drugs before but isn't addicted to them, and his psychosis and anxiety had nothing to do with drugs.
Avatar n tn I gave birth to my first child in 03/04/09 and was hospitalized on March 12th with postpartum psychosis. I was hospitalized for 12 days and was put on Zyprexa. I have been taking 25 mg each day (20 night, 5 day) since 3/12/09 (almost 4.5 months). My psych has decided to cut my dosage by 5 mg starting this froday 7/24/09. Has anyone else expereinced this trauma and I appreciate any thoughts.
Avatar m tn t think there is any direct health risk (heart attack for example) for skipping 2-3 doses. Zyprexa have a relatively long half-life that can be more than 48 hour. The side-effects you can get from skipping doses are more neurobiological, excess dopamine for example that could produce schizophrenia symptoms, psychosis if you are treated for schizophrenia or had psychotic episodes before. The information here is for informational purpose only, it should not be perceived as medical advice.
Avatar f tn My dd is 17, was on Zyprexa for years (like 7 or 8 years) along with lithium carb and others than changed as time went on. She was mostly fine on it until 2 years ago when she started to gain weight. I had noticed cognitive dulling, she has struggled in school quite a bit, after being a straight A student for the first four years of her schooling. We tried to get her off of it last year and it was a huge fiasco, she was a wreck for 2-3 months, alternately sobbed and screamed and rarely slept.
874521 tn?1424116797 While doctors are allowed to prescribe any drug for off-label use, it is ILLEGAL for pharma companies to promote a drug for anything other than what it has been approved by the FDA to treat. Eli Lilly was found guilty of doing this. But hey, it's alright. If you develop diabetes from taking Zyprexa, you can just take Humilin, Eli Lilly's biosynthetic insulin approved for use in type I and II diabetes...
Avatar n tn Well I can say for myself that I'd be concerned taking more than one anti-psychotic at a time. That's how I developed severe tardive dyskinesia to begin with which the rate of developing it as my psychopharmocologist stated "with typicals 5% per person per year and atypical antipsychotics 2.5% per person per year". Every antipsychotic you are one are atypical antipsychotics but I would see no reason you should be on more than one.
Avatar m tn Hi (sorry in advance for the long post), I am a twenty year old male in Las Vegas and have been struggling with mental health problems for my whole life, but only realizing my thoughts were abnormal for the past 2 ½ years. I was first diagnosed as a child with anxiety but we thought nothing of it.
Avatar n tn It is obvious that you have concerns for your wife and for her health. I personally think that you should allow her doctor to treat her. I think it can be damaging when spouses take on this responsibility. Has your wife tried psychotherapy? This can sometimes tease out the main reasons for the depression, etc. I don't know about Sam-E but I have heard that taking stuff like St John's Wort at the same time as medication can be dangerous.
Avatar n tn Some of what you are describing could be neurological so have some tests done to rule that out first. As for psychosis existing in bipolar it can especially in bipolar with psychotic features and schizoaffective as I have made a full recovery from (read through my posts). Zyprexa causes sedation and a fair amount of weight gain from what I've found and is somewhat hard to tolerate. You could ask your psychiatrist about other options as regards antipsychotics.
874521 tn?1424116797 I know for a fact that the zyprexa causes drowsiness. I have been on 10mg for over a year and it makes me sleep well through the night and into the morning. I'm not sure about the other drug, but the one thing I am sure of is don't let him just get off the zyprexa "cold turkey"!!! Read on here under zyprexa withdrawls about what most of us feel when we are coming off of this drug. You will be surprised on what it does to someone's well being....
Avatar m tn OK, I will try to consult with my doctor for Zyprexa (Olanzapine). Wikipedia said FDA approved it for only Mania in bipolar patients not for depression. But I think antipsychotics also reduce depression by looking at the experiences of different people. Can Risperidone also work like Zyprexa? I am currently on it with an anti depressant.
Avatar m tn In January of this year I began using Zyprexa for bipolar and psychosis. After 5 months of using the medication (20mg daily) I began experiencing some sexual side effects such as a dry orgasm, low sperm count, etc. - all of which were unexplainable. My psychiatrist asked that i stop the zyprexa immediately as it was causing an increase in prolactin levels, he asked that i stop the drug COLD TURKEY! (no weaning off) - When I stopped the medication, i did not sleep for 4 days.
Avatar m tn My diagnosis is psychosis
Avatar m tn m maintaining on Lamictal and Celexa, with later additions of bupropion and most recently Strattera for symptoms of ADHD that persisted. RE: Strattera, it helped with concentration, not much with attention, but overall improved mood significantly to the point I feel well and stable more than I can remember in my life. My psychiatrist, however, is concerned that despite my current situation the number of different meds I now take worsens the odds of a good outcome longer term.
Avatar f tn How long did it take for those who have been on meds, (and they are successfully working to get the) for you to get the right medication prescribed? It seems nothing is working for me and it seems to be taking forever.
Avatar f tn And do you know anything that would treat psychosis besides antipsychotics? Can psychosis be controlled by augmenting mood stabilizers? Can it go away by itself? Can it be that in my future manias I will never reach the level of psychosis? Thank you, I am counting on your personal experiences and advice.
Avatar m tn i think im functioning properly,my depression and anxiety and psychosis is under control for the last 3 years or so...
Avatar m tn im on ativan-0.5 to 1 mg,procyclidine-2.5mg,zyprexa-5mg and paxil 10to 20 mg for the last 5,6 years...i am 21,male...i do remember things but forget alot of things i want to remember too, like i watched a movie and i dont remember the scenes, just the outline of the movie,i watched a soccer game, next week ill almost forget it,my brother remembers everything about the game...
Avatar n tn Zyprexa can cause drowsiness when you first start taking it as can Lithium. It takes time for the body to adjust but if after a couple of weeks she is still very sleepy it would be worth discussing the Zyprexa again. Lithium is different for everyone but can cause drowsiness when you first start it, although that doesn't mean it definitely will. I found I was drowsy for the first couple of weeks.
