Zyprexa class

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa class

zyprexa

I have been taking Zyprexa 5 mg along with Prozac 60 mg for the past 3 months. I have been on Prozac for the past 12 years. On Zyprexa I began to experience Edema and weight gain, which was not great considering I have battled an eating disorder for the past 18 years. I called my doctor and he told me to just stop taking the zyprexa and the edema would go away. I asked him if I should wean down and he said no that there are no withdrawal symptoms.
I was put on Zyprexa for insomnia I was suffering after surgury. The doctor felt it was anthesia induced mania and usually lasts about a year. Its been 2 years now and I have been on Zyprexa for 18 months. Ive been trying to get off this stuff, however before I even get completely off I cant sleep, feel dizzy and have eradicate pulse and blood pressure. I currently have had the medication compounded at 31mg per Ml and I am reducing by one Ml every 2 weeks. Iam currently only taking .62mg.
I know a girl being treated with Zyprexa for her eating disorder. Supposedly this drug will clear her distorted thinking that she is fat when in fact she is pathetically thin. I was told this drug causes weight gain and is the other reason she is on it. It is listed as a "thienobenzodiazepine". I cannot find any information on a search of this class of drug. Benzodiazepines are highly addictive and originally they were prescribed as "potentially habit forming".
I am so sorry that a Dr. would prescribe this class of drug for insomnia. Were you diagnosed as psychotic, bipolar, or something else? This class of drugs are called antipsychotics. When we need quality sleep, there are plenty of sleep aids available that are quite effective - Ambien, Sonata, etc., to name a few. Who is rx'ing this drug to you? If you want to get off of this, I suggest you find another physician, hopefully a well qualified psychiatrist, who will help you in the withdrawal.
Help please! I have been on aropax with zyprexa for 12 years I am now taking avanaza half of a 30ml tablet. I feel spacey in the zone. Does this last or disapear? I feel like it's my own little world I'm in. Have I lost control of reality? I suffer from major depressive disorder. I really need some help with this change over is this normal? What is happening to my brain? I sleep well at night and I feel like chatting a lot when on this avanza tablet.
Lately I've seen adds being run on TV can't remember if its on our Canadian channels or the American ones.(?) Its about a 'class action' Law suit for anyone whose been affected by Zyprexa...with diabetic, hypoglycemia or even death....to get in touch with this law firm. Are these side effects common? Has Zyprexa been taken OFF the market????
however, the psychiatrist who diagonsed me with Bipolar put me on lexapro and zyprexa. Now I take Cymbalta and Zyprexa, but I recently decided to stop taking the Zyprexa. I'm a medical student so I wanted to stop the Zyprexa because I was sleeping too much. My physician claims there shouldn't be any problems not taking the Zyprexa, but I find that I can't sleep without it.
How long does it take and how do I reduce the amount? I've been changed from Zyprexa to Seroquel because my depression came back. Within days I was extremely dizzy and nauseous and I concluded that it was withdrawal from Zyprexa so the Psychiatrist said to go back on it. Two months later, when I was feeling better, we tried it again but the same thing happened. By this time I was being told that I had an inner ear problem or it was caused by the new med.
I have been taking 10mg of zyprexa for several years and I have been stablized on it well. however, after a visit to my family Doctor I tested positive for insulin resistance. I learned that Zyprexa is the worst of all the A-typical antipsychotics for causing the side effect of insulin resistance. I asked my Doctor to switch me to Seroquel which,I believe, is less likely to cause this side effect.
When I noticed this I also became very anxious and was put on zyprexa. When I tried to come off zyprexa I was told I had bipolar disorder(manic depression).I have expierenced extremely disturbing anxious thoughts, sleep disturbances, ringing in my ears and a dry mouth while trying to come off zyprexa and am worried that this drug most definitely has withdrawal effects.
I was on Zyprexa for over 15 years after doctors had tried numerous anxiety/depression medicines without positive results. I was convinced that it was a bad drug and I should quit taking it a year ago even though I was happy and just newly married. I thought life was good so I went off cold turkey...Boy o boy. The horrible withdrawals made me feel like I was doing the right thing and that it was a horrible drug because of how bad the withdrawals were.
Elavil is a pretty old school anti-depressant that is not often used as a drug of first choice these days. Zyprexa is from a newer class of drugs and many people report good results from it. Finding the right anti-depressant and the right dosage can take a lot of tinkering and patience. Many doctors who don't treat a lot of depression don't take the time necessary to find the right combo and medication level.
Posted By E Green on October 03, 1998 at 09:48:36: I have been taking Zyprexa for two weeks. Though it is usually indicated for people with schizophrenia, my psychiatrist informed me that it has also proven to be effective for people suffering with major depression characterized by muddled thinking and poor memory, such as myself. He was right on target!

-Put on Zyprexa but couldn't get any from the pharmacy today so didn't get to take any today.... really unfortunate. Have to go back in 2 weeks. Am hopeful about the Zyprexa. Anxiety has been better yesterday and today. I also managed to see my boyfriend today which was AMAZING. I've missed him like crazy. School starts tomorrow. With all the panic I am scared but I've got a hefty supply of Xanax to get me through it all. Hope I can get to class on time and what not.
i took zyprexa it helped but it made me gain weight does the weight come off after you stop taking the med
Yes Zyprexa is an antipsychotic and also fda approved as a mood stabilizer and within a doctor's discretion can be use for other purposes as well. However, although each person responds differently to each medication it is the antipsychotic the most likely to cause weight gain so it would be worthwhile to ask your psychiatrist why they feel this specific medication would be more beneficial than others in its class as its best to know the reasons.
I am tapering off zyprexa. I am now down to 3.75mg from the highest dose, which was 10mg. Lately I have been feeling a compulsion to lick my lips, and my mouth feels a little weird. I am very paranoid that maybe this is a beginning sign of tardive dyskenisia. I am thinking of jumping off at this dose, but when I came off zyprexa before too fast, I ended up in the ER because I was vomiting so much. I don't want that to happen again!
Zyprexa (olanzapine) is an antipsychotic drug. That group of drug if taken for a long time can cause sleep disturbances when You stop it suddenly. I have known people on this drug and similar medications in the same group that could not sleep after stopping this medication for a long time. As Your body is use to this medication and the Zyprexa has the effect of making You feel drowsy and in a daze Your body can become dependant on it given over a certain amount of time.
i currently take zyprexa, prozac, and suboxone. the suboxone is an opiateblockerer. my regular md just told me to stop all my medication. is there anything i could take for my bipolar disorder that will not effect my baby, that i could mention to my doctor, because i dont think its a good idea that i stop my medications like that.is the suboxone going to harm the fetus.
Hi there... Hate to be the bearer of bad news but you are in for one hell of a ride. I was on Zyprexa which is in the same class of drugs called atypical antipsychotics. You should have never been prescribed this for sleep. It is primarily used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorders and are commonly called mood stabilizers. I was prescribed Zyprexa for GAD or general anxiety disorder and told it was a good non addictive choice since I wanted of benzo's like xanax.
Well celexa can cause some weith gain. I take it with zyprexa and zyprexa ios notorious for weight gain. the bes thin to do is to eat healthy and sensibly like 6 small meals a day and exercise. Nothing strenuous it can be just a brisk walk for 30 mins aday. I like to lift weights as well to keep shaped and toned. No sodas and caffienes and sugar.Fill up on fruits and veggies yougurts and such. you can do it I have gone from 225 to 201 on this regimen.
I've read it helps with weight loss too. I'm currently taking Zyprexa causing me to gain 45lbs, I want to ask my doctor if I can switch from Zyprexa to Topamax for my bipolar II. I'd love any feedback on either drug and how it affected you.
I treat a lot of patients with bipolar disorder -- and weight gain is a huge issue with 1 particular medication, Zyprexa. There are a lot of medications that treat depression that have a favorable weight profile. Lexapro seems to have very little weight gain, in my practice. Have you tried any of the SSRI class? Additionally, are you able to sleep properly on the EffexorXR?
It sounds more like something you thought about then had a visual of in your head. Remember speech class? You calm yourself so you think that everybody's in their undees Then you look at everybody and imagine they're all in their undees. The second one sounds like it could be a hypnopompic hallucination, which is a hallucination that occurs when you wake up from sleeping. They can happen sometimes to normal people, but happen frequently to people who have narcolepsy.
Another type of this class of medications is risperdone, olanzapine (zyprexa), and ziprasidone. TIcs increase in times of stress and can also be seasonal, worsening during particular times of the year. Avoiding stress and treating underlying psychiatric problems such as anxiety may help the tics. Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
What side effects would there be, if any , if a person was prescribed zyprexa and had been taking it for 3-4 years, but were wrongly diagnosed and did not need it?
In 2004 I was diagnosed with primary insomnia. At this point, I began taking Zyprexa 5 mg. I was on this med for 6 months. I then took 2.5 mg Zyprexa and 20 mg Celexa, for an additional 6 months. Later, I took Remeron for 6 to 8 months, then Seroquel 50 then 75 mg. After taking Seroquel for 5 weeks I began to have severe muscle spasms in my legs, primarily my right leg.
(This doesn't mean that this will happen on Zyprexa). I too, have looked into the side-effects of Zyprexa and find them disturbing, particularly for us older folks. I would ask to see the studies and protocols for the efficacy of this particular drug coming off of benzos. I also find it a red flag that your Dr. prescribed Ambien when you expressed a wish to wean off Benzos and Benzo-type drugs.
