I am so sorry that a Dr. would prescribe this class of drug for insomnia. Were you diagnosed as psychotic, bipolar, or something else? This class of drugs are called antipsychotics. When we need quality sleep, there are plenty of sleep aids available that are quite effective - Ambien, Sonata, etc., to name a few.
Who is rx'ing this drug to you? If you want to get off of this, I suggest you find another physician, hopefully a well qualified psychiatrist, who will help you in the withdrawal.
i took zyprexa it helped but it made me gain weight does the weight come off after you stop taking the med
I have been taking Zyprexa 5 mg along with Prozac 60 mg for the past 3 months. I have been on Prozac for the past 12 years. On Zyprexa I began to experience Edema and weight gain, which was not great considering I have battled an eating disorder for the past 18 years. I called my doctor and he told me to just stop taking the zyprexa and the edema would go away. I asked him if I should wean down and he said no that there are no withdrawal symptoms.

That group of drug if taken for a long time can cause sleep disturbances when You stop it suddenly. I have known people on this drug and similar medications in the same group that could not sleep after stopping this medication for a long time. As Your body is use to this medication and the Zyprexa has the effect of making You feel drowsy and in a daze Your body can become dependant on it given over a certain amount of time.
Well celexa can cause some weith gain. I take it with zyprexa and zyprexa ios notorious for weight gain. the bes thin to do is to eat healthy and sensibly like 6 small meals a day and exercise. Nothing strenuous it can be just a brisk walk for 30 mins aday. I like to lift weights as well to keep shaped and toned.No sodas and caffienes and sugar.Fill up on fruits and veggies yougurts and such. you can do it I have gone from 225 to 201 on this regimen.
What side effects would there be, if any , if a person was prescribed zyprexa and had been taking it for 3-4 years, but were wrongly diagnosed and did not need it?
Hi there... Hate to be the bearer of bad news but you are in for one hell of a ride. I was on Zyprexa which is in the same class of drugs called atypical antipsychotics. You should have never been prescribed this for sleep. It is primarily used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorders and are commonly called mood stabilizers. I was prescribed Zyprexa for GAD or general anxiety disorder and told it was a good non addictive choice since I wanted of benzo's like xanax.
I was on Zyprexa for over 15 years after doctors had tried numerous anxiety/depression medicines without positive results. I was convinced that it was a bad drug and I should quit taking it a year ago even though I was happy and just newly married. I thought life was good so I went off cold turkey...Boy o boy. The horrible withdrawals made me feel like I was doing the right thing and that it was a horrible drug because of how bad the withdrawals were.
My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
Can anyone give me some info. on zyprexa? Has anyone been given this to help stabalize their mood, during withdrawal? If so, please share with me if you benefited from this, and is this addictive as well?

I am experiencing burning feet,skin sensitivity and pains in my hands and feet during Zyprexa withdrawal,I`ve been on Zyprexa for 6 years and off it for about 5 months now.Please let me know if the burning feet and all other symptoms will go away with time? Has anyone quit Zyprexa successfully?

I was wondering if anyone on this website is taking zyprexa for racing thoughts and irritability. I started taking it in December for these symptoms but I have put on weight taking this drug. I am not sure if it is the drug itself or if my appetite has increased. In anycase, I am really depressed about this and am thinking of switching medications or just getting off the zyprexa itself. I am also taking 20 mg. of lexapro and this has not caused a past weight gain. Please help!
I took Zyprexa 5mg for 3 nights only to help with sleep, but have not taken it for 2 nights. Had really difficulty getting to sleep and my sleep was really broken up. Is this normal for this med.

Your doctor should be recommending that you reduce your dosage of Zyprexa by 5mg a day every six days if you need to discontinue Zyprexa. Making it a week is just easier to remember. You can stop immediately if it’s an emergency, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that without a doctor’s supervision. The major problem with stopping antipsychotics is a sudden return of your symptoms.
hi, im a 23yr old woman who experienced her first episode in october last year, i was at first on 20mg of zyprexa and 1000 mg of epilim when i was in the hospital, and have slowly come down to 1.25 mg of zyprexa and 200mg epilim, been on the 1.25 mg of zyprexa for around a week now and want to reduce further, any advice on how to get down to nothing without going mental! went cold turkey off the meds in nov last year and it didnt go too well.
The treatment of MS pain is very different than ordinary muscular-skeletal pain and involves a different class of drugs that work through the central nervous system.
If you have extreme pain and your neurologist is unable to help control it, be sure to ask for a referral to a pain specialist who better understands neuropathic pain.

The second one sounds like it could be a hypnopompic hallucination, which is a hallucination that occurs when you wake up from sleeping. They can happen sometimes to normal people, but happen frequently to people who have narcolepsy.
It was not getting any better, really it was very severe and I became like a skeleton and very irrational. I changed to a top pshychiatrist she gave me anti psychotic zyprexa 5 mg +anti depressant + wham within 4 days I was completely normal! Now for maintenance (3years down the line) I just take 1.25 mg zyprexa with low dose antidepressant, it keeps me completely stable.
