Zyprexa and mania

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa and mania

zyprexa

874521 tn?1424116797 From what I remember Depakoate and Zyprexa both were extremely sedating for me and Depakoate in general works better on mania than depression. But its better to wait to speak to his psychiatrist before making any changes. Abilify is an antipsychotic that is the least sedating and Lamictal is less sedating than Depakoate and works better on depression. You could ask his psychiatrist about that.
Avatar n tn I have been on 10mg's of zyprexa and it seems to me that this drug is still very strong in the morning and I am very anxious. Later on in the day I feel better. Is this a side effect?
520191 tn?1355635402 Simple question can you take two anti-pyschotic medications at once? And if you can is it better than an a anti-depressant for a mixed mood? - this is because i am on seroquel for anxiety and sleep and i don't want to come off it but i have the choice of going on venlfaxine or zyprexa so if i chose zyprexa would i have to come off the seroquel. I am being treated for bipolar at the moment mixed state.
1655289 tn?1326042889 I would complain to my psychiatrist at the time and she did not take me off the Zyprexa. I moved to a new city, got a new psychiatrist and I remember him telling me he would prescribe geodon, dicontinue the zyprexa, I would lose weight and I would feel better and he was right. Taking zyprexa I would crave carbs. My weight fluctuates nut I am not as overweight as I was and I am not feeling depressed. I also take fish oil which is to help fight depression.
Avatar m tn After many years of tackling treatment-resistant depression, I gave into my doctor's advice and tried Zyprexa, an antipsychotic. Three days later, I felt normal again...a feeling so wonderful I can't put it into words. Give them a try and you may be surprised. Antipsychotics ara not just for "psychotic" people...they have many uses. Good luck!
497950 tn?1255863927 I am on zyprexa and celexa for my bi polar and they work great. I did gain in the beginning but I have lost it through exercise and 6 healthy meals a day. you can keep from gaining on the zyprexa. Plus I decided that I would rather be stable with the weight than skinny and in jail.
874521 tn?1424116797 my son spiraled badly 3 wks ago and was put on zyprexa(now 10mg) and valporate(1000mg) the first week he was full of anxiety...couldn't settle, just paced the floor yet he was depressed and cried alot too. was told this was a mixed state of BP. the second-part of 3rd week he stabilized but in an extreme depression....so low he could barely get dressed or eat, but he pushed himself and even worked. Now a little into the 3rd week he is still depressed although not as bad...
Avatar f tn I take a very low dose of klonopin .5mg and it helps with anxiety and I take it 3 times a day. It helps out and doesn't make you have so much anxiety about what's going around you.
Avatar n tn I currently take 30 mg. of zyprexa,. 1500 mg. depakote, 2 mg. benztropine, 50 mg. of risperdone, and 50 mg. testim . I have gained 70 pounds of fat. When I'm not in a mania I sleep from the zyprexa for 12 hours a night. My anxiety is so high and from all of the side affects, just to name a few I have had diarrhea for the last three years, retrograde ejaculation, weight gain, restless legs syndrome.
2010625 tn?1329372056 After a Manic episode I usually go into a mixed state or rapid cycling, happy one minute and sad and crying the next, my mind is usually still busy and I have mind games, I then usually hit the depression. I know there is also a mania that is like a depressive mania, it has all the symptoms of mania but has depression at the same time, I cant remember what this is called.
Avatar f tn Based on my pharmacy tech knowledge, I came up with a new one called Stavzor, then loxapine, tamoxifen and olanzapine (zyprexa) and risperdal and mirtazapine. These are available in the UK (according to the net...so I hope I am right.) The tamoxifen is mostly for the mania though. The mirtazapine is for the depression....which I think you should have one of each to stabalize. Also, you have to be careful in how you ask for different pills....

Avatar f tn i was diagnosed with bipolar 6 years ago after a head injury and was taking zyprexa. Soon after, I was hospitalized with pancreatitis. The doctors immediatly took me off the zyprexa. Since then I have quit all alcohol and never did take drugs. I am currently taking Lexapro, but i don't feel it is what i need. I am constantly tierd, gaining weight, have constant muscle pain, especially in my feet and legs. I still suffer from mood swings, the ups and downs.
Avatar m tn I am on Zyprexa, Prozac, lorazepam, lunesta and trazadone. I have taken lorazepam for 9 years 1-1.5 mg prn. Dr tries to wean me down but I get sleep deprived the go into full blown mania so he then restarts it. Is it possible weaning off benzos causes mania or is this part of my disorder?
Avatar f tn The most common side effects for patients taking GEODON for bipolar mania include sleepiness, abnormal muscle movements (such as tremors, shuffling, and uncontrolled movement), dizziness, and restlessness. If there is any heart rhythym problem, this could be a dangerous drug for your son.
Avatar m tn We got in to see her psychiatrist and she spilled her guts about denying and covering up the manic episodes in the past. He put her on Zyprexa to knock down the mania and then started her on Lamictal, keeping her on Effexor. That was all about two weeks ago. I guess my question is: is there any chance of a normal life after being diagnosed?
Avatar f tn Join the club, this week has been a rollercoaster of mania and depression. I always get fatigue after mania - been sitting here in the evenings trying to stay awak and then no sleeping properly - mind you I am between jobs (new one starts in a week) so I have not got the stress and noise and constant on the go around me which I guess helps feed my energy. Feel for you.
1082697 tn?1260064616 i am on celexa already now for about 10 years at least . the doctor added the zyprexa. now i know it can cause weight gain and can make you sleepy. well, it is doing the opposite with me. i have so much energy and cannot sit still. i sleep good at night for about 6 hours. i do have to watch what i eat. i have gained 5 pounds and just lost 3 of it this week by working out a lot, the doctor never diagnosed me as being bipolar. the zyprexa is working so well.
Avatar n tn If they thought she had bipolar and took her off Prozac that would make sense because that can worsen mania. Zyprexa is an antipsychotic that is a good mood stabilizer but that is sedating. Abilify is less so but as you said she couldn't tolerate it. Lithium is worth trying. Its the most effective mood stabilizer out there. For myself I found Lamictal had less side effects and was more tolerable but every person reacts differently.
Avatar m tn I've been dealing with bipolar disorder since 2012 and I've gone through 4 hospitalizations due to the manic/psychotic breaks. I've also suffered a few milder hypomanias during last 6 years but I feel exhausted ALL the time I'm not in a mania. I could sleep for hours and still feel extremely tired. It's gone as far as I am calling sick from time to time because I literally am not capable of getting out of bed.
Avatar f tn You may have a problem with taking phentermine as it is a stimulant and can cause mania in some patients. Be careful in speaking with your doctor about that.
Avatar n tn My sister was diagnosed with mood disorder a few weeks ago and was recommended to take Zyprexa (2 pills/day) for 6 weeks to treat it. She took the medicine for 2 weeks and left it without the doctor's recommendation as she used to feel too exhausted and she thought that her emotions were under her control now. After a week of leaving the medicine, she slowly became hyper and even sucidal.
Avatar n tn I'm on Lithium, and it's a very safe drug - extremely high doses have to be monitored careful, like many other drugs. I get my blood sugars checked for Seroqual, which I don't mind, it's a fantastic drug along with Lithium. I was on Lamactil alone but I became suicidal again, my pdoc put me on 300mgs of Lithium and it was only 2 days and wow what a difference. Since then, I've only had minimal depression. .
1030383 tn?1338460785 I went off all my medications three weeks ago. I think it's a good decision, but it's physically a nightmare, and now there are some psychological difficulties as well. My dx is schizoaffective disorder, and I'm coming off Zyprexa, Abilify, Ativan, Sertraline. I'm hiding this from everyone except a couple people - don't want to get thrown in the hospital. Any ideas on getting through withdrawal when you're getting manic, should sleep, and usually you'd take pills??
1082697 tn?1260064616 i am not bipolar and i do not have mania. just plain old anxiety and depression! and it *****! sorry i am ranting ,but i am at the end of my rope. any good input will help, now about the sleepiness, i have never been a good sleeper. i take so many pills to get to sleep at night and i might sleep for 4 good hours. i am never tired, just wired! i do not want to become a zombie taking another pill. i can cut the xanax out , it does nothing for me. and the vicodin makes me crazy.
Avatar f tn That is a tricky question. SSRIs and SSNRIs can be bad if you are truly bipolar 1, 2, or unspecified. They can cause maniac episodes or hypo maniac episodes or worse. Mood stabilizers are the key to bipolar treatment. Think along the lines of Lamicatal first rather than the heavyweights like anti psychotics. How do I know this? I'm bipolar 2 and have taken the SSRI/SSNRIs with hypomanic results.
1255530 tn?1269867619 I'm more manic and have schizo effective manic type. anyhow any suggestions on what worked for anyone else after having bad side effects. I need something for mania, insomnia panic and anxiety attacks.
