739988 tn?1386672969 Try 6 small meals a day with a protien and carb in small portions. I take ayprexa and I have lost 46 pounds and I am not diabetic I love my zyprexa and I am not going to give it up. I did gain weight at first on it but I have since lost the weight. It is possible to keep the weight off on zyprexa.
Avatar m tn He will be on 300 mg. lithium at night. I would like to keep him on the lithium till the zyprexa is gone, but he is 18 and might not go along with this. He has had really bad withdrawls from the zyprexa at least 4 times went to the hospital with increased cutting withdrawls. Do you think the low does which totals 7.5 mg will be troublesome to remove at this point. He is not switching to any other meds. because they just seem to bring out the worst in him.
Avatar n tn I'm on Lithium, and it's a very safe drug - extremely high doses have to be monitored careful, like many other drugs. I get my blood sugars checked for Seroqual, which I don't mind, it's a fantastic drug along with Lithium. I was on Lamactil alone but I became suicidal again, my pdoc put me on 300mgs of Lithium and it was only 2 days and wow what a difference. Since then, I've only had minimal depression. .
1082697 tn?1260064616 Sorry, I ment to say that Lithium can be used instead of Zyprexa to help with Depression and anxiety. The two drugs are completly different and work in a completly different way. Try the Zyprexa for a while and give it a chance. It may work well for you. I also take meds that can cause weight gain, but I stay on a strict Atkins diet and lift weights at the Gym 5 days a week. I happen to be very lean and muscular, so anyone that tells you psychotropic meds will make you fat is not correct.
698408 tn?1256958348 If given a choice between an antipsychotic (Zyprexa) and a mood stabilizer (Depakoate) I would choose Depakoate. Zyprexa does have the risk of tardive dyskinesia. If a person needs an antipsychotic of course they have to take one but Depakoate does not have that risk. Zyprexa also has a severe risk for diabetes. All of the atypicals do but Zyprexa is most likely to.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I have tried Seroquel, Seroquel XR, Zyprexa, and Lithium, all in the space of a few weeks... I thought that they were causing me to cycle harder, but I have realized that I am getting the akathisia side effect from them.. When the sun is down, they bring up my mood, but when it's bright out, I get very agitated.. All of these drugs have this side effect as they work on dopamine. I am at a loss right now; has anyone else had this problem? I am slowly running out of medications...
607502 tn?1288247540 Im getting parasthesia (brain zaps), nausea and manic like no toomorrow - ive taken zyprexa 2 hours ago and no sleep and the 10mg of valium every day is just taking the edge off. 75mg now down from 225..
222267 tn?1253302210 So Friday I went in and had my blood drawn, as always to check my lithium levels and vitamans and such. I went to work and as I was working my phone kept ringing about 7 different times and I said that someone really needed to get hold of me. Well my mom call the main number and said my pdoc called her to get in touch with me. It was an emergency. I called him immediately. My lithium levels were potentially fatal toxic levels. I used to take 900mg, your standard therapeutic dose.
574118 tn?1305135284 The psychiatrists that I have had in the past have put me on a high dose at first (lithium, depakote, and or Seroquel) and then will gradually lower the dosage down to the therapeutic range once I get stable. Once my lithium was too high, I started vomitting. So the doctor had to adjust it With lithium there are alot of blood test that one will go through to find the right dosage. With the aspergers patient the dosage for Zyprexa will be totally different than for bipolar.
Avatar n tn First zyprexa doesnt cause diabetes . the weight gain does . and it is possible to control your weight while on zyprexa. I have been on it for 7 years and at first I did gain gain weight but I have since lost all that I have gained on the zyprexa eat small 6 meals a day and exercise even if its just a brisk 30 minute walk. It will also help with the depression. No caffiene and no sugar as these both aggravate depression in bi polars.
Avatar f tn hi there just wondering how anyone else deals with rapid cycling, I'm talking about being up and in the space of a day I just can't handle this anymore. any advice?
Avatar f tn The opthalmologist informed me that the lithium I am taking can cause rapid eye movement and because I already have a problem with this he thinks the lithium "may" be exacerbating the problem. This in turn is giving me the headaches. He is hoping that my new glasses prescription will make a big difference but has said that if not then I will have to come off the lithium. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced eye problems with lithium or in fact any other meds.
Avatar n tn Talk to your doc about the thyroid and see if there is a different med you can get on. I take celexa and zyprexa and they work great for me. I have lost the weight I gained initially on the zyprexa with 6 small meals a day and walking with my dog every evening. I take my meds at night and they help with my sleep too.
Avatar m tn When t comes to meds, everybody responds differently. However: Zoloft did nothing for me. Yes, I have been on an SSRI and lithium at the same time. It was quite a while ago, and I don't remember what happened. I believe the latest thinking is that bipolar depression is different from unipolar depression and that SSRIs are nor a good idea for people with BP. They can kick you up into mania.
337492 tn?1212458836 I am curious to see how the Wellbutrin and Lithium will work together. So far, it is going really well. Thanks for the tip!
Avatar m tn i have found that the adverse effects of ad's occurs when there is no mood stabiliser in the mix. i found myself very agitated, suicidal and in self harm mode on ad's alone. adding in lithium and xanax and more recently zyprexa seems to be a better mix. no desire to self mutilate anyway. and am better able to deal with the desire to be dead. i now hide all implements that could be used and lock myself in my room until the night is over. criteria for meds for me woudl be.
874521 tn?1424116797 From what I remember Depakoate and Zyprexa both were extremely sedating for me and Depakoate in general works better on mania than depression. But its better to wait to speak to his psychiatrist before making any changes. Abilify is an antipsychotic that is the least sedating and Lamictal is less sedating than Depakoate and works better on depression. You could ask his psychiatrist about that.
1082697 tn?1260064616 Sounds like that Celexa was pooping out on you and you needed the Zyprexa to jump start it. Same thing has happened to me on more than a few antidepressants. Lithium also makes for a good booster drug, but most people don't try it as an add on because they think it's only for Bi-polar.
Avatar m tn Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.
497950 tn?1255863927 I am on zyprexa and celexa for my bi polar and they work great. I did gain in the beginning but I have lost it through exercise and 6 healthy meals a day. you can keep from gaining on the zyprexa. Plus I decided that I would rather be stable with the weight than skinny and in jail.
Avatar f tn Plus it damages your thryoid. I take ciltalpram(celexa) and zyprexa and this combo has been great for my sex life.I am nice and stable and sex is better than ever. talk to your docs and get something else.
337492 tn?1212458836 I offer this has maybe a place to look. I have been taken the Lithium and Bupropion for 15 years, working on amounts and this combo with the Lamotrigine, 6 months. It seem to do well. Side effects minor has look as I see my Doctor at least two times a month. Try to keep a smile as time goes by you will see a bright and happy future. Don't be ashamed of having a deceas that most don't understand, that is their problem not yours.
Avatar n tn That would be nothing to concerned about and especially if the movements and sensations come and go during the day and start again when the antipsychotic is taken. However, if at any time the movements occur through the day and are random and do not go away then you should be referred to a movement disorders specialist to rule out tardive dyskinesia.
