I got zovirax ointment for cold sore but reading i found out ointment is for genital herpes does it really matter ?
I went to the pharmacy. The pharmacist said it was cold sores, and recommend me the Zovirax cream. I used it for a few days and the the painful feeling was somewhat suppressed. However, after stopping using the cream, my lips were cracked and dry and tingling. I tried different lip balms, such as Carmex and Burt's Bee, to heal them, but then the burning and itchiness came back! I then start taking lypsine and applying the zovirax cream.
Our genital skin is very tender and it certainly is never completely smooth. If anything, apply a barrier cream like aquaphor ( or any diaper rash cream ) to help soothe and protect the skin. If the skin starts to get red or itch non-stop, be checked out to make sure you don't have jock itch ( summer sweating tends to cause it ).
I mentioned several times on this forum that a herpes cream called ZOVIRAX can also treat warts. I used it several years ago and it was very effective: the warts were permanently removed in a couple of days and no surgery was needed.

The article says that 'ZOVIRAX can control the severity of warts' but in my case, it did much more than that: it actually cured the infection entirely.
i have got no problem urinating, no burning sensation, no fever, no enlargement of glands etc. However, when i went to doctor today he prescribed me doxycycline and zovirax cream to apply and took swabs for culture. Tthat has caused me to worry if this is herpes or not?...Also i think it may be due to drug eruption as i had been dumb enough to apply the anti-microbial cream continuously for the past 5-6 months applying 2-3 times daily for no apparent reasons.
If you get fever blisters on your mouth often, have your dentist or doctor give you a prescription for Zovirax cream. I have found that if I apply that at first symptoms it effectively stops its progression. Beware, though as Zovirax has teratogenic side effects (can cause birth defects in developing embryos). Don't use this if you are a female and are pregnant or getting ready for a pregnancy. (Wait 90 days).

I'm kinda curious as to what medication was she given to 'apply' on the sores. I asked my Dr. about a cream or something and he said there's no topical medicine for genital herpes.
In my personal experience which is almost none at all, the outbreaks are taking about 1 week to 10 days to heal over but only about 3-4 days of painful open sores (note that I am taking Valtrex to speed up the healing process). But I don't know if that's the average or not.
the cream isn't very worthwhile so don't bother asking for a prescription for it.
Chapped lips is not a known side effect of the herpes antivirals. Probably it's not related. Just continue using lip moisturizers to help with it.
no - amoxicillin is an antibiotic, not and antiviral.
none of those are herpes treatments.
sounds like they were thinking more bacterial infection than herpes.
it is a very insidius disease as it is prone to secondary infections and is very costly due to loss of work and topical and oral treatments.Today I start suppression therapy on Valtrex and Zovirax cream if needed.In the last two years I've had at least ten outbreaks and it is really getting me down.
Is there any new treatments being researched for this disease?
I would think that there would be laser,infrared or any such treatment that may work.
Hello, My Doctor perscribed zovirax cream for a really small ulceration on my labia. it had not gone away in months , never got big or anything , just itched , I had a swab done and it was neg and blood work and was negative. I used the cream on my labia nad arround my peri area and inside the opening of the vagina. Problem is i started getting patches of raised bumps , like pimples and they itch , never had this before now ..
My doctor said it was Herpes, and I was in and out of her office in 60 seconds with a prescription for Zovirax. But after 4 days of applying zovirax 5 times (or more) a day, there's no change.
Could this, after all, NOT be cold sores? Like I say, the blisters have not gone away in six months of first noticing them and this doesn't sound like what I know of Cold Sores.

do you mean zovirax cream? I couldn't find a match for zovicar cream to comment on it. zovirax ointment doesn't really do squat for genital herpes so if it burns, don't bother using it.
If you are expecting the lesions to crust over like a skinned knee, it's not going to happen ( I know, hard not to think that when they talk about the lesions crusting but crusting refers to the stages of healing more so than the appearance of things as they heal ).
though my condition was bad and i was given zovirax (both topical cream and the oral med) i dont think it ever made a difference...in fact, the zovirax cream made my condition worse...i stopped using it and put coconut oil which cleared up my blisters in like 3 days max! is it possible that it could be something else?? i mean the doctor just saw it and said it was herpes and yea there were anti bodies in the blood...but does blood make anti bodies in response to something bacterial?
I have had oral herpes in that area for 20 years and have treated it with zovirax, and in sometimes in recent years, abreva. I went to a derm and he thought it was chelitis that was drying out my lips and causing hypopigmentation. He wasn't completely confident and told me that. I didn't think my lips were very dry at the time, so this was a surprise. He prescribed Aclovate ointment, and I followed his directions.
This all confirmed the yeast infection idea so I thought ok ill bite the bullet ill buy Canisten DUO cream and tablet. it worked, all the symptoms went then a couple of days after finishing the course the red patched came back, then I presumed I done the course properly so I bought another course and used the cream religiously. The symptoms went and then they come back soon as I finished using the cream again. By this point it was like ok I’m going to have to go to a sexual health clinic (GUM).
zovirax ointment isn't really helpful for genital herpes at all. I sure hope you didn't fill that prescription!
