3248373 tn?1346981993 try zonisamide slowly go up to 300 mg have your doctor try you on that it worked for mine, Topomax just made me anger and paranode
735676 tn?1257572226 I have tried Zomig, Axert, Amerge, Imitrix, Maxalt, Midrin, Amitriptiline, Enderol, Fluoxetine, Topamax, Verapamil...and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head. I have meloxicam (7.5 mg) that I take for the pain and I was taking Zonisamide (100 mg) twice daily but that is not helping me either. I am missing entire days/weeks due to this constant pain and am basically at my wits end.
Avatar f tn I have been seeing a regular neurologist to see if she can treat my migraines and am currently on 150 mg. of Zonisamide every night to try to help that, but I am also working with Dr. Gardner at UPMC, who is a Chiari specialist. He believes it is best to eliminate all other possibilities before actually resorting to surgery to treat the Chiari, which I respect. I go back for a 6 month follow-up MRI and consult with Dr. Gardner next week.
15422595 tn?1440452745 She was initially put on Zonisamide but after 2 weeks, she had a couple more seizures. At that point the docs added Phenobarbital. We've had her blood tested and the PB is at the proper levels in her system. The good news is she's not had any seizures since then... the not so good news is that she's still not adapted well to the meds after 7 weeks.
Avatar f tn Dr. David Grider, Big Pine Key, FL put me on Topamax. Topamax saved my life! It is/was used for treating Epilepsy/seizures. Researcher's found it seemed to block and "cure" Migrains. Perhaps, it cured me. But God in Heaven, please give me back my memory. I appear unintelligent, ignorant and disinterested in what friends have confided in me-e.i., their expectations that I will retain what may trouble or bring them joy.
Avatar f tn Everybody is different and responds to medication differently. The best and most all-around useful mood stabilizer for me has been Topamax. It is an anti-convulsant, also indicated for propylaxis of migraines (which I also have). The great side effect, if you're overweight, is WEIGHT LOSS. Be careful, though. I've lost 54 lb. in 10 months; now underweight and have continued to lose, in spite of attempts to gain.
Avatar f tn Hi There. I know what you are going through. My dog (12 year old Beagle) started having seizures in Jun 2014. My dog went through about the same thing your dog is going through. Apparently, my dog is very sensitive to PB. Have tried several dosages on her & she does ok with a very, very low dose but the seizures come back in 2-3 wks. Right now she is taking 1/2 tab in a.m., 1/2 tab in p.m and every other evening she takes 1 full tab (this is 16.2 mg).
Avatar n tn I have a 1 year 4 month old German Shepherd named Melo who's been having seizures since he was 1. I just wanted to share my experience because I know its comforting to hear stories of other people that are going through what you're going through, makes you feel less hopeless. Melo had 4 seizures in the span of 2 hours, he's taking 300mg of Zonisamide every 12 hours but before take refill arrived he had ran out and that's when the seizures happened.
Avatar m tn t find a workable dosage of phenobartibal, you might want to ask your vet about either Dilantin, Valium, potassium bromide, felbamate, or a different type of anti-seizure medicine that can be used in conjunction with potassium bromide and/or phenobarbital together called Zonisamide. Zonisamide is totally unrelated to any of the other anticonvulsants, but, like Keppra, the full extent of its side effects is not yet known so to some vets, it is somewhat controversial to prescribe it.
Avatar f tn Keppra (levetiracetam) is mostly excreted by the kidneys are is one of the safest drugs speaking in terms of therapeutic vs. toxic blood concentrations. Other drugs include zonisamide, potassium bromide, etc. A large percentage of dogs respond to one anti-seizure medication. For some, one is not enough and they need 2, 3, or 4 others! (I have seen it). It is not excessive to have more than one drug. Each drug works on a different receptor in the brain.
Avatar m tn The vet did bloodwork and put her on zonisamide 100mg twice a day. She continued having them so vet doubled her dosage to 200 mg twice daily. She continued having them but they were much shorter in duration. So the vet added phenobarbital 1g twice daily in addition to her zonisamide 200mg twice daily. My question is about the side effects. It has been a week since the pheno was added and she is still very clumsy and can't even walk up stairs.
Avatar n tn You need to call the lab where the tilts are done and ask what drugs interfere with the tilt table test protocol and they will have you go over your med list and tell you which meds you need to go off and also how far in advance you would need to be off of them; if you do need to go off meds, you'll then need to talk to your doc or pharmacist to find out if you need to taper off or can go cold turkey on/off the meds for the test.
1577473 tn?1296177286 in my area to be seen by a neurologist. I saw the doctor for the first appt and she put me on Zonisamide as a migraine preventative and Maxalt-MLT 10 mg as a rescue medication as well as ordering some labs, an MRI and an MRA. All tests came back normal. The Maxalt worked well when I got the migraines but insurance wasn't too happy with it so we had to switch. She then put me on Relpax which didn't work at all.
1402028 tn?1280858335 s have been performed. The seizure medication I was on was called Zonisamide...and it made all of my symptoms worse. I was taken off of that and put on Amitripylene, which I am currently on. It doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot but the doctor wants me to try it for 3 months and I am on month 2. My sleep pattern is messed up badly now as well; I don't know if it is from the medicines, or just lack of exercise since I'm stuck indoors so much now. Thank you for the help.
1512520 tn?1290258130 How many people are taking Topamax Vs the Generic? I am taking the GENERIC and I'm dealing with CONSTANT running and dripping of my sinuses! The medicine I was on prior was horrible. It was 6months of tests, withdrawals, and it took 3months to get it out of my system. Now, I finally found a medicine that seems to control the spells... It would be nice if I DIDN'T have a runny nose. Could it be the Generic?
Avatar f tn ll give you my opinion and input. Personally, I take Topamax for bingeing and purging and it really, really helps me. However, I would not recommend it if you have a urges to restrict, or have struggled with restricting or anorexia in the past. Also, I can really relate to where you are right now with everything. I've been there, and I feel for you. It's a rough place to be. Your anxiety seems to be pretty high. Have you ever taken anything for anxiety that has helped you?

Avatar f tn of effexor and i couldnt sleep at nite so my doctor started me on 25 mg. of zonisamide and took me off effexor.I am having horrible side effects but dont know which med. is causing it.I have been crying in the mornings, having a constant stomach ache and my head feels very confused almost to the point of disillusion. Which med. is causing this?Should my doctor have me on antiseisure meds for depression?
Avatar f tn I have suffered from migraines since my late 20's. I am now 49. I have tried any and every migrained med, some work, some don't. My doctor has just suggested topamax. Has anyone taken this? Does it work? I am also hypothyroid and take 200mcg of synthroid, will there be issues taking these two meds together? I read that one of the side effects of topamax is weight loss. This I wouldnt mind as Ive put on weight due to my hypothyroid. But, the biggest thing would not have these headaches.
