It seemed the Lyrica and Effexor combined worked for the pain, I went to a neurologist and he took me off the Lyrica, which made me gain 60lbs! lol... and put me on Zonisamide. It has been great for my pain. But now that aI have been on it awhile I am feeling sick to my stomach every morning and my head feels fuzzy.
I asked if I could get off the Effexor as it was raising my blood sugar levels, I am a diabetic & Cymbalta and Effexor raises my blood sugars).

Does anyone think the mgs of Zonisamide are to high for being on it for the first time? It has been since 3/24 when she had the 4 seizures, and hasn't had any since she has been on the medicine, but won't eat at all on her own, and when she does it is only a bite or two and then gets sick again.
Please help if you can.
t find a workable dosage of phenobartibal, you might want to ask your vet about either Dilantin, Valium, potassium bromide, felbamate, or a different type of anti-seizure medicine that can be used in conjunction with potassium bromide and/or phenobarbital together called Zonisamide. Zonisamide is totally unrelated to any of the other anticonvulsants, but, like Keppra, the full extent of its side effects is not yet known so to some vets, it is somewhat controversial to prescribe it.
I have a 1 year 4 month old German Shepherd named Melo who's been having seizures since he was 1. I just wanted to share my experience because I know its comforting to hear stories of other people that are going through what you're going through, makes you feel less hopeless. Melo had 4 seizures in the span of 2 hours, he's taking 300mg of Zonisamide every 12 hours but before take refill arrived he had ran out and that's when the seizures happened.
They will last between 2 to 8 weeks, so you may need to be prepared for some odd behaviour for a while. The drunk-like state needs careful supervision, particularly on the stairs, as her coordination is severely impaired and will be so for a while. Once the "therapeutic level" of phenobarbital has been found (it's a bit trial and error), the side effects should start to dissipate.
Of course, the question is why did the seizures begin?
I have been informed I had Acid Reflux. I take Nexium for it. I also have Asthma and Epilepsy to which I take Lamictal, Zonisamide, Albuterol(when needed-which is quite rare), Claritan, and Singular. Now on another site I spotted an area that stated certain OTC meds can cause problems with Gerd.

Hello I have been in sounds like the same pain as your daughter for over 20 years. I have a blockage in the boney tissue in the lower part of my brain. So have had quite a lot of shunts placed in my ventricules 8 years ago I had to have the shunt placed in my heart ever since I have felt more pain than anyone person should. Most of the meds the doctors have given to me haven't helped at all. I'm sure that she has had cat scans to look for abnormalities in her brain.
His latest blood test was 26 for pheno. We increased his pheno to the current does previously stated about 1 month ago.
Over the weekend, he had cluster seizures. We didn't take him to the vet immediately since the other times, we've given him 1 gr of pheno after and within a day, he gets better. This time his seizures were at night at least 3-4 times. We brought him to the emergency room Sunday afternoon where they administered valium.
I am 5 months post birth and my auras have taken a turn for the worst in last five weeks. I see all sorts of visual disturbances and they never go away. Now I have double vision mixed with seeing objects in the wrong spots, mixed with faces totally disappearing....especially at a close angle. In addition to all the spots now I have little lights everywhere and at night it looks like a static TV although sometimes with an interesting pattern. It is at this point interfereing with my life.
Hi there, I have been on Effexor XR 300mg for a number of years plus Avanza at night. These meds have been very effective until the last few months when I've slipped a little. I am morbidly obese and that has been getting to me as well. My doctor has now taken me off the Avanza at night and prescribed 15mg Reductil to take with the Effexor in an effort to perk me up a bit and help with the weight.
