Zonegran weight loss medication

Common Questions and Answers about Zonegran weight loss medication

zonegran

Avatar f tn I too took Tegretol and gained weight (35 lbs in 3 wks). I thought I would never lose it but after my body became used to the drug, this took about 6 months, I was able to lose the weight quit quickly with an easy walking plan. It only took about about a month. In the end it was the only medication that would stop 4 of my 11 seizures so in my opinion --the wait was worth it.
Avatar f tn As halbashes said, it would be important to avoid anti-epileptic drugs that sometimes have the side-effect of weight loss or loss of appetite. There are others that tend to cause weight gain, though, such as Depakote (which is also used to prevent migraine headaches). A good neurologist should be able to choose the right drug with the right side effect profile. Obviously, weight gain and/or increased appetite would be desirable.
Avatar f tn So far, he has diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia, Peripheral Neuropathy, Mild spinal stenosis, and idiopathic chronic pain syndrome. Every medication we have tried starts out helping and within weeks stops working. He says I am building up "tolerances" to the meds really fast and he cannot explain it. I am so very tired of the pain, numbness, burning, cramping, et al. Any ideas? Since October I have tried Lortab (3 strengths), gabapentin, Lyrica, Ultram, Relafen, Zonegran, and Trileptal.
Avatar n tn There are even some meds, especially antidepressants, that cause weight loss in some and weight gain in others. I gained weight on most mood stabilizers. The biggest culprits for me were Depakote, Remeron- an antidepressant, and Zyprexa- an antipsychotic. Now I take Lithobid, which is a slow release lithium. It tends to not cause as many side effects as regular Lithium. I am also on Seroquel. I was finally able to lose all of the weight I gained.
Avatar f tn But due to the side effects of that like the weight control issuess, liver, and birth defects it can cause I want to go off but nervous as I have not had a seizure in more then a decade now and hesitant to chance it, just don't like the side effects of depakote!!!!
Avatar n tn I recently consulted with a weight loss doctor who prescribed a sensible diet (moderately low carb) and the medication Adipex. That combination was magic for me. The diet resulted in rapid weight loss, and the prescribed medication made it easier for me to follow the diet. I did have to follow up often with my physician, but the results are worth it!
1172209 tn?1263427216 I would say to make sure you are getting some exercise, especially if you were on a healthy diet before. My psychologist told me that sometimes when you stabalize and you're not being manic as often, sometimes you don't realize that you're not doing as much physically as before (if you were one of those get up and go mania people.) So you do not realize that not only are you on a medication that can cause weight gain, but you're also not burning as many calories as you were.
Avatar n tn hi I need help losing weight I do not know what weight loss pill is the best please help me plese
Avatar f tn I have had trouble maintaining my weight since menopause. I lose weight very easily now. Over the last couple of years I have had a CT, MRI, and all sorts of bloodwork. My doctor is convinced it is just one of those things. Said she has a handful of patients that have the same thing after menopause. I take effexor for hot flashes, cholesterol medication and advair. I can't imagine any of them making me lose weight so easily. I was never heavy, but watched what I ate.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I went off the Zonegran because my hair was falling out and my tachycardia spells stopped. At least I hope so. I also think my meds were causing a lot of my anxiety. I don't have this anxiety attacks since stopping seizure medication. I take butterbur for my headaches and this is suppose to increase the oxygenated blood to the brain. I feel so much better these days.
Avatar m tn I DO NOT recommend messing with your dosage but I would definately make sure my dosage is right in oder to get on the right track for weight loss.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Does anyone know of any medication for complex seizures (L-temporal lobe) that won't make you feel like a zombie? I take Zonegran 200mg and I have absolutely no energy. I'm typically very active and moving all the time. I don't even have the energy to grocery shop or cook anymore. This is ridiculous! I also take Diamox, not sure if this has any affect on my energy level. Recently had a CBC done, and it came back normal. I just started these meds 4 months ago.
Avatar n tn I have yet to read anything positive it sounds horrible. Weight gain, hot flashes, hair loss, etc. Is this what I have to look forward to or does this drug actually work in a positive manner on some people?
Avatar n tn I'm not sure what you're asking us. Has the weight loss left you at an unhealthy weight for your height and build? If so, you need to see your doctor immediately. If you are happy about the weight loss and find it beneficial to your health, consider that a very nice side effect. Some ADs DO affect our weight, but usually not to extremes. You are not losing weight at a dangerous rate. 4.5lbs a month is a safe and healthy rate.
10822330 tn?1413073760 If you have a normal BMI, the weight loss you're reporting corresponds to people fasting on water only, i.e. getting no food whatsoever. As others said, this is a serious matter and you should discuss it with your Dr asap.
Avatar f tn I have back problems and the extra weight was brutal. Soon as as switched to Topamax (which has weight loss side effects) I lost the extra weight plus. Seizure meds are tough. They all have very extreme side effects. I've been on 4 different ones and I found that over time my body would get used of the side effects. Depakote was definately one of the better ones for me. Best of luck to you and your son.
8186495 tn?1396915293 Can MS be contributing to lack of weight loss?
Avatar f tn At first I was on 0,150mg for 18 years and did not have problems with weight or fatigue. In 1996, my doctor said that the tests were more refined and I was taking too much synthroid. It was lowered to 0,112mg. I started gaining weight immediately, losing hair and could not focus at all. It was raised to 0.125mg and has remained at that dose even though my tsh is a little suppressed.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I have never actually read anything about eliminating symptoms and weight loss. In my opinion, I think the activity and a healthy diet may possibly minimize the symptoms and "flare-ups." Like you said, it can't hurt to give it a try. I would definitely try to avoid the surgery if you can.
Avatar f tn Tothe extent that her eating problems are exacerbated by the appetit suppression that usually occurs secondary to use of psychostimulant, her condition invites the question of whether the medication should be discontinued. In addition, though, her weight is below the 5th percentile for her age, and her eating behavior may be symptomatic of a medical condition that has not been diagnosed. Have you had her evaluated by a pediatric gastroenterologist and/or pediatric endocrinologist?
Avatar f tn He is now able to start learning, and he came off of all medication except for 75 mg of zonegran. He was on 1400mg a day. It has made a huge difference. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn It depends on the medication. Metformin, the most commonly prescribed type 2 medication does help with weight loss. But mostly you need to cut carbs (good for blood sugar management anyway), reduce fat and increase exercise. Also make sure your thyroid is stable as that of course affects weight as well. Congratulations on your A1C!
