Common Questions and Answers about Zonegran weight loss drugs

zonegran

Avatar f tn So, it is basically hit and trial. Individuals react differently to drugs, some get pain relief with particular drugs while others doesn’t, and this depends upon how that drug is getting metabolized in their bodies. Please keep on trying different **** tails of drugs till you find the right match!
Avatar f tn Has anyone had a problem with a seizure medicine causing irreversible weight gain? My daughter was a thin child, who took Tegretol for seizures, and gained a large amount of weight in a short time. We stopped the medication, but the weight did not reduce.
Avatar f tn As halbashes said, it would be important to avoid anti-epileptic drugs that sometimes have the side-effect of weight loss or loss of appetite. There are others that tend to cause weight gain, though, such as Depakote (which is also used to prevent migraine headaches). A good neurologist should be able to choose the right drug with the right side effect profile. Obviously, weight gain and/or increased appetite would be desirable.
Avatar f tn Anyone else here have major sensitivity to all the anti epileptic drugs? I have been on so many of them, and the side effects are worse than the seizures. For example, the keppra I just got off of messed with my hormones, heart rate and blood pressure. I found out by taking it, that I have a mild case of neurally mediated syncope which the keppra elevated to the point where i had to be hospitalized. It also caused major weakness and fatigue to the point where I couldnt work.
Avatar n tn what is amaigrissante? how dose it help weight loss and what are its side effects?
1669446 tn?1303551937 That is a pretty quick weight loss from Feb 20th to now. That alone can be very hard on your body......How is your appetite?
1549189 tn?1293935668 I would research other methods of weight loss as opposed to going into drugs, where the side effects will eventually wear off anyway. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn Hello, I very much need an answer because my doctor will not give me a straight answer. I'm currently on Lamictal (800mg a day) and Zonegran (200mg a day) and I'm a college student so I tend to drink. I've never had a seizure while consuming alcohol but I'm terrified when doing so. So heres my question... When I drink (beer) with my meds, will it bring on a seizure? or just enhance the side effects? Please I very much need to know asap! Maybe even stories would helpl too.
Avatar m tn Well, it seems like there is no other cause than genes to this (probably), but since I really dont like being this underweight, are there any drugs that could help me gain weight (in other words eat more/ slow metabolism). Like some steroids or something? Again, I have tried the "eat more" thing, but it doesnt seem to work very well. At first I do gain weight, but I get pretty bad diarrhea ETC. from eating too much.
Avatar n tn There are even some meds, especially antidepressants, that cause weight loss in some and weight gain in others. I gained weight on most mood stabilizers. The biggest culprits for me were Depakote, Remeron- an antidepressant, and Zyprexa- an antipsychotic. Now I take Lithobid, which is a slow release lithium. It tends to not cause as many side effects as regular Lithium. I am also on Seroquel. I was finally able to lose all of the weight I gained.
Avatar m tn Would any of these diseases contribute to sudden weight loss? I have been close/over 350 lbs for years, but in the last several months I have dropped a significant amount of weight. I'm down to 287. (20 lbs in the last four weeks alone.) I wish I could say it's because I'm exercising or eating right... but I'm not. I've made no change to physical activity or diet. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn i'm sure we all know that 10 pounds in a month is a hard task. that does not mean that it is un doable. if you eat 1,300-1,500 calories a day of fruit and veggies, and are doing cardio 5X a week along with strength training 4X a week you could probably reach your goal..
1303966 tn?1296740010 I have never actually read anything about eliminating symptoms and weight loss. In my opinion, I think the activity and a healthy diet may possibly minimize the symptoms and "flare-ups." Like you said, it can't hurt to give it a try. I would definitely try to avoid the surgery if you can.
Avatar n tn I have PCOS too and I have been put on Metformin which helps with weight loss. People with PCOS have a higher insulin levels which decreases your female hormones and increases the male hormones which cause the hair growth and scattered periods. These are things that you know about but with increased insulin levels your body does not process the food correctly and tends to hold onto it which is why I gained weight! Metformin is for glucose patients and that is why it helps PCOS patients.
Avatar f tn t think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.
Avatar n tn I'm on week 31 of tx. The HepC is no longer active and I only have 17 weeks remaining on the program. The results are very positive. However, I still suffer from all the major side effects and had to go on leave to try and just focus on my health. The most important one to me has been my weight loss. Since the beginning, 03/09, I've lost 60 lbs and am still loosing. My appetite has been little to none, but I am attempting to change that.
Avatar f tn Hi there, Concerta is quite well known to cause weight loss, common complaints of appetite being suppressed, not being hungry, feeling full etc occur in all ages and gender. Significant weight loss is probably one of the more common reasons for a change in medication, so i would definitely recommend discussing your weight loss concerns with your prescribing dr.
Avatar f tn Hi, Weight loss is deu to the shrinkage of fat cells and no, technically chemotherapy drugs cannot be stored in fat cells and released later. what is in the fat cells is only fat.You weight loss issues could be due to entirely different reasons and so could your forgetfulness. You may have to go to a neurologist for athorough evaluation to root out the cause for this.
Avatar f tn my granddaughter has recently undergone brain surgery at UCLA Medical in Los Angeles. She had seizures for six years and was not controlled by many medicines we tried. Her diagnosis cortical dysplasia. She is now seizure free, however, we were told that she probably will never get off medication. We were sent to San Francisco because they have a Magnetoencephalogram (MEG) that enabled the neurologists to pinpoint the exact site for surgery. Good luck...
Avatar f tn The majority do lose weight but some people just don't. Doesn't matter what brand of interferon or ribavirin because antiviral therapy as a whole seems to diminish the appetite regardless. In my case I consumed smaller portions because I couldn't get down what I had been accustomed to eating but I ate whatever I wanted to and still lost weight. Some people stay the same or actually gain weight on treatment which is hard for me to understand but it happens.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Has anyone with Chiari had success with Diamox? I'm currently on Zonegran for L-temperal lobe seizures, but the constant pressure and full feeling in my ears and mouth is driving me crazy. Told possible Meniers by ENT, but my Neuro thinks it's the Chiari. She wants to try Diamox, but wants to clear it with my Chiari specialist because of the Zonegran and risk of kidney problems (dehydration).
541953 tn?1262586226 I work in a hospital where I see tons of people who come in with prescription drug addictions and the internet is one of the first places they can go to now when their docs will no longer fill RXs. From vicodin, sleeping pills, Viagra, tylenol #3, oxycotin, weight loss pills, steroids, it's all readily available for anyone. I've done some research online for the hospital and found out that it's very easy to get.
